Cultural Spectrum in Arvind Adiga’s Selection Days
Cultural Studies have played a pivotal role in understanding and evaluating the power dynamics of the social, political, economic and ethical world order by empirically engaging and focusing on the present-day culture, tracing its historical roots and explicating its attributes with reference to a particular literary text and its reception in a society. Arvind Adiga, the Man-Booker Prize winning Indo-Australian author, in Selection Day, has adroitly detailed how cricket as an individual entity impacts the cultural phenomena of a society by confronting its inherent myriad issues. The narrative delves deep into the lives of two siblings - Radha and Manju, witnesses the dramatic turnaround of events and tries to capture the themes of unfulfilled desires and preordained destinies. The novel also explores how the sport holds different meanings and significance for different characters, each of whom view the game in the light of their own ideology. The author foresees and sensitizes the theme of homosexuality, which is still a taboo and been unheard of, within the sports fraternity. Adiga’s critique of the parental felony, embodied in Mohan Kumar, and its repercussions is the most compelling theme at the heart of this work of fiction. Selection Day powerfully binds together the societal phenomena of class construction, unquenchable thirst for money, sexual orientations and ideologies with a single thread and studies how culture, in itself, is an ever-evolving phenomenon
Highlights of Library Automation related documents in the INSPEC
The paper has attempted to analyse the Library Automation related records in the INSPEC (1969 to July 2004). The growth of Library Automation related literature, country of input, scattering of literature in different publication types, core journals publishing Library Automation related publications, language-wise proportion of the literature, content analysis through keywords/descriptors, availability of URLs (Universal Resource Locator) for full text articles as alternative locations were the main focus of the study. After the year 1984, the literature grows approximately linearly with a growth rate of about 600 items per year. The USA is the predominant publishing country of Library Automation related literature. Journals are the most preferred publication media, followed by Conference/Proceedings-Papers, Book-Chapters, and Reports publications. Most productive journals are: Library Hi Tech, followed by Computers in Libraries, VINE, Information Technology and Libraries, and Program. English articles constitute 91.83% of the total literature. That means the non-English articles constitute only 8.17%. The keyword analysis indicates that the key areas of Library Automation were cataloguing; academic-libraries; information-retrieval; Internet; and information-services. The most occurred URL was http://www.dlib.org/ as alternative locations in the availability notes of Library Automation related records
Coexisting Z-type charge and bond order in metallic NaRu2O4
© 2022, The Author(s).How particular bonds form in quantum materials has been a long-standing puzzle. Two key concepts dealing with charge degrees of freedom are dimerization (forming metal-metal bonds) and charge ordering. Since the 1930s, these two concepts have been frequently invoked to explain numerous exciting quantum materials, typically insulators. Here we report dimerization and charge ordering within the dimers coexisting in metallic NaRu2O4. By combining high-resolution x-ray diffraction studies and theoretical calculations, we demonstrate that this unique phenomenon occurs through a new type of bonding, which we call Z-type ordering. The low-temperature superstructure has strong dimerization in legs of zigzag ladders, with short dimers in legs connected by short zigzag bonds, forming Z-shape clusters: simultaneously, site-centered charge ordering also appears. Our results demonstrate the yet unknown flexibility of quantum materials with the intricate interplay among orbital, charge, and lattice degrees of freedom.11Nscopu

The paper reviews Indias macroeconomic performance and policies since 2000. The first section briefly summarizes key macroeconomic developments regarding economic growth, inflation, external balance, the fiscal situation and aggregate savings and investment. The second section considers some of the challenges posed to macroeconomic management in this period and the efficacy of the policy responses adopted. In particular, it analyses the progress in fiscal consolidation and the policies adopted to deal with the challenge of the unprecedented surge in external capital inflows into India. Impact of Time-dependent Annealing on TiO2 Films for CMOS application
Post-deposition annealing (PDA) is the inherent part of sol-gel fabrication process to achieve the optimum device performance, especially in CMOS applications. The annealing removes the oxygen vacancies and improves the structural order of dielectric films. The process also reduces the interface related defects and improves the interfacial properties. In this work, we have integrated the sol-gel spin-coating deposited high-TiO2 films in MOS. The films are fired at 400 degrees C for the duration of 20, 40, 60 and 80 min. The thicknesses of the films were found to be of similar to 30 nm using ellipsometry. The (Al/TiO2/p-Si) devices were examined with current-voltage (I-V) and capacitance-voltage (C-V) at room temperature to understand the influence of firing time. The C-V and I-V characteristic showed a significant dependence on annealing time such as variation in dielectric constant and leakage current. The accumulation capacitance (Cox), dielectric constant (kappa) and the equivalent oxide thickness (EOT) of the film fired for 60 min were found to be 458 pF, 33, and 4.25nm, respectively with a low leakage current density (1.09 10(-6) A/cm(2)) fired for 80 min at + 1 V
Preparation and characterization of high surface area activated carbon from Fox nut (Euryale ferox) shell by chemical activation with H3PO4
AbstractActivated carbons were prepared from Fox nutshell by chemical activation with H3PO4 in N2 atmosphere and their characteristics were studied. The effects of activation temperature and impregnation ratio were examined. N2 adsorption isotherms characterized the surface area, total pore volume, micropore volume and pore size distribution of activated carbons. Activated carbon was produced at 700°C with a 1.5 impregnation ratio and one hour of activation time has found 2636m2/g and 1.53cm3/g of highest BET surface area and total pore volume, respectively. The result of Fourier-infrared spectroscopy analysis of the prepared activated carbon confirmed that the carbon has abundant functional groups on the surface. Performance Analysis of Adaptive Clipping Technique for Reduction of PAPR in Alamouti Coded MIMO-OFDM Systems
AbstractLike single-input single-output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (SISO-OFDM), multi-input multi-output (MIMO) OFDM systems also suffer from the problem of high peak to average power ratio (PAPR). To account for this issue, amplitude clipping is one of the simplest techniques employed to reduce PAPR. However, it leads to additional distortion. In this paper, adaptive clipping technique is proposed to reduce PAPR of Alamouti coded MIMO-OFDM systems. In this scheme, successive peaks are clipped according to an adaptive algorithm. Simulation results reveal that the proposed clipping technique provides effective reduction in PAPR and better bit error rate (BER) performance. BER performance and PAPR reduction capability of the proposed algorithm in MIMO-OFDM systems are also compared with SISO-OFDM systems. Power spectral density (PSD) for conventionally clipped, adaptively clipped, and normal SISO-OFDM systems is analyzed and plotted. It can be revealed from the PSD plot that the spectral spreading due to the proposed scheme is less than the conventional clipping scheme
India's specialisation in IT exports: Offshoring can't defy gravity
India’s actual export specialisation in IT services is unrivalled by any comparable country and it is evidence of a strong comparative advantage. This paper finds that India owes its IT specialisation in part to its reliance on offshoring - driven by the supply of well-educated, English-speaking and affordable workers - but also to a shift away from high-tech manufacturing exports.
