No full textPopulation, Ecology and Natural Resources - In this lecture, the author analyzes the present demographic problems and also in the future time through the science of ecology. He gives the basic importance to the renewable and non-renewable natural resources. Among those natural resources, the author analyzes three ones particularly: air, water and soil; he also points out some present forms of pollution caused either by misuse or disregard to these three basic resources of human life.
Nesta conferência, o Autor analisa os problemas demográficos atuais e do futuro, a luz da Ecologia, encarecendo a importância fundamental dos recursos naturais, tanto os não renováveis, como os renováveis. Entre os recursos naturais, o Autor analisa particularmente três: ar, agua e sol, denunciando formas atuais de poluição, provocadas pelo mau uso ou desrespeito desses três recursos básicos da vida humana.

No full textDiante de interferências esteticamente prejudiciais ao panorama natural ou urbano, faz-se necessário identificar a existência da poluição visual como o comprometimento aos valores ambientais, da mesma maneira como outras formas de poluição (do ar, das águas, do solo etc.). Dos excessos das propagandas comerciais às pichações, das monótonas massas de edifícios aos traçados urbanos mal planejados, dos acúmulos de lixo em ruas, praças e jardins às ações governamentais mal sucedidas quanto à sinalização de trânsito, o fato é que o problema da degeneração da qualidade da paisagem urbana surge no momento em que a renovação das cidades é intensa e veloz, justificando a preocupação deste estudo com os aspectos visuais. Esta pesquisa tem o intuito de disponibilizar os estudos da Geografia na aplicação do planejamento ambiental, isto sem perder de vista a inevitável e antagônica relação do poder do capital e da necessidade do cumprimento do acordo de se legar às gerações futuras as melhores condições ambientais possíveis.In front of prejudicial aesthetically interferences to natural or urban landscape, it's necessary to identify the presence of visual pollution how the engagement to environment values, as well as other kinds of pollution (of the air, water, soil and others). From commercial advertising excesses until the pitched walls, from monotonous building structures until the badly planed urban lines, from trash accumulation on streets, squares and gardens until the unsuccessful government actions linked of the traffic signs, what happened is that urban landscape quality deterioration problem emerges in the moment in that cities renovation is stronger and fast, justifying this work worry with visual aspects. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Full text link“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Qualidade ambiental e de vida na cidade de Várzea Paulista-SP: estudo de caso
No full textEntendendo-se que a sociedade humana depende, para o seu bem estar, da consideração não só dos fatores ambientais (físicos, químicos e biológicos), mas também dos parâmetros éticos e sociais, este trabalho procura analisar o significado da qualidade ambiental e da qualidade de vida sob o ponto de vista geográfico; para isso, realiza uma discussão acerca de todo o movimento que se iniciou desde a década de setenta a fim de discutir os problemas ambientais até a definição de qualidade ambiental e de vida urbana, destaca os principais indicadores urbanos que contribuem para nos fornecer resultados referentes à boa ou má qualidade ambiental e evidencia a cidade de Várzea Paulista-SP, como estudo de caso, no que se refere a sua caracterização ambiental-social, como também o levantamento de alguns indicadores para avaliar sua qualidade de vida, destacando: a qualidade das águas da região que abrange o Município de Várzea Paulista-SP; distribuição de água encanada por bairros; situação do esgoto na cidade; relação do número de estabelecimentos comerciais e industriais e o desemprego; dados sobre saúde, educação e criminalidade. Coloca-se como um dos focos principais deste estudo à questão do adensamento do espaço urbanizado influenciando na queda da qualidade ambiental e de vida na cidade de Várzea Paulista-SP.Understanding that human society depends, for its well-being, of a consideration not only of environmental factors (physical, chemical and biological), but also of ethical and social parameters, this work looks for an analysis of the meaning of environmental quality and quality of life under the geographical point of view and of other sciences; for this, makes a discussion of the whole movement that started since the seventies in order to discuss the environmental problems unto the definition of environmental and urban life qualities, foregrounds the main urban indicators that contribute to provide us with results referring to the good or bad environmental quality and makes evident the city of Várzea Paulista-SP, as a case study, in what refers to its social-environmental characterization, as well as the raising of some indicators to evaluate its quality of life, foregrounding: the quality of waters of the region that comprises the county of Várzea Paulista-SP; distribution of running water by districts; situation of sewage in the city; relation of the number of commercial and industrial establishments to unemployment; data on health, education, and criminality. It is made one of the main focal points of this study the question of the increasing density of the urbanized space influencing on the fall of environmental quality and quality of life in the city of Várzea Paulista-SP

This facts are associated to accidents on São Paulo State roads, the inciding during the year, week and hours of day, also the different types of accidents on fog-days and the available time necessary for stop.
Key words: Fog, car accidents, São Paulo Roads.O presente trabalho aborda a neblina quanto à gênese, ocorrência no espaço e no tempo e a consequente redução de visibilidade, associada a acidentes em rodovias paulistas, seja no decorrer do ano, da semana ou das horas do dia. Tipos de acidentes e tempo disponível para frear concluem o trabalho.

ESTUDO BIOGEOGRÁFICO DAS ÁREAS VERDES DE DUAS CIDADES MÉDIAS DO INTERIOR PAULISTA: PIRACICABA E RIO CLARO
Full text linkO presente trabalho é um estudo comparativo entre as áreas verdes de duas cidades médias do interior paulista. Após expor as técnicas empregadas, segue a análise da evolução das cidades, mostrando-se a falta de planejamento na ocupação do espaço urbano, o que vem se refletir, de modo negativo, sobre a existência de áreas verdes. Na vegetação urbana, o autor diferencia: a) vegetação de fundo de quintal e b) áreas verdes de lazer (parques e jardins). Associando os dados das áreas verdes com os da população e veículos automotores, o trabalho conclui que há insuficiência de áreas verdes (Piracicaba = 0,1 m²/hab. e Rio Claro = 2,8 m²/hab.) apresentando, para elevar estes índices, várias sugestões
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Full text linkWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
