    No full text
Altar flowers play an important role in various religious traditions, including in the context of the worship liturgy of Lutheran churches today. This paper explores the significance of altar flowers in the liturgical context of the Huria Kristen Batak Protestan (HKBP) church, focusing on their symbolic meaning, aesthetic aspects, and the psychological impact they bring to worship. In worship, altar flowers are visual elements rich in meaning and often used to represent symbols such as the beauty of fertility, new life, or sacrifice, which contribute to the spiritual experience of the congregation.  But behind it all, the author has a question from several sources that must be answered by the author regarding how important altar flowers are in the liturgical celebration of worship and what about the flowers that must be given in the altar whether live flowers or otherwise. That way the author will investigate further about the essence and true meaning of altar flowers in the Sunday worship liturgy at the HKBP Tambun Sari Ressort Bongbongan Church. The author then uses the literature method by examining church theological documents and analyzing interview data with congregations at HKBP Tambun Sari Ressort Bongbongan. The results show that regardless of the type of flower chosen, it is important to understand that the essence of using altar flowers is to express deep symbolic and spiritual meaning, in the context of worship

    No full text
Banua Niha Keriso Protestan (BNKP) is one of the churches organized by the Western missionaries in Nias, Indonesia. Missionaries sent by Rheinische Missions-Gesellschaft (RMG) since 1865 imparted a theology of mission which emphasized the superiority of Christianity compared to other religions. This kind of mission theology can cause tension and triggered conflict among religions because of the issue of Christianization. Therefore, the primary purpose of this study was to do a critical analysis of the theology of mission of BNKP that is informed by the theology of religion, which addresses the challenge of religious pluralism in Indonesia. This research focused on mission and religions studies. Through historical, sociological, or anthropological studies and content analysis of religions and BNKP, author found four models of mission that is acknowledged by BNKP. The first is a mission as conversion. Here, mission means being a witness of the Gospel to others, so they make a personal decision to believe in Jesus Christ and to be a member of the church. The second is the church-centered mission. The mission is done for the sake of planting and building the church by self-governing, self-propagating, and self-sustaining churches. The third is missio Dei. The mission is understood as God’s mission, and the church is only the instrument of God’s mission. The last is a mission as a holistic mission. In this model, mission means reaching the whole dimension of life including the whole creation

This article aims to explain how private property rights are framed in a social dimension. Property rights here are given by God as a means to protect human life as well as those of others around them. This research was carried out using qualitative methods by reviewing Christian theological literature and developing topics related to private property rights within the framework of the social dimension. First, the author explains how property rights are defined, the social dimensions and what the Biblical view of this is. Then the author explains how Christianity views this by explaining how the significance of property ownership comes from God. Then explains the theological view regarding private property rights within the framework of the social dimension which directs each individual to a view that shows that each person's rights must also be seen as part of someone's property rights within them. Private ownership or personal rights have a moral obligation to see other groups in society as having a part in it. With this understanding, private ownership must also be in a good and correct flow. Private property rights must always be in order to fulfill needs, while protecting personal sustainability and the lives of other people in need

Luther’s Understanding of the Presence of God in Creation: Toward a Lutheran Eco-Theology

    No full text
This paper argues for a Lutheran eco-theology based on the notion of the presence of God in the creation, heavily derived from two of Martin Luther’s interrelated concepts: creation and sacramental theology. Both Luther’s theological ideas proclaim the presence of God based on God’s creative works. This paper investigates both theological ideas despite having different approaches to presenting God’s power and its significance to eco-theology. The method employs theoretical research of Martin Luther’s main writings and works. The primary result of this investigation shows that Luther’s understanding of the real presence of God in the dialectical differences between creation and sacramental theology provides meaningful expressions and elements to develop a Lutheran eco-theology. The paper concludes that in the middle of the present ecological catastrophe, it is urgent to develop a relevant eco-theology that can provide significant theological and ethical ideas for the care of the Earth

This study discusses the division of gender roles in the culture of Mamasa, West Sulawesi, focusing on the Pa'bannetauan ritual related to marriage and childbirth. The study finds that the bilateral kinship system in Mamasa allows for an equitable division of roles between men and women, supporting gender equality. Although there is freedom in choosing a partner, strict customary rules must still be followed, including offerings and agreements between both families. These findings are compared with patrilineal and matrilineal kinship systems in other cultures, showing that the bilateral system in Mamasa better supports gender equality. The article concludes that the customary norms in Mamasa can serve as an example of how traditions can support gender equality and justice in society

The dynamic of development of Islam, either conceptually or institutionally, in Maluku should not be separated from the social history of Maluku society during colonial time of Westerners such as Portuguese and Dutch. This article attempts to reconstruct the dynamic of Islam especially in Ambon Island under colonization of the Dutch (VOC). The highly price of spices around sixteenth and seventeenth centuries had attracted many international traders coming to the spice island for trading spices (clove and nutmeg). Economic transaction and social interaction between local community of Ambon and foreign traders brought about significant social transformations mainly among indigenous people of Ambon, which was a trade center of spice at that time. Such social transformations escalated into political conflict between local community and Western colonizer (Dutch) who forced monopoly system of spice trading. Islam had been adhered by some local communities of Ambon at Leihitu Peninsula far before the Westerners was an important religion that conducted political-economic resistance and negotiated local identity facing colonial administration in Ambon at that time

    Gereja dan Stunting: Integrasi Tanggung-Jawab

    No full text
Stunting is a serious problem currently faced by Indonesia. About 20 out of 100 children under five years old suffer from stunting. The stunting condition is so severe that it has even occurred since the beginning of life, when a new child is born, characterized by a height and birth weight below the recommended minimum size. The church is an organic entity that should not only convey the truth of God's word, but also provide solutions to the problem of stunting. Jesus' command to the disciples in Mark 6:35-44 to feed the people is the basis for the discussion of this paper, which will open the paradigm of the church's involvement in handling stunting in the future. There are many things that the church can do, directly or indirectly, for pregnant women and mothers of under five children

    Transformasi Gereja Bagi Keadilan Ekonomi

    No full text
One of the most important dimensions of the economy is the creation of justice and common prosperity for all people in the world. The economy is both rules and norms forming a unified global society. Therefore, conversations and all systems that govern the economy must answer the most important question of the economy, namely whether the system formed and compiled by humans is able to bring social justice and shalom to all mankind. The biggest problem in addressing global poverty is the injustice of the economic system which makes the owners of capital richer, while the workers and the people are getting impoverished even though they have worked hard. This structured poverty has also resulted in a series of negative impacts of social life such as terrorism, environmental damage, racism and global discrimination. This article questions the role of the church in the phenomenon of economic injustice that has often been discussed in the global ecumenical community, for it seems the churches have not done much or even grasped the reality of this injustice. The true church is a church that is able to balance ecclesiocentricity and oikocentricity, meaning that the spiritual life of the church must be felt by members of the congregation socially and politically with social justice. Ecclesiology can only be understood if the church joins hands ecumenically, across religions and across nations in demanding an end to the injustice of the economic system while seeking equitable economic alternatives by absorbing the values of local wisdom
