Tsunami hazard scenarios in the Adriatic Sea domain

    No full text
The tsunami phenomenon is mainly detected in oceanic domains but it can also occur in small basins as the Adriatic Sea. The presence of great waves has been recorded a few times in the past centuries on the Adriatic shorelines, therefore this suggests the idea to evaluate which could be the maximum amplitude reached by a possible future tsunami event. In this framework we calculate several synthetic mareograms applying to the shallow water basin case both the theory of modal summation by Panza et al. (2000) and the theory of the Green's function by Yanovskaya et al. (2003). The first is applied to the case of tsunamis generated by an offshore source, the second to the case of tsunamis generated by an inland source. Both kinds of tsunamigenic events did already occur in the Adriatic domain, as witnessed in many catalogues (Caputo and Faita, 1984; Bedosti and Caputo, 1986; Tinti et al., 2004) and also pointed out in the recent "Catalogue of reported tsunami events in the Adriatic Sea" (see Appendix). We calculate synthetic mareograms varying those parameters which are the most influencing in tsunami generation, such as magnitude, focal depth, water layer thickness, etc., in order to estimate the expected values of tsunami maximum amplitude and arrival time, in the whole Adriatic basin, for the selected scenarios

The BlueBio project’s database: web-mapping cooperation to create value for the Blue Bioeconomy

Funding innovation requires knowledge on previous/on-going research and identification of gaps and synergies among actors, networks and projects, but targeted databases remain scattered, incomplete and scarcely searchable. Here we present the BlueBio database: a first comprehensive and robust compilation of internationally and nationally funded research projects active in the years 2003–2019 in Fisheries, Aquaculture, Seafood Processing and Marine Biotechnology. Based on the previous research projects’ database realized in the framework of the COFASP ERA-NET, it was implemented within the ERA-NET Cofund BlueBio project through a 4-years data collection including 4 surveys and a wide data retrieval. After being integrated, data were harmonised, shared as open and disseminated through a WebGIS that was key for data entry, update and validation. The database consists of 3,254 “georeferenced” projects, described by 22 parameters that are clustered into textual and spatial, some directly collected while others deduced. The database is a living archive to inform actors of the Blue Bioeconomy sector in a period of rapid transformations and research needs and is freely available at: https://doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.21507837.v3

Blaufuss, F. Halzen, C. Kopper (Changed to add one missing author, no other changes from initial version.)The recent observation by the IceCube neutrino observatory of an astrophysical flux of neutrinos represents the "first light" in the nascent field of neutrino astronomy. The observed diffuse neutrino flux seems to suggest a much larger level of hadronic activity in the non-thermal universe than previously thought and suggests a rich discovery potential for a larger neutrino observatory. This document presents a vision for an substantial expansion of the current IceCube detector, IceCube-Gen2, including the aim of instrumenting a 10km310\,\mathrm{km}^3 volume of clear glacial ice at the South Pole to deliver substantial increases in the astrophysical neutrino sample for all flavors. A detector of this size would have a rich physics program with the goal to resolve the sources of these astrophysical neutrinos, discover GZK neutrinos, and be a leading observatory in future multi-messenger astronomy programs

The Relationship between Maternal Knowledge and Attitudes About Dental and Oral Health with Dental Caries Status of Children at Risk of Stunting at SDN Baumata Timur

    No full text
Dental issues in children, impacting proper tooth growth, highlight parental responsibility for a child\u27s oral health. Children depend on their parents for dental care, and unaddressed dental caries can lead to growth disturbances and increased stunting rates. The 2021 SSGI study shows a 37.8% stunting prevalence in East Nusa Tenggara, surpassing the national rate of 24.4%, with 15 districts in NTT exceeding 30%. In 2022, the national stunting rate decreased to 21.6%, but East Nusa Tenggara maintained a dominant 35.3% rate, with Kupang City and Kupang Regency exceeding the national average at 25.1% and 24.1%, respectively. This study aims to explore the relationship between maternal knowledge and attitudes concerning oral health and the occurrence of dental caries in children at risk of stunting at SDN Baumata Timur. Utilizing a cross-sectional approach, 62 students were examined, and their Body Mass Index (BMI-for-age) identified those experiencing malnutrition. Subsequently, students with malnutrition underwent dental examinations, and their mothers completed a questionnaire. Among the 62 students, 25 were identified as malnourished. Data analysis, employing correlation and multiple regression tests with a significance level of p < 0.05, indicates that maternal knowledge is not significantly related to dental caries in children, both in permanent (DMF-T) and deciduous teeth (def-t). Conversely, maternal attitudes significantly correlate with dental caries in children in both types of teeth. Multiple regression analysis reveals no significant relationship between maternal knowledge and attitudes regarding dental health and DMF-T in elementary school children (p > 0.05). However, a more significant relationship exists between maternal attitudes toward dental health and def-t in elementary school children (p=0.010<0.05). This highlights that maternal attitudes toward children\u27s dental health influence their behavior, particularly regarding deciduous teeth. In conclusion, while no significant relationship exists between maternal knowledge and dental caries in children, a significant association is evident between maternal attitudes and dental caries in children with malnutrition at SDN Baumata Timur
