Feelings written by music in Stygmat by Cyprian Kamil Norwid

W pracy zostały również wykorzystane fragmenty mojego autorstwa użyte w pracy dyplomowej Motyw muzyki i muzyka w twórczości Cypriana Kamila Norwida. This article aims to show an atypical expression of feelings. We face such case in Cyprian Kamil Norwid's novella Stygmat, where playing the violin is the only way to express feelings of a main character. Furthermore in the novella we may find an example of synthesis of arts -the author undertakes an attempt in "translating" the main character's music into poetry. On the example of this piece we can see not only a specific kind of expressing one's feelings, but also a community of arts, typical of the romanticism, as well as playing a particular role in the interpretation of the novella.MONIKA STOLARCZYK - studentka filologii polskiej na Wydziale Nauk Humanistycznych Uniwersytetu Kardynała Stefana Wyszyńskiego w Warszawie. Although increasing adiposity is usually associated with adipose tissue infiltration by inflammatory cells and systemic insulin resistance, Stolarczyk et al. (2013) report in this issue that mice deficient in the T-box transcription factor, T-bet, display a dissociated phenotype with enhanced perigonadal adipose but enhanced insulin sensitivity

Identifying the original function of vessels deposited in Lusatian Urnfield burials: the case of the Czernikowice cemetery (Poland)

    No full text
Usage patterns are one of the leading research issues in archaeological pottery studies. Non-cinerary vessels deposited in burials of the Lusatian Urnfield are particularly intriguing since they did not typically undergo detailed functional analysis. Their function has usually been determined based on the shape and surface treatment. Thus, grave pottery is widely regarded to have been explicitly fashioned for mortuary practices and not used for other purposes. It applies particularly to ceramic items other than containers, such as zoomorphic vessels, figurines, and rattles, which must have played a significant role in funeral ceremonies. The paper presents the outcome of morphological, stylistic and chromatographic analyses of vessels deposited in the Lusatian Urnfield cremation graves found at site 2 in Czernikowice, Legnica district, Poland. The ceramic items come from well-investigated grave contexts dated to Montelius' periods IV and V. The results indicate that most of the analysed vessels had contact with substances of vegetal and faunal origin. © 2023 Walter de Gruyter GmbH, Berlin/Boston

The aim of this article is presentation of the collegial church library in Wieluń and its XVIII century book collection. That is based on the Latin inventory Libri Bibliothecae which was a part of the records from the Wielun collegial church inspection provided on 23rd of June, 1766 by Ignacy Augustyn Sariusz Kozierowski, the subsidiary bishop of archdeaconate in Gniezno. The library was archived in the diocese of Wrocławek. The library stored at that time about 800 volumes. In order to make a review of its resources, the books from the inventory were sorted in relation to their content, and ascribed to particular sections according to a classifi cation typical for church libraries such as Bibles and concordances, comments to bible, fathers, doctors and apologists of the Church, speculative and dogmatic theology, moral theology, preaching, polemists, hagiography, ascetism, mysticism, passions, catechetic, liturgics, ecclesiastical and lay law, philosophy, church and lay history, ancient authors, humanists, dictionaries, tables and miscellaneous. In the middle of XVIII century, the collection included the biggest number of preachings, about 50 volumes, while the less represented were passions, just 2 volumes. The second largest sector was miscellaneous items with 30 volumes. Church authors signifi cantly dominated over the lay authors. The core of the collection consisted of Jesuits’ writings. Widely represented were also Dominicans and Franciscans. There was lack of books on church history while there were 5 volumes on lay history. The belles-lettres books in Polish were also absent, therefore it was typical a church library of that time

The immune cell transcription factor T-bet: A novel metabolic regulator

Obesity-associated insulin resistance is accompanied by an alteration in the Th1/Th2 balance in adipose tissue. T-bet (Tbx21) is an immune cell transcription factor originally described as the master regulator of Th1 cell development, although is now recognized to have a role in both the adaptive and innate immune systems. T-bet also directs T-cell homing to pro-inflammatory sites by the regulation of CXCR3 expression. T-bet(-/-) mice have increased visceral adiposity but are more insulin-sensitive, exhibiting reduced immune cell content and cytokine secretion specifically in the visceral fat depot, perhaps due to altered T-cell trafficking. Studies of T-bet deficiency on Rag2-- and IFN-γ-deficient backgrounds indicate the importance of CD4(+) T cells and IFN-γ in this model. This favorable metabolic phenotype, uncoupling adiposity from insulin resistance, is present in young lean mice yet persists with age and increasing obesity. We suggest a novel role for T-bet in metabolic regulation

The purpose of the case study is to highlight the main stages, and their characteristics, in Polish foreign policy towards the Russian Federation in the twenty‑year period after the end of Cold War era. The particular attention has been paid to the most recent period in Polish‑Russian relations that falls between 2008 and 2011. Author emphasizes new accents in Polish foreign policy towards Russia, which were introduced by the Government of Donald Tusk after 2008. The principal thesis of the case study assumes that the character of Polish‑Russian relations in the post‑Cold War era did depend on Russia and its internal and external policy, including the policy towards Poland. However, it didn’t depend on it entirely. The Polish‑ Russian relations were also conditioned by Poland, Polish foreign policy and, above all, by Polish policy towards Russia and its Western neighbors that had formed part of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics before. These bilateral relations were also conditioned by the existence of Polish governing parties’ political will to improve relations with Russia. Both sides, Poland and Russia, are responsible for the shape of Polish‑Russian dialogue. In opposition to the opinion that prevails in Poland, the Author reckons that the successive governing parties in this country are somewhat responsible for the poor condition of Polish‑Russian relations in the post‑Cold War era. In the case study the Author gives numerous arguments to back up his statement
