Thermal management of electronics: An experimental analysis of triangular, rectangular and circular pin-fin heat sinks for various PCMs
This study implies experimental investigation for optimization of heat transfer in electronic integrated circuits using close packed phase change materials (PCMs) filled pin-fin heat sinks. The aim of this study is to find the most efficient pin-fin configuration filled with optimum PCM to extend the operating range of electronic circuits. The experimental methodology is based upon variation of pin-fin configurations in rectangular, round and triangular cross-sections. Each configuration is allowed a pin-fin volumetric percentage of 9%. For analysis using PCM a volume fraction of 90% is maintained and six PCMs with different thermo-physical properties (varying melting temperatures, latent heats and heat capacities) are selected. These include paraffin wax, RT-54, RT-44, RT-35HC, SP-31 and n-eicosane. Moreover, the power levels mimicking heat input range between 5 W and 8 W. The resulting information is analyzed for the performance of a heat sink with and without PCM. Besides that, PCM ascendency is manipulated in terms of operational time, enhancement ratios, Stefan number and storage ratio. The outcomes suggest that triangular pin-fins are found to be the most effective pin-fin configuration for heat transfer both with and without PCM
IoD swarms collision avoidance via improved particle swarm optimization
Drones flights have been investigated widely. In the presence of high density and complex missions, collision avoidance among swarm of drones and with environment obstacles becomes a challenging task and indispensable. This paper aims to enhance the optimality and rapidity of three dimensional IoD path generation by improving the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. The improvements include using chaos map logic to initialize the population of PSO. Also, adaptive mutation is utilized to balance local and global search. Then, the inactive particles are replaced by new fresh particles to push the solution toward global optimal. Furthermore, Monte Carlo simulation is carried out and the results are compared with slandered PSO and with recent work CIPSO. The results exhibit significant improvement in convergence speed as well as optimal solution which prove the ability of proposed method to generate safety path for IoD formation without collision with terrain obstacle and among drones. The authors would like to acknowledge the support of the department of the computer engineering at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals for this work.Ahmed, G (corresponding author), King Fahd Univ Petr & Minerals, Comp Engn Dept, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia.

Automating the determination of wave speed using the pu-loop method
The PU-loop (pressure-velocity loop) is a method for determining wave speed and relies on the linear relationship between the pressure and velocity in the absence of reflected waves. This linearity of the PU-loop during early systole, which is directly related to wave speed, has always been established by eye. This paper presents a new technique that establishes this linearity and thus determining wave speed online. Pressure and flow were measured in the ascending aorta of 11 anesthetised dogs. The slope of the PU-loop, indicating wave speed was determined by eye and by using the new technique. The difference between the slopes of the two methods is in the order of 3%. The new technique is convenient and allows for the online assessment of wave speed, which could be used as a bedside tool for the assessment of arterial compliance
Keratoconus : current and future state-of-the-art
This book provides a practical guide to the most recent advances in the diagnostic management of corneal ectasia. Clear, concise chapters address new standardized nomograms of treatment of early progressive ectasia, new epithelium on future crosslinking with and without oxygen supplement, customized protocols, laser assisted corneal regularization protocols and the new femtolaser assisted lamellar corneal transplant. Clinicians and surgeons seeking a go-to guide on the topic of corneal ectasia will find this book to be an essential resource for the latest developments and predicted future trends in the field. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s)
Treating Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension With Sotatercept: A Meta-Analysis
: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) results from proliferative remodeling and narrowing of the pulmonary vasculature. Sotatercept is a first-in-class fusion protein that has recently garnered attention for showing improvements in patients with PAH. This meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) assesses the overall efficacy of Sotatercept in treating PAH. PubMed, Google Scholar, and Clinicaltrials.gov were searched using relevant keywords and MeSH terms. Studies were included if RCTs compared Sotatercept with placebo in patients with PAH. Our comprehensive literature search yielded 3,127 results, of which two RCTs with 429 patients were included in this meta-analysis. The patients were on background therapy for PAH. Results of the meta-analysis show that when compared with placebo, Sotatercept improved the six-minute walk distance (mean difference [MD] 34.99; 95% confidence interval [CI] 19.02-50.95; P < 0.0001), the World Health Organization (WHO) functional class (odds ratio [OR] 2.50; 95% CI 1.50-4.15; P = 0.0004), and pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR, MD -253.90; 95% CI -356.05 to -151.75; P < 0.00001). However, reduction in N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP, MD -1563.14; 95% CI -3271.93 to 145.65; P = 0.07) was not statistically significant in the Sotatercept group versus placebo. In conclusion, Sotatercept improves the six-minute walk distance, WHO functional class, and PVR in patients with PAH receiving background therapy. However, the effect on NT-proBNP levels was not statistically significant. More research is needed to assess the clinical relevance of these findings

Investigating the platinum electrode surface during Kolbe electrolysis of acetic acid
Platinum is commonly applied as the anode material for Kolbe electrolysis of carboxylic acids thanks to its superior performance. Literature claims that the formation of a barrier layer on the Pt anode in carboxylic acid electrolyte suppresses the competing oxygen evolution and promotes anodic decarboxylation. In this work, we show by using a combination of complementary in situ and ex situ surface sensitive techniques, that the presence of acetate ions also prevents the formation of a passive oxide layer on the platinum surface at high anodic potentials even in aqueous electrolyte. Furthermore, Pt dissolves actively under these conditions, challenging the technical implementation of Kolbe electrolysis. Future studies exploring the activity-structure-stability relation of Pt are required to increase the economic viability of Kolbe electrolysis
IMR 665: Management of Audio Visual Records & Archives. Individual assignment: Article summary / Zuheir Ashraf Zakaria
Article on:
Article 1 - “Audio-visual piracy: towards a study of the underground networks of cultural globalization”
Article 2 - “Audiovisual Piracy, Informal Economy, and Cultural Globalization”
This article summary comprises of two article of the same author with a full name of Tristan Mattelart. The first article published on 2009 entitled; “Audio-visual piracy: towards a study of the underground networks of cultural globalization”, while the second article that were published on the year 2011 entitled; “Audiovisual Piracy, Informal Economy, and Cultural Globalization”. These two article consist of 19 and 16 pages consecutively. Both of these article discuss the cultural industries threat it presents to the western world and the underground networks it related to. Although both of these articles discuss the steps taken mainly by the US government to combat these problem in order to protect their intellectual property rights of US companies. Since both of the article are being authored by the same author, we can see that the later article; “Audiovisual Piracy, Informal Economy, and Cultural Globalization” often mention and cite the older article as a reference
