Drivers and challenges: green sukuk issuance in Malaysia / Mohammad Syafiq Abdullah
International stakeholders are striving and competing to shift the current business settings to a greener landscape. In general, shaping a sustainable future industry requires a huge amount of funding, whereby an estimated amount up to USD 5.7 trillion is needed annually. Green bonds have been developed to support the environmental agenda and yet such target remains unreachable. Therefore, to bridge the gap between green financing agenda and Shariah-compliant stakeholders, the United Nations and Malaysian government have collaborated to push for industry player participation in the newly-introduced concept of green sukuk. Green sukuk is a Shariah-compliant fixed income investment that integrates financial concerns with Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues. Despite the extensive efforts exerted, the number of green sukuk players has yet to achieve the expected amount and still lags in accelerating the green investment required. This study was conducted to explore the drivers that influence and the challenges that faced by firms to issue green sukuk in Malaysia, consequently developing an integrated framework to promote green sukuk issuance. The data required were obtained by adopting a qualitative case study methodology in which interviews with key participants in green sukuk issuance in Malaysia were undertaken and the results were triangulated with documented resources. The results illustrated three main drivers that influenced the current green sukuk issuers, namely competitiveness, legitimation and ecological responsibility. The first two drivers revealed a strong influence towards green sukuk issuance in Malaysia, while ecological responsibility provided minimal impact on the financing structure. However, the study indicated further that ecological responsibility could be enhanced through the involvement of religion in the environmental agenda, thereby shaping the current social behaviour. The study also discovered several challenges in green sukuk financing, green project construction and the response from investors. These challenges found to give green sukuk issuers a hard time to obtain the financing and completing the project. To conclude, green sukuk have a good prospect in accelerating green investment in Malaysia. However, the market is still nascent and several measurement need to be taken into consideration to develop the green sukuk market in near future including consistent marketing of green sukuk, facilitating conducive green sukuk environment, providing favourable policies to industry and integrating religion into green agenda to influence the population

The awareness and understanding of Islamic economy among accountancy students in UiTM Puncak Alam / Muhammad Nor Syafiq Abdullah
Islam is a universal, integrity, and comprehensive life system that had set a perfect journey for human life. As a way of life, Islam touches all matters pertaining to life,
from the simplest to the most complex of affairs. Both in the political, economic, educational, artistic, social, cultural, and another aspects. Islam is the perfect religion,
governing economic matters. When the economy of a country or national economy that applies the basis of the Qur'an and Hadith is used as the ultimate guide, surely the
economy of a country will go well and avoid the contradictory things of syarak. The fact is not all Islamic countries in the world are implementing sharia-compliant
economic policies in their economic systems. But, some countries still practice conventional economic systems that have many advantages but bring harm to Muslims. So, people nowadays must know about economic system in our country. They also can choose to use the system that is proper for them to apply in their economy system. They generate national income through conventional economic
system which they have practiced since time immemorial. This is quite difficult for them to continue to use the Islamic economic system if not given understanding exactly about the advantages contained in the economic system of Islam when they use it
KEBEBASAN PINDAH AGAMA DALAM HAM DAN HUKUM ISLAM: STUDI PEMIKIRAN ABDULLAH SAEED (RELEVANSI BAGI PEMBAHARUAN HUKUM PERDATA DI INDONESIA)
Apostasy which is part of freedom of religion is still quite controversial in
the perspective of Islamic law and Indonesian legislation. However, there is an
opinion from Abdullah Saeed who is trying to make compatibility between
Islamic law and human rights regarding the status of apostasy. From this
background, this research will question two things: namely how Abdullah Saeed
thinks about the compatibility between human rights and Islamic law regarding
freedom of religious conversion and the relevance of Abdullah Saeed's thoughts
about freedom of changing religion for legislation in Indonesia.
This type of research is library research using a qualitative-normative
approach. The used method of analyzing data is a descriptive analytic one. In the
method of data collection, the author uses the method of observation, literature
study, and documentation.
The results of this study show that Abdullah Saeed points out that the
principles raised by human rights and Islamic law have a thread that is truly
compatible, namely the right to freedom of choice of one's beliefs based on one's
conscience and the right to life. No one can impose the will of others, including
the state. Likewise, in Islamic law, there should be no compulsion in embracing
religion, so that the perpetrators of changing religions should not get sanctions in
the world. That is why it is important that the relevance of Abdullah Saeed's
thoughts is to improve several private laws and regulations in Indonesia that seem
discriminatory against people who change their religions
