A former union member testimony and commitment The history of French farmers' unions since thirty years is related by Bernard LAMBERT (1931-1984), a long-time trade unionist, founder member of the union « Paysans travailleurs » and author of the book entitled Les paysans dans la lutte des classes (1970). Bernard LAMBERT's talk to a seminar held in Paris on May 4th 1981 at the EHESS, reveals, through debates put back in their context, his avant-garde ideas, his concern for international problems and his will to anticipate the future

Re-envisioning Cyprus
Exhibition catalogue / edited volumeArtists and academics join forces in a common effort to “re-envision” Cyprus. The result is anedited volume and a photography & multimedia exhibition.
The authors of “Re-envisioning Cyprus” come from different disciplines – such asanthropology, social sciences, art history, literature, cultural theory and visual arts. They usevarious methods – some excavate past images, and some produce or comment on newones. They exploit all kinds of materials – such as press, studio or vernacular photos, statues, landmarks, urban constructions and religious spaces. What united them is first their wish tosee Cyprus with their own eyes and with their own minds, rather than through officialisinglenses, or narratives. Second, they are rather interested in photography, and how it can helpour conceptual understanding of the island.
The images each author has selected or produced will be included in the accompaniedexhibition. The exhibition will feature the work of visual artists from Cyprus and abroad andwill be opened by the Minister of Education and Culture, Mr. Andreas Demetriou onWednesday, December 8th at 8pm.
Participating Authors and Artists: Loucas Antoniou, Melita Couta, Johanna Diehl, AnandanaKapur, Phanos Kyriacou, Orestis Lambrou, Chrystalleni Loizidou, Peter Loizos, MiriamPaeslack, Haris Pellapaisiotis, Nicos Phillipou, Sondra Sainsbury, Stefanos Stefanides,Theopisti Stylianou-Lambert, Constantinos Taliotis, Demetris Taliotis and Ellene Tsangarides.
The exhibition is organized by the University of Nicosia (organizer) and the Cyprus Universityof Technology (partner) and is part of the celebration of the 50th year anniversary of Cyprus. The book is published by the University of Nicosia Press and will be available at theexhibition opening.

Youth incarceration: A look behind locked doors
Douglas College and the New Westminster Museum collaborated to host the Tick-Talk: Crime and Consequences Student Conference, which featured criminology students' presentations on a variety of crime, justice, and social issues. Adopting a fast-paced presentation format, students raised key issues and challenges, described personal experiences, and disseminated unique ideas in a public forum. Presentation topics included the right to legal representation, the over-representation of Indigenous peoples in Canada’s criminal justice system, youth justice policy, and connections between mental health and criminal justice. The conference also included several discussion sessions that generated valuable dialogue among students, academics, practitioners, and members of the public. --- Rebecca Lambert presented on youth incarceration and the reality for troubled youth within Canada's youth criminal justice system. Lambert argued that incarcerated youth are not being adequately prepared for reintegration, and called for appropriate disciplinary measures, transition and reintegration programs, and further resources to help incarcerated youth develop personally and professionally. Not peer reviewe
Lambert, Hendricks & Ross: American ventriloquism
It has been fifty-one years since the last Lambert, Hendricks & Ross studio recording. Since then Dave Lambert was tragically killed on the Connecticut Turnpike, Jon Hendricks has become a University of Toledo professor, and Annie Ross is still performing frequently worldwide. Few jazz vocalists are accepted into the scholastic canon. Fewer are filed in the annals of music history. But, if any vocalists should be regarded important to the story of jazz music it is LHR. Their impact on the art of vocalese has yet to be fully felt. In exploring the motivation behind the group’s dense, meticulous, trailblazing recordings, this study attempts to be a supplement for what was too much for liner notes in the late 50’s and 60’s, while simultaneously giving a brief encompassing historical outline. By examining the social and musical impact of Lambert Hendricks & Ross, this study attempts to further legitimate the art of jazz vocals and vocalese.M.A.Includes bibliographical referencesIncludes vitaby Bilal Salaa
Using quantitative data
This is an Accepted Manuscript of a book chapter published by Routledge/CRC Press in Practical research methods in education : an early researcher's critical guide on 26 February 2019, available online: https://www.routledge.com/Practical-Research-Methods-in-Education-An-Early-Researchers-Critical/Lambert/p/book/9780815393566The intention of this chapter is to demystify quantitative research and give readers clear, straightforward information about collecting and analysing quantitative data. It does this by clarifying key concepts and terms and illustrating these with examples taken from the author’s own research and other investigations. The chapter first explains the concepts of independent, dependent and other variables and why controlling them is important. Three types of quantitative design are then considered: experiments, quasi-experiments and non-experiments, together with notions of internal and external validity. The purposes and limitations of randomized control trials (RCTs) are examined, again with critical reference to real research. In discussing data analysis, readers are introduced to important concepts, including descriptive statistics, central tendency and standard deviation, as well as inferential statistics, statistical significance, effect size, correlation and factor analysis. To conclude, the author recommends that improving the understanding of quantitative data can help all researchers to assess quantitative investigations more critically and to integrate use into their own research projects
napari/napari: 0.3.4
napari 0.3.4
We're happy to announce the release of napari 0.3.4!
napari is a fast, interactive, multi-dimensional image viewer for Python.
It's designed for browsing, annotating, and analyzing large multi-dimensional
images. It's built on top of Qt (for the GUI), vispy (for performant GPU-based
rendering), and the scientific Python stack (numpy, scipy).
This is a short release that refactors our installation process to allow more
flexibility around which Qt python bindings users install (PySide2, PyQt5).
Starting with this release, running pip install napari will no longer
install a GUI backend by default. For a complete installation with a GUI
backend, users are now encouraged to use pip install napari[all], which
will install the default backend (currently PyQt5). To explicitly select
a backend, users may run either pip install napari[pyqt5] or
pip install napari[pyside2].

The gallery of the Hôtel Lambert, which has a vaulted ceiling painted by Charles Le Brun in the 1650s, is a sumptuous affair, a beautiful conception with harmoniously painted, sculpted and gilt elements that suggest an overall design. Who was the author ? Was it Le Brun, who would have demonstrated here, before Vaux, the Louvre, and Versailles, his multi-faceted talent as master of the works ? What then is the contribution of the architect, Louis Le Vau, who built the hôtel ? In the absence of any documents relating to the gallery, the hypotheses proposed in this article are based essentially on stylistic analysis. The traits that one can attribute to the architect are noted in the structure of the gallery and the architectural decoration, as are those characteristic of the artist in the painting of the illusionistic vault, especially the quadratura, where care is taken to integrate the architectural design and unify the decorative programme. Penaud-Lambert Blanche.
