Get PDFThe experience of journalistic coverage of the Covid-19 crisis is an interesting context to discuss theoretical and practical aspects about the sociocultural consequences and impacts of image in journalism. This article aims to structurally analyze this issue, in order to try to establish some perspectives that contemplate the protagonism of photojournalism in the context of the pandemic. The work to be developed is the observation of the dynamics of the relationship between reality and the dimension of the imaginary. Develop a study based on the imagery experience and the ability of photography to create a simulacrum of the quarantined world. Observe the dialectic between form and content of images that inform readers - increasingly connected, due to the fact that they are cloistered - about a world that is no longer the same. More than ever, the window to reality is photography in newspapers and news sites around the world.A experiência da cobertura jornalística da crise da Covid-19 é um contexto interessante para discutir aspectos teóricos e práticos acerca das consequências e impactos socioculturais da imagem no jornalismo. Este artigo visa analisar estruturalmente essa questão, para tentar estabelecer algumas perspectivas que contemplem a protagonismo do fotojornalismo no contexto da pandemia. O trabalho a ser desenvolvido é a observação da dinâmica da relação entre a realidade e a dimensão do imaginário. Desenvolver um estudo a partir da experiência imagética e da capacidade da fotografia em criar um simulacro do mundo em quarentena. Observar a dialética entre forma e conteúdo das imagens que informam leitores - cada vez mais conectados, pelo fato de estarem enclausurados - sobre um mundo que já não é mais o mesmo. Inteligência artificial na fotografia: o esvaziamento do caráter documental na produção de imagens-fluxo
Get PDFThis article discusses the aesthetic relationships that permeate photographic production. In this sense, the paper provokes a reflection on the technical and mechanical transformations that condition the role of the photographic image as a mechanism for interpretation, recording, documentation, and – inevitably – construction of reality. From this conception, we seek to observe how digital structures influence and impact the image perception of reality. In this research, we will verify that the documentary character, evoked by the processes of analog photography, goes into a dynamic of emptying through digital appropriations, in order to propose a detachment from the concept of recording. In photography produced by Artificial Intelligence applications, we will analyze how the construction of images, through generative processes triggered as responses to user requests in common language, appropriates a repertoire made up of the reality experiences of other images, to create a window into an impossible dimension. Thus, this paper seeks to glimpse the process of breaking the documentary materiality of the photographic image, based on contemporary issues of the digital image.Este artículo analiza las relaciones estéticas que permean la producción fotográfica. En este sentido, la obra provoca una reflexión sobre las transformaciones técnicas y mecánicas que condicionan el papel de la imagen fotográfica como mecanismo de interpretación, registro, documentación e –inevitablemente– construcción de la realidad. Desde esta concepción, buscamos observar cómo las estructuras digitales influyen e impactan en la percepción de la imagen de la realidad. En esta investigación observamos el carácter documental, evocado a través de los procesos de la fotografía analógica, pasando por una dinámica de vaciamiento a través de apropiaciones digitales, para proponer un desprendimiento del concepto de grabación. En la fotografía producida por aplicaciones de Inteligencia Artificial, analizaremos cómo la construcción de imágenes, a través de procesos generativos desencadenados como respuestas a solicitudes de los usuarios en el linguaje común, se apropia de un repertorio compuesto por experiencias reales de otras imágenes, para crear una ventana a un mundo imposible.O presente artigo discute as relações estéticas que permeiam a produção fotográfica. Neste sentido, o trabalho provoca uma reflexão acerca das transformações técnicas e mecânicas que condicionam o papel da imagem fotográfica enquanto mecanismo de interpretação, registro, documentação, e – inevitavelmente - de construção da realidade. Com esta concepção, busca-se observar de que forma as estruturas digitais influenciam e impactam na percepção imagética do real. Nesta pesquisa, verificaremos que o caráter documental, evocado por meio dos processos da fotografia analógica, passa por uma dinâmica de esvaziamento a partir das apropriações digitais, de forma a propor um descolamento com relação ao conceito de registro. Na fotografia produzida por aplicativos de Inteligência Artificial, analisaremos de que forma a construção de imagens, por meio de processos generativos desencadeados como respostas às solicitações de usuários em linguagem comum, apropria-se de um repertório constituído das experiências de realidade de outras imagens, para criar uma janela para uma dimensão impossível. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
