Global time evolution of concentrated vortex rings
We study the time evolution of an incompressible fluid with axial symmetry without swirl, assuming initial data such that the initial vorticity is very concentrated inside N small disjoint rings of thickness ε and vorticity mass of the order of | log ε| - 1. When ε→ 0 , we show that the motion of each vortex ring converges to a simple translation with constant speed (depending on the single ring) along the symmetry axis. We obtain a sharp localization of the vorticity support at time t in the radial direction, whereas we state only a concentration property in the axial direction. This is obtained for arbitrary (but fixed) intervals of time. This study is the completion of a previous paper [5], where a sharp localization of the vorticity support was obtained both along the radial and axial directions, but the convergence for ε→ 0 worked only for short times
Stochastic Allen–Cahn equation with mobility
We introduce a class of stochastic Allen–Cahn equations with a mobility coefficient and colored noise. For initial data with finite free energy, we analyze the corresponding Cauchy problem on the d-dimensional torus in the time interval [0, T]. Assuming that d ≤ 3 and that the potential has quartic growth, we prove existence and uniqueness of the solution as a process u in L^2 with continuous paths, satisfying almost surely the regularity properties u ∈ C([0, T];H^1) and u ∈ L^2([0, T];H^2)
Heterogeneity of Latency Establishment in the Different Human CD4+ T Cell Subsets Stimulated with IL-15
HIV integrates into the host genome, creating a viral reservoir of latently infected cells that persists despite effective antiretroviral treatment. CD4-positive (CD4+) T cells are the main contributors to the HIV reservoir. CD4+ T cells are a heterogeneous population, and the mechanisms of latency establishment in the different subsets, as well as their contribution to the reservoir, are still unclear. In this study, we analyzed HIV latency establishment in different CD4+ T cell subsets stimulated with interleukin 15 (IL-15), a cytokine that increases both susceptibility to infection and reactivation from latency. Using a dual-reporter virus that allows discrimination between latent and productive infection at the single-cell level, we found that IL-15-treated primary human CD4+ T naive and CD4+ T stem cell memory (TSCM) cells are less susceptible to HIV infection than CD4+ central memory (TCM), effector memory (TEM), and transitional memory (TTM) cells but are also more likely to harbor transcriptionally silent provirus. The propensity of these subsets to harbor latent provirus compared to the more differentiated memory subsets was independent of differential expression of pTEFb components. Microscopy analysis of NF-κB suggested that CD4+ T naive cells express smaller amounts of nuclear NF-κB than the other subsets, partially explaining the inefficient long terminal repeat (LTR)-driven transcription. On the other hand, CD4+ TSCM cells display similar levels of nuclear NF-κB to CD4+ TCM, CD4+ TEM, and CD4+ TTM cells, indicating the availability of transcription initiation and elongation factors is not solely responsible for the inefficient HIV gene expression in the CD4+ TSCM subset. IMPORTANCE The formation of a latent reservoir is the main barrier to HIV cure. Here, we investigated how HIV latency is established in different CD4+ T cell subsets in the presence of IL-15, a cytokine that has been shown to efficiently induce latency reversal. We observed that, even in the presence of IL-15, the less differentiated subsets display lower levels of productive HIV infection than the more differentiated subsets. These differences were not related to different expression of pTEFb, and modest differences in NF-κB were observed for CD4+ T naive cells only, implying the involvement of other mechanisms. Understanding the molecular basis of latency establishment in different CD4+ T cell subsets might be important for tailoring specific strategies to reactivate HIV transcription in all the CD4+ T subsets that compose the latent reservoir

QT Indexes in Cirrhotic Patients: Relationship with Clinical Variables and Potential Diagnostic Predictive Value.
BACKGROUND AND AIMS:
A wide spectrum of cardiovascular changes characterizes cirrhosis, ranging from subclinical alterations to hyperkinetic syndrome. We looked for ECG markers of ventricular repolarization in a population of patients with cirrhosis in comparison to patients without cirrhosis and we investigated the relationship between these and other clinical and laboratory variables.
METHODS:
In 149 patients with cirrhosis and 152 controls, we measured QT maximum interval (QTmax), QT corrected interval (QTc), QT minimum interval (QTmin), QT dispersion (QTdisp), QT peak and T peak-to-end (TpTe).
RESULTS:
In subjects with cirrhosis, in comparison with controls, we observed a higher mean QTmax, mean QTc, mean QTmin, mean QTdisp and mean TpTe. At Cox regression analysis, diastolic blood pressure and beta-blocker treatment were significantly associated with mean QTmax, hypertension with mean QTmin and mean QTc, diastolic blood pressure, beta-blockers and ACE-inhibitors/ARBs with QT disp, and beta-blockers with TpTe. Analysis of ROC curves showed a significant area under curve towards cirrhosis diagnosis, respectively, for a cut-off value of >400 msec of QTmax, >360 msec of QTmin, >450 msec of QTc, >105 msec of TpTe and >55 msec of QTdisp
«El si butta per zerto un gran poltron»: Luigi Pulci a Milano
After having reconstructed, as far as the sources allow, Luigi Pulci\u27s stays in Milan and his relations with the Milanese milieu, which are echoed on his literary work, the essay focuses on other characters, closely linked to the author of Morgante, who in those years attended the Sforza court assiduously. Even the writings of Piero Vespucci, Benedetto Dei and Giovanni Ridolfi, in fact, help to outline a portrait of Milan and its court as it might have appeared to the Florentine visitors of the time.
Effects of first and second trimester vaginal bleeding on pregnancy outcome
The effects of vaginal bleeding during first and second trimester on pregnancy outcomes was assessed in a hospital-based population of 268 non-diabetic women. The group of non-bleeders comprised 173 females whereas, there were 71 females with first and 24 with second trimester bleeding. Fetal loss (abortion) occurred in 34% of first trimester and 25% of second trimester bleeders. Low birth weight and preterm delivery were significantly associated with second trimester haemorrhage. The results suggest that first and second trimester vaginal bleeding correlates with adverse infant outcomes
