Hybrid protocol for wireless EH network over weibull fading channel: performance analysis

No full text
In this paper, the hybrid TSR-PSR protocol for wireless energy harvesting (EH) relaying network over the Weibull fading channel is investigated. The system network is working in half-duplex (HD) mode. For evaluating the system performance, the closed-form and integral-form expressions of the outage probability (OP) are investigated and derived. After that, numerical results convinced that our derived analytical results are the same with the simulation results by using Monte Carlo simulation. This paper provides a novel recommendation for the wireless EH relaying network

Building Core Competencies in a Turbulent Environment: An Exploratory Study of Firm Resources and Capabilities in Chinese Transitional Economy

No full text
The impact of firm resources and capabilities on performance among Chinese enterprises has been a subject of anecdotal speculation due to its significant implications for organizational researchers as well as practitioners. Yet empirical evidence has been very limited. In this research, set in the People’s Republic of China, we examine firm resources and capabilities and their impact on firm performance among Chinese enterprises. Using large sample of 12,047 Chinese firms from 1991 to 1992, we found that most of the firm specific resources and capabilities examined in this study have a positive impact on performance. We discussed the implications for organizational researchers, policy makers, and managers, and proposed directions for future research.economic transition, firm strategy, resources and capabilities

On the design of an energy-harvesting noise-sensing WSN mote

No full text
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) could potentially help in the measurement and monitoring of noise levels, an important step in mitigating and fighting noise pollution. Unfortunately, the high energy required by the noise measurement process and the reliance of sensor motes on batteries make the management of noise-sensing WSNs cumbersome. Giving motes energy harvesting (EH) capabilities could alleviate such a problem, and several EH-WSNs have already been demonstrated. Nevertheless, the high-frequency nature of the data required to measure noise places significant additional challenges to the design of EH-WSNs. In this paper, we present a design and prototype for a mote extension which enables the mote to detect noise levels while being powered by energy harvesting. The noise level detection carried out by the system relies primarily on the concept of peak detection. Results of performance testing are presented. Aside from the hardware design and prototype, we also discuss methods of assigning charge times for application scenarios where there are multiple pulse loads. We also propose a new opportunistic method for charge time determination. Experiments demonstrate that the new method could improve analytically-derived duty cycles by at least 350%

Coverage Probability of EH-enabled LoRa networks - A Deep Learning Approach

No full text
The performance of energy harvesting (EH)-enabled long-range (LoRa) networks is analyzed in this work. Specifically, we employ deep learning (DL) to estimate the coverage probability (Pcov) of the considered networks. Our study incorporates a general fading distribution, specifically the Nakagami-m distribution, and utilizes tools from stochastic geometry (SG) to model the spatial distributions of all nodes and end-devices (EDs) with EH capability. The DL approach is employed to overcome the limitations of model-based methods that can only evaluate the Pcov under simplified network conditions. Therefore, we propose a deep neural network (DNN) that estimates the Pcov with high accuracy compared to the ground truth values. Additionally, we demonstrate that DL significantly outperforms the Monte Carlo simulation approach in terms of resource consumption, including time and memory

“Vi que era mujer y tan sujeta a pasiones y flaquezas como yo”: The correspondence between Teresa of Ávila and Luisa de la Cerda The seven letters, that, as far as we know, Teresa of Ávila sent to Luisa de la Cerda, immerse us in the frenetic pace of life of the Carmelite Mother around the year 1568, when, thanks to the help of the Toledan noblewoman, she founded her second convent in Malagón Ciudad Real. Teresa’s anxiety over her autobiography arriving to Juan of Ávila is one of the main subjects of the letters: through this we can capture the mental state in which Teresa of Jesus lived, tormented by doubts about her spiritual raptures. Besides, as the letters are addressed to a feminine speaker, we can observe how Teresa of Ávila distanced herself from the coldness and formality of the theological and masculine universe and developed a new “feminine poetic,” that will later on dominate her main spiritual works.“Vi que era mujer y tan sujeta a pasiones y flaquezas como yo”: The correspondence between Teresa of Ávila and Luisa de la Cerda The seven letters, that, as far as we know, Teresa of Ávila sent to Luisa de la Cerda, immerse us in the frenetic pace of life of the Carmelite Mother around the year 1568, when, thanks to the help of the Toledan noblewoman, she founded her second convent in Malagón Ciudad Real. Mechanical properties and fracture analysis of additively manufactured EH 36 steel parts by laser engineered net shaping process

No full text
Metal additive manufacturing (AM) technologies have attracted a lot of interests from many industrial sectors due to its unlimited capability of producing complex geometries. Metal parts with complex shapes at large scales are highly demanded in marine and offshore (M&O) industries. The aim of this paper is to ascertain the feasibility of Additive Manufacturing (to be more specific Laser Engineered Net Shaping) of ASTM A131 EH 36 steel. After doing mechanical testing for LENS processed ASTM A131 EH 36 samples, the LENS processed samples with horizontal build direction have much better mechanical properties comparing with conventionally made parts, however samples with vertical build direction or 45 degree vertical build directions have properties comparable or lower than parts made of conventional methods due to build defects.NRF (Natl Research Foundation, S’pore)Published versio

No full text
The author; demonstrate an all-optical clock recovery scheme from non-return-to-zero format data, with an asymmetric Mach-Zehnder interferometer and a mode-locked Er-doped fibre laser. Since this scheme consists of an all-fibre device, the clock recovery bandwidth can extend to the terahertz region. Such all-optical clock recovery techniques will find application in ultra-high speed all-optical communication systems
