This study is addressed to aspects related to mobility organization focus on people, giving special attention to accomplished displacements in public and none motorized modal, as well as the infrastructure and equipment intended to them. In doing so, a large theoretical referential was elaborated throughout a bibliographic and systematic literature revision, based on the Scopus data and on the directions of the Cochrane Handbook and NHS/York manuals, which are divided into three sessions that address: the movement of the rural populations to urban areas and some aspects of its transformation into the structure of big and small cities; the urban mobility organization of the public transportation systems and the multiple ways of its contents; and the public politics towards the urban mobility, its incentives, investments and alternatives to its regularization, as the education rules, supervision and moderation traffic. The research is also comprised by a case study, in which characterizes the region where the Federal University of Santa Catarina is located, in Florianópolis (city and capital of SC), and it presents an infrastructure analyses to the public and none motorized modal in the main campus. In the public survey case, the useful methods were: the documental analyses, the direct observation, the photographic register and the evaluation attribute forms in loco, plus an evaluation of the physical installations that are available for the bus transportation and the bicycle parking. The survey indicated a lack of planning caution of road intersections plus the control and monitoring decreasing on these environments, such factors contribute to the unsafety feeling within different modes of transportation in the city, specially the non-motorized. The analysis of the supporting equipment was based on general indicators that are considered essential in facilities for the use of the community, listing some desirable attributes and defining criteria for their evaluations. The results pinpoint that these urban facilities also have problems regarding following the established norms, specially the ones related to information and safety of the locals

STAY-CABLE VIBRATION MITIGATION USING NONLINEAR TARGETED-ENERGY- TRANSFER DEVICES: A PARAMETRIC STUDY

Large-amplitude oscillation of inclined stays are often associated with rain-wind induced phenomena, vortex shedding and parametric excitation. To suppress the problematic vibrations and to minimize the potential high cost of maintenance or repair, passive damping system have been widely employed. In most investigations the damper was modelled as a pure linear viscous device or as a linear viscous damper with internal stiffness perfectly anchored to the deck. Other authors evaluated the effectiveness of the damping system introducing the effects of the flexibility in the damper support. The aim of this paper is to investigate the use of Targeted-Energy-Transfer (TET) devices for cable vibration suppression; a new family of devices is proposed in which a nonlinear elastic stiffness force mechanism and device, modelled as a power-law elastic spring element, is placed in parallel with a linear viscous damper. The imperfect anchorage to the deck is also taken into account by an elastic support. The free vibration of a taut-cable with an attached passive TET device is investigated using an analytical formulation of the complex generalized eigenvalue problem in the presence of two cable segments. The concept of “universal design curve” was examined. A parametric study was performed on a reference cable to verify the adequacy of the “universal design curve” and to evaluate the effectiveness of TET device; the study was subsequently extended to two real stays, taken from the Fred Hartman Bridge (Houston, Texas, USA) and from the Stonecutters Bridge (Hong Kong, China). In all the investigations, theoretical and numerical results were obtained and compared

Collection efficiency at near-bandgap wavelengths in actual Si solar cells

    No full text
An expression for collection efficiency in actual Si solar cells is derived from the expression of Basore for inverse quantum efficiency vs. absorption depth at near-bandgap wavelengths. In the new expression, only internal rear-surface reflectance is an adjustable parameter. The new expression is used in reported actual Si solar cells, where it is compared to different approaches to evaluate collection efficiency including the linear fitting to inverse internal quantum efficiency versus absorption depth. This allows showing experimentally that these approaches are more liable to errors than the proposed expression for collection efficiency. © 2018 Author(s)

Validation by Measurements of a IC Modeling Approach for SiP Applications

    No full text
The growing importance of signal integrity (SI) analysis in integrated circuits (ICs), revealed by modern systemin-package methods, is demanding for new models for the IC sub-systems which are both accurate, efficient and extractable by simple measurement procedures. This paper presents the contribution for the establishment of an integrated IC modeling approach whose performance is assessed by direct comparison with the signals measured in laboratory of two distinct memory IC devices. Based on the identification of the main blocks of a typical IC device, the modeling approach consists of a network of system-level sub-models, some of which with already demonstrated accuracy, which simulated the IC interfacing behavior. Emphasis is given to the procedures that were developed to validate by means of laboratory measurements (and not by comparison with circuit-level simulations) the model performance, which is a novel and important aspect that should be considered in the design of IC models that are useful for SI analysi

Saturation current as a function of sheet resistance in Si

    No full text
We present the exact analytical solution to minority-carrier transport in the dark for non-uniformly doped Si regions in low-level injection, where bulk lifetime is inversely proportional to the square of doping density according to the Dziewior and Schmid model of Auger recombination and diffusivity is constant. The relevant expression for emitter saturation current density, J0em, can be set as a function of sheet resistance, RSHEET. Reported measured J0em(RSHEET)-curves in n- and p-type metal-coated emitters are matched by the presented J0em(RSHEET)-expression. To this aim, reported doping functions for band-gap narrowing are set as functions of RSHEET. The application range of the presented solution is checked. © 2018 Author(s)

Simple modeling of intrinsic bulk lifetime in doped silicon

    No full text
Based on the data in the literature, in highly-doped Si, where Auger recombination predominates, one can observe that, while minority-carrier bulk lifetime is inversely proportional to the square of doping density, diffusivity can be taken as constant. This implies that, at high dopings, diffusion length can be considered as proportional to the reciprocal of doping density. In the present work, we assume that such a dependence of diffusion length on doping holds at lower dopings as well, in the case, where Auger recombination prevails. This allows deriving a very simple expression for Auger lifetime as a function of diffusivity that is used together with a reported expression for radiative lifetime to calculate intrinsic lifetime at all dopings. The new expression for intrinsic lifetime is consistent with reported doping functions for minority-carrier diffusivity and agrees with the data of lifetime for dopings higher than 4×1017 cm-3 in both p-type Si and n-type Si. We exploit the relevant theory to show that such results are due to the fact that, at those doping levels, both diffusivity and Auger recombination are enhanced by electron-hole interaction. © 2018 Author(s)

Automatic Stopwords Identification from Very Small Corpora

    No full text
Natural Language Processing tools use language-specific linguistic resources, that might be unavailable for many languages. Since manually building them is complex, it would be desirable to learn these resources automatically from sample texts. In this paper we focus on stopwords, i.e., terms which are not relevant to understand the topic and content of a document. Specifically, we compare the performance of different techniques proposed in the literature when applied to very small corpora (even single documents), as may be the case for very local languages lacking a wide literature. Experiments show that simple term-frequency is an extremely reliable indicator, that outperforms other more complex approaches. While the study is conducted on Italian, the approach is generic and applicable to other languages
