Lunário Perpétuo almanac: informational-documentary circulation and permanence in popular culture in Brazil
Lunário Perpétuo is an almanac produced at the end of the 16th century by the Spaniard Jerónimo Cortés. Widely reprinted, it circulated throughout Spain, Portugal and Brazil, where it became popular in the Northeast, influencing scholars, folklorists, artists and popular culture for centuries. It is part of the tradition of popular almanacs, bringing together diverse knowledge and discourses. It served as a popular encyclopedia for constant and timeless consultation, as well as a manual on practical and existential issues for readers from diverse social, cultural and historical backgrounds. The research aims to understand the informational, cultural, pedagogical, material and symbolic circulation of the Lunário Perpétuo as a document, cultural object and infocommunicational device, as well as the ways in which it remains in Brazilian popular culture. Methodologically, it began with a bibliographic and documentary research that identified 176 editions published between 1594 and 2023. Then, a documentary corpus of four Portuguese editions, published in 1757, 1897, 1910 and 2004, was established in order to carry out an analytical reading based on the thematic analysis method. The categories used were: a) structure and variation between editions; b) main contents covered; and c) actors involved in its production, circulation and reading. Through bibliographic and documentary research, the analysis was expanded to delve into the circulation, readings, retellings and appropriations of the Lunário in Brazilian artistic and cultural manifestations. The results highlight a variety of informational and pedagogical subjects, as well as discourses and actors from science, medicine, religion, astrology, arts and popular knowledge. Its main contents are related to time, astronomy, astrology, meteorology, agriculture, health, home, religion and entertainment. Although there is a wide structural and thematic variation between the editions, a recurring structure can be observed that gives the work its identity. Through the reading marks in the analyzed copies, as well as their retellings in literature, music and carnival, readers from erudite culture and popular culture were identified who appropriated the Lunário and replicated it over time, in addition to editors, translators, censors and authors who modified the work in its various editions. It is concluded that the Lunário Perpétuo has maintained its permanence for centuries through its re-editions, updates and, above all, through its readings, retellings and appropriations in the artistic and cultural fields, making it a document that remains alive in Brazilian culture and collective memory.

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
Lunário Perpétuo almanac: permanence and retellings in popular culture
“Lunário Perpétuo” is an almanac produced at the 16th century by the Spaniard Jerónimo Cortés (ca. 1560-ca. 1615). Widely reprinted, it circulated throughout Spain, Portugal and Brazil, where it became popular, influencing scholars, folklorists, artists and popular culture for centuries. It is part of the tradition of popular almanacs, containing knowledge and wisdom related to various topics, such as astrology, meteorology, astronomy, calendars, health, religion, agriculture, proverbs and well-being advice. The objective is to understand the ways in which Lunário has achieved documentary and informational permanence in Brazilian culture through its retellings and appropriations by different actors. Conceptually, almanacs are studied as documents, cultural objects and infocommunicational devices of written popular culture. Methodologically, two procedures are carried out: a) thematic analysis of a corpus of copies of Lunário, in order to identify its structure and recurring themes; b) analysis of its retellings by the Unidos do Porto da Pedra Samba School at the Rio de Janeiro Carnival, whose 2024 theme was “Lunário Perpétuo: the prophetic of popular knowledge”. The results present elements that point to a way of being of Lunário, which has sustained its retellings by writers and artists such as Ariano Suassuna and Antonio Nóbrega and its inspiration for popular artists through the sense of celebration, symbol of strength and resistance of popular culture. Concludes that Lunário is a document and infocommunicational device that continues to be present in the collective imagination and in Brazilian popular culture, and highlights the lasting relevance of written popular communication.“Lunário Perpétuo” é um almanaque produzido no século XVI pelo espanhol Jerónimo Cortés (ca. 1560-ca. 1615).
The work of cataloging is presented through the Tainacan system of historical documents related to reading, books, press and libraries in Goiás, Goiânia, Brazil contributing to the preservation and availability of information to researchers who study the subject. The purpose of this work was to analyze the materials of the collection in order to identify those that deal with the subject of reading, books, press and libraries of the state of Goiás, which are part of the oldest period of the document, 1861, by the end of the year and then catalog the selected documents in the Tainacan system.
The materials were donated to the course of Librarianship by Bento Alves Araújo Jaime Fleury Curado and deal in good part of documents related to the subject described above. The historical documents were rescued and stored by Benedict's relatives on the occasion of the transfer of the capital of Goiás, Goiás, Goiás, Brazil to Goiânia in 1937, after the dismissal of the same by public servants vilaboenses. Bento later added to the collection newspapers and clippings related to culture, reading, literature, the press and libraries in Goiás and Brazil. The collection is digitalized by trainees in previous projects and consists of 1071 materials, with dates ranging from the year 1861 to 2016.
It is not the cataloging of all documents without distinction. The proposal was to catalog and make available in the system subjects related to reading in the State of Goiás, covering the press, education, libraries (among which the Goiano Literary Cabinet stands out), and whose date of origin or publication are between the years of 1861 and 1989
