The original idea of ACCP came from Asian pharmacists who were looking for a practical conference at which they could exchange and share ideas on the concept of clinical pharmacy. In 1996, representatives from China, Korea, Japan, and USA met in Seoul, Korea to plan for the first conference. As a result, the first East Asia Conference on Developing Clinical Pharmacy Practice and Clinical Pharmacy Education (EACDCPPE) was held in America in 1997. Only 36 representatives attended and pioneers planned it as bi-annual meeting. In 1999, the second EACDCPPE was successively held in Shanghai. This conference enabled more representatives in Asian countries to realize the differences between Asian and Western countries in the development of clinical pharmacy. When the third conference was held in Japan in 2003, the title of the conference was changed to Asian Conference on Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP). This opened the conference to more Asian countries; also the subject of clinical pharmacy was more strengthened. With a series of other Asian countries such as Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, and so on attending ACCP, as well as with the rapid development of clinical pharmacy in Asia, every country was enthusiastic about attending and holding this conference. At the 5th conference in Malaysia in 2005, the decision was made among the representatives of the member countries to hold the conference annually instead of biannually for efficiency and convenience in regard to communicating and sharing about clinical pharmacy. During the past 20 years, ACCP has been a major event in the clinical pharmacy scope in Asia and has been conducted in various countries especially in Asia. Clinical pharmacists have attended this prestigious meeting to share their experience in the fields of practice, research, and education on clinical pharmacy. Clinical pharmacist experts from USA, Canada, Australia, and UK have continuously come to transfer their knowledge and shared advance clinical pharmacy practice experiences. This conference supports rapid knowledge and experience transfer and enhances the emergence of clinical pharmacy practice in Asia. Indonesia hosted the 8th ACCP in Surabaya in 2008, and again this year Indonesia has successfully hosted the 17th ACCP in Yogyakarta from 28th to 30th July 2017. This year’s conference was also a celebration of 20 years of ACCP with the theme “ Unity in Diversity and the Standardisation of Clinical Pharmacy Services/’ At ACCP 2017, there were 6 preconfcrcncc workshops, poster sessions consisted of 199 posters, 21 oral presentation sessions consisted of a total of 142 oral presentations, and there were symposiums with 47 speakers, 2 plenary sessions with 4 speakers and 4 keynote speeches regarding various current issues in clinical pharmacy. About 1 ,133 participants attended the conference from 16 different countries. This ACCP 2017 proceeding provides an opportunity for readers to engage with selected papers presented at the 17th ACCP 2017. This book is also a valuable contribution to gaining a better understanding about the development of clinical pharmacy particularly in Asian countries and the future global challenges. Readers will find a broad range of research reports on topics of clinical pharmacy, social and administrative pharmacy, pharmacy education, pharmacocconomics, pharmacoepidemiology and other topics in pharmacy. The readers will also discover both common challenges and creative solutions emerging from diverse settings in developing clinical pharmacy services. The editors would like to thank all those who have contributed to submit full papers for this 17th ACCP conference. We received 119 papers from the conference and after a rigorous peer-review, 68 papers were accepted for publication in this proceeding of which 56 arc from Indonesia and 12 from Australia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand. We would like to express our special appreciation and sincere thanks to the scientific committee and the reviewers who have selected and reviewed the papers, and also the technical editor’s team (Ms Aric Sulistyarini and Ms Muffarihah ) who helped carry out the page layout and check the consistency of the papers with the publisher's template. It is a great honour to publish selected papers in this proceeding by CRC Press/Balkema (Taylor & Francis Group). Our special gratitude goes to the steering committee, the chairman of the conference and the members of the organizing committee involved in preparing and organizing the conference. Finally, we would like to thank Universitas Airlangga, Indonesian Pharmacist Association, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, Universitas Islam Indonesia, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta and Universitas Sanata Dharma for their endless support during the conference. Last, but not least, we also place on record our sense of gratitude to one and all who, directly or indirectly, have lent a helping hand to this conferenc

The evidence from clinical trials on Gout medicines effect on COVID‐19: A protocol for systematic review and meta‐analysis

    No full text
Abstract Aim To evaluate the available evidence from clinical trials on the efficacy of gout medicines against COVID‐19. Design Systematic review and Meta‐analysis. Methods We are systematically searching five databases [PubMed, Embase, CT.gov, ICTRP, CINAHL (EBSCO)]. We are following the PRISMA statement and the EPOC guidelines. The meta‐analysis will be conducted using Revman‐5.4.1 from Cochrane collaboration, UK. This review's protocol was also registered in PROSPERO, University of York, UK (CRD42022299718). Results In this meta‐analysis, we plan to give a conclusive overview of the available evidence on the efficacy of the medications used to manage gout in reducing COVID‐19 mortality, ICU admission, ventilation rate and hospitalization duration. If the results were positive, these drugs would greatly add to the scarce treatment options against COVID‐19. Furthermore, these drugs might provide an excellent alternative to inconvenient and expensive drugs. Additionally, most of these drugs have a well‐established safety profile for use during nursing, making them a much safer option for nursing mothers with COVID‐19

Background: Ebola virus disease (EVD) is at the moment a global pandemic disease. The importance of public awareness and alertness toward the disease cannot be underestimated since it is an important step to prevent unnecessary anxiety, fear, as well as an excessive reaction that accompany such anxiety. The main objective of this study is to assess the current level of knowledge and perception of students and staff at Universiti Sains Malaysia toward EVD. Method: A cross sectional survey method was used, and a self-administered questionnaire was used as an instrument for data collection. The questionnaire consisted of three sections. Section A with 6 questions pertaining to demographic data of respondents′, Section B had 20 questions pertaining to respondents knowledge of cause, symptoms, transmission, prevention, and current affairs about EVD. Section C had 12 questions pertaining to respondents′ perception toward EVD. Respondents in this study included both students and staff. Results: From the 520 questionnaire (400 among students and 120 among staff) distributed, only 458 were retrieved (380 from students and 78 from staff). Results showed that majority of the students were female (163; 66.0% for undergraduates, 71; 53.4% for postgraduate and 50; 64.1% for staff). The majority of the students first learned about EVD from the internet (193, 80.4%; 102, 81.0%; and 43, 58.9%, respectively, for undergraduate, postgraduate, and staff). This study found that the current level of knowledge about EVD among respondents is low (median knowledge score <50%). However, postgraduate students possess more knowledge than undergraduate and staff (median score 46.2%, P = 0.002). In addition, staff respondents from the university hospital (clinic) were found to possess more knowledge than other category of staff (median score = 61.5%, P = 0.002). Furthermore, sciences based students were found to have more knowledge than arts and social sciences based students (median score = 46.2%, P < 0.0001). Most of the respondents; 136 (56.7%), 52 (41.3%), and 30 (41.1%), respectively, of undergraduates, postgraduates, and staff have a misconception that there are foods that can effectively cure or prevent EVD. The internet was found to be the most commonly acceptable method for provision of education about EVD among undergraduate, 64 (27.7%) and postgraduate students, 32 (26.2%). A combination of internet, TV shows and awareness campaign was found to be the most acceptable way to provide EVD education among staff (26, 41.9%). Conclusion: It was concluded that the current level of knowledge among students and staff regarding EVD is low and there is a need to raise awareness about EVD among the university population

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
