Functional phases and angular momentum characteristics of Tkatchev and Kovacs
Understanding the technical requirements and underlying biomechanics of complex release and re-grasp skills on high bar allows coaches and scientists to develop safe and effective training programmes. The aim of this study was to examine the differences in the functional phases between the Tkatchev and Kovacs skills and to explain how the angular momentum demands are addressed. Images of 18 gymnasts performing 10 Tkatchevs and 8 Kovacs at the Olympic Games were recorded (50 Hz), digitised and reconstructed (3D Direct Linear Transformation). Orientation of the functional phase action, defined by the rapid flexion to extension of the shoulders and extension to flexion of the hips as the performer passed through the lower vertical, along with shoulder and hip angular kinematics, angular momentum and key release parameters (body angle, mass centre velocity and angular momentum about the mass centre and bar) were compared between skills. Expected differences in the release parameters of angle, angular momentum and velocity were observed and the specific mechanical requirement of each skill were highlighted. Whilst there were no differences in joint kinematics, hip and shoulder functional phase were significantly earlier in the circle for the Tkatchev. These findings highlight the importance of the orientation of the functional phase in the preceding giant swing and provide coaches with further understanding of the critical timing in this key phase

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

Modeling of the GI / G/ С/0/ L/ /G system by Monte-Garlo method

Queueing systems constitute a central tool in modelling and performance analysis of e.g. telecommunication systems and computer systems. Often the systems are complex (for instance, communication network, operating system) and contains many queues, which form a network of queues, i.e. a queueing network. The author considers a multichannel retrial queuing system GI / G/ С/ 0 / L / /G (with С channels, generilised input flow, general service times, general orbit's sojourn times, and orbit of capacity of L) in the article. Distribution functions of intervals between moments of calls' arrival, service and sojourn times of retrials are of general form. Such systems as GI / G/ С/0 / L/ /G can be represented as a set of Kolmogorov equations (an analytical model). It is very hard and sometimes impossible to obtain explicit formulas when trying to solve such set of equations, especially when it comes to generil distribution times. That is why an gorithm of statistical modeling of GI / G / С/ 0 / L //G system is introduced in order to estimate stationary average number of demands in the system. Graphical results are given
Investigating Reddit to detect subreddit and author stereotypes and to evaluate author assortativity
In recent years, Reddit has attracted the interest of many researchers due to its popularity all over the world. In this article, we aim at providing a contribution to the knowledge of this social network by investigating three of its aspects, interesting from the scientific viewpoint, and, at the same time, by analysing a large number of applications. In particular, we first propose a definition and an analysis of several stereotypes of both subreddits and authors. This analysis is coupled with the definition of three possible orthogonal taxonomies that help us to classify stereotypes in an appropriate way. Then, we investigate the possible existence of author assortativity in this social medium; specifically, we focus on co-posters, that is, authors who submitted posts on the same subreddit
Elaboration on Kwapien's theorem: Representing bounded mean zero functions f as coboundary f = g ◦ T − g
In [8] Kwapien proved that every mean zero function f ∈ L∞[0, 1] we can write as f = g ◦ T − g for some g ∈ L∞[0, 1] and some measure preserving transformation T of [0, 1]. However, as was discovered in [4] there is a gap in the proof for the case that f is not continuous. The aim of this bachelor thesis is filling in that gap in the proof. We first extend Kwapien’s proof for continuous functions to certain other measure spaces. Thereafter, we use the method of proof suggested by Kwapien, to proof the theorem for mean zero function f ∈ L∞[0, 1] for which λ(f−1({x})) = 0 for all x ∈ R. Using this result we then proof that every mean zero function f ∈ L∞[0, 1] can be written as a sum f =(g1 ◦ T1 − g1) + (g2 ◦ T2 − g2) where g1, g2 ∈ L∞[0, 1] and where T1, T2 are measure preserving transformations of [0, 1].
