ADHD/CD-NET: automated EEG-based characterization of ADHD and CD using explainable deep neural network technique
In this study, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), a childhood neurodevelopmental disorder, is being studied alongside its comorbidity, conduct disorder (CD), a behavioral disorder. Because ADHD and CD share commonalities, distinguishing them is difficult, thus increasing the risk of misdiagnosis. It is crucial that these two conditions are not mistakenly identified as the same because the treatment plan varies depending on whether the patient has CD or ADHD. Hence, this study proposes an electroencephalogram (EEG)-based deep learning system known as ADHD/CD-NET that is capable of objectively distinguishing ADHD, ADHD + CD, and CD. The 12-channel EEG signals were first segmented and converted into channel-wise continuous wavelet transform (CWT) correlation matrices. The resulting matrices were then used to train the convolutional neural network (CNN) model, and the model’s performance was evaluated using 10-fold cross-validation. Gradient-weighted class activation mapping (Grad-CAM) was also used to provide explanations for the prediction result made by the ‘black box’ CNN model. Internal private dataset (45 ADHD, 62 ADHD + CD and 16 CD) and external public dataset (61 ADHD and 60 healthy controls) were used to evaluate ADHD/CD-NET. As a result, ADHD/CD-NET achieved classification accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and precision of 93.70%, 90.83%, 95.35% and 91.85% for the internal evaluation, and 98.19%, 98.36%, 98.03% and 98.06% for the external evaluation. Grad-CAM also identified significant channels that contributed to the diagnosis outcome. Therefore, ADHD/CD-NET can perform temporal localization and choose significant EEG channels for diagnosis, thus providing objective analysis for mental health professionals and clinicians to consider when making a diagnosis
Integrating the SIME method with standard time domain simulation software to search for transient stability limits
The single machine infinite bus equivalent (SIME) method provides a means of estimating transient stability margins and for accelerating the search for transient stability limits for multi-machine power systems. This paper presents the SIME algorithm, with particular focus on how it may be integrated with a standard time domain simulation program to search for stability limits. Novel enhancements aimed at increasing the robustness of the SIME algorithm are proposed. The enhanced algorithm is applied to search for the critical clearing time (CCT). Diperlukan sebuah media yang efektif untuk Jay Tan Photography. Maka perancangan yang akan dibuat adalah sebuah katalog cetak dan digital yang mudah dibawa. Strategi ini ditempuh dengan tujuan agar mampu menarik target audience hingga tercapai target market yang sesuai. Metodologi Perancangan. Model parancangan yang digunakan adalah model prosedural, yaitu bersifat deskriptif. Adapun proses perancangan katalog ini tersusun dalam pencarian data dengan melakukan observasi dan wawancara. Konsep Desain. Produk media pendukung promosi yang dihasilkan adalah katalog cetak dan digital dalam bentuk CD interaktif yang dibuat dengan software pendukung yaitu Adobe Photoshop, dan macromedia flash CS3. Kesimpulan. Berdasarkan analisis yang terkumpul, penulis mempertimbangkan, menentukan dan mengkonsep media pendukung promosi berupa katalog cetak dan CD interaktif berisi foto-foto pilihan dari Jayadi Sugito, ST. Media pendukung ini diharapkan mampu menarik minat target market untuk memakai jasa fotografi terutama untuk pre-wedding, candid wedding, candid and documentation wedding.
Portfolio of recorded performances and exegesis: Messiaen’s musical language for the jazz pianist - an exploration through performance.
Moving beyond Gunther Schuller’s Third Stream amalgamation of classical and jazz, this study explores whether the musical language of Olivier Messiaen can make a valid contribution to jazz piano performance. Initially, my project sought to answer such questions as: What elements of the musical language of Messiaen already exist in the jazz vocabulary? Am I able to extend this further? What are the timbral structures and pianistic effects within Messiaen’s musical language? What will be the most effective application of Messiaen’s musical language to jazz piano performance? Endeavouring to answer the final question led me to consider such aspects as whether the project should be limited to quoting Messiaen motifs, arranging Messiaen melodies, replacing jazz harmonic structures on standards with examples from Messiaen’s musical language or whether it would be better to approach the research conceptually. The work of Hubert Nuss provided encouraging reassurance that this was not an impossible task. In order to articulate this conception, the initial challenge was to decide how the classical and jazz worlds might meet in a ‘Messiaen’ technique. The approach adopted was similar to that used for undergraduate jazz study, namely, immersion in the piano scores and recordings of Messiaen’s music as well as by live performances. This was followed by the development and assessment of a contrived approach when specific techniques, such as tonal colourings or harmonic structures, were developed through prepared exercises and consciously included in my performance. It was then compared with an intuitive approach when no such precise parameters were established. This submission consists of CD recordings of two public recitals and an exegesis. It documents the development of this Messiaen technique and discusses its application in my performances. Implementation of the enhanced binary-SIME method for finding transient stability limits with PSS/E
The Enhanced Binary-Single Machine Infinite bus Equivalent (Binary-SIME) method is an enhancement of the SIME method. It provides a robust and flexible approach to searching for the transient stability limits (TSLs) in a fully detailed model of a multi-machine power system. This paper describes the modular implementation of the Binary-SIME method with the PSS/Etrade time domain simulation package. Extension to incorporate alternative search approaches is facilitated by the modular architecture. The Binary-SIME search implementation is applied to the IEEE simplified model of the Australian power system to search for power transfer limits (PTLs) and critical clearing times (CCTs). Optimizing the thermoelectric performance of In-Cd codoped SnTe by introducing Sn vacancies
SnTe has been known as a unique thermoelectric material to achieve the synergy of a resonant level and band convergence, originating from its characteristic band structure. In this work, we report an optimization of the two kinds of band engineering in In-Cd codoped SnTe. Owing to the complementary and competitive effects of the resonant level and band convergence, the location of the Fermi level is critical to the optimization. We show that the highest power factor and thermoelectric figure of merit ZT are reached by introducing Sn vacancies, rather than reducing Sn vacancies as normally done in SnTe. The peak ZT similar to 1.1 appears at 850 K, while an overall enhanced ZT(ave) of 0.54 between 300 and 850 K and an estimated conversion efficiency of 9% are obtained.
