Stem cells: Role in medical and dental therapies
Recent exciting new discoveries place dental professionals at the forefront of helping their patients benefit from potentially life-saving therapies derived from a patient′s own stem cells obtained from deciduous or permanent teeth. The great hope is that suitable stem cells, produced in large quantities through cell culture methods and injected into failing tissues and organs, will produce fresh, replacement cells to take over from lost or damaged ones. This ability to grow and regenerate tissues is the focus of the emerging field of -personalized medicine which uses a patient′s own stem cells for biologically compatible therapies and individually tailored treatments. This review focuses on the role of oral physicians in the recovery and use of the stem cell in both dental and medical regenerative therapies
High prevalence of cardiovascular diseases among other medically compromised conditions in dental patients: A retrospective study
Prevalence of dental caries, periodontitis, and oral hygiene status among 12-year-old schoolchildren having normal occlusion and malocclusion in Mathura city: A comparative epidemiological study
Objective: The aim was to find the prevalence of dental caries, periodontitis, and oral hygiene index-simplified (OHI-S) among 12-year schoolchildren having normal occlusion and malocclusion in Mathura city.
Materials and Methods: The present study was a cross-sectional study done among the 100 subjects who have been selected from 5 schools in four different geographical locations. The data regarding their socio-demographic characteristics, dental caries status, periodontitis status and oral hygiene status was collected using structured proforma. Means, standard deviations and test of significant were used as statistics to describe the data.
Results: The results showed that there was no significant difference between dental caries status, periodontitis status among subjects having normal occlusion and malocclusion (P = 0.06, 0.093) but significant relationship was found OHI-S and children who were having malocclusion (and P = 0.022). Significant difference was also found between periodontitis and oral hygiene status (P = 0.00).
Conclusion: It was observed from the present study that normal occlusion and malocclusion had no or weak significant effect on overall caries and periodontitis prevalence whereas oral hygiene status had a strong effect on overall periodontitis prevalence but not in relation to prevalence of dental caries in 12-year-old school children in Mathura city

Vascular anomalies are a heterogeneous group of congenital blood vessel disorders more typically referred to as “birthmarks.” They are further categorized into vascular tumors and malformations, which are again subdivided into various types based on specific morphology, pathophysiology, clinical behavior and management of particular entity. Hemangiomas are the most common vascular tumors. Lymphatic, capillary, venous and arteriovenous malformations are the main subdivisions under the heading of vascular malformations. Knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding sterilization protocol among undergraduate dental students in Faridabad City: A questionnaire-based study
Aim: To assess the level of knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding sterilization/infection control measures among undergraduate dental students. Materials and Methods: A total of 300 dental students from Manav Rachna Dental College, Faridabad, Haryana participated in this study. A questionnaire survey comprising 24 questions regarding knowledge, attitudes, and practices was completed by the participants. Results: It was observed that a majority of the students were highly concerned regarding the sterilization and infection control protocol. 96.9% students dispose of their gloves after use. About 89% are aware of the exact specifications of sterilization via autoclave. Use of mouth masks and head caps as effective infection control measures was practiced among 82.4% students. A large fraction of students comprising about 85% believed that proper sterilization could not be achieved by simple boiling of instruments. Conclusion: The level of knowledge and attitude of sterilization measures were acceptable, although compliance and practice of the same needs to be more worked upon
Bengali Visual Genome: A Multimodal Dataset for Machine Translation and Image Captioning

Bengali Visual Genome (BVG for short) 1.0 has similar goals as Hindi Visual Genome (HVG) 1.1: to support the Bengali language. Bengali Visual Genome 1.0 is the multi-modal dataset in Bengali for machine translation and image
captioning. Bengali Visual Genome is a multimodal dataset consisting of text and images suitable for English-to-Bengali multimodal machine translation tasks and multimodal research. We follow the same selection of short English segments (captions) and the associated images from Visual Genome as HGV 1.1 has. For BVG, we manually translated these captions from English to Bengali taking the associated images into account. The manual translation is performed by the native Bengali speakers without referring to any machine translation system.
The training set contains 29K segments. Further 1K and 1.6K segments are provided in development and test sets, respectively, which follow the same (random) sampling from the original Hindi Visual Genome. A third test set is
called the ``challenge test set'' and consists of 1.4K segments. The challenge test set was created for the WAT2019 multi-modal task by searching for (particularly) ambiguous English words based on the embedding similarity and
manually selecting those where the image helps to resolve the ambiguity. The surrounding words in the sentence however also often include sufficient cues to identify the correct meaning of the ambiguous word.

The text parts of the dataset (train and test sets) are in simple tab-delimited plain text files.
All the text files have seven columns as follows:

Avaliação do potencial efeito protetor do probucol em modelos experimentais da doença de Huntington

Programa de Pós-Graduação em BioquímicaA doença de Huntington (DH) é uma patologia neurodegenerativa, autossômica dominante caracterizada por sintomas atribuídos à morte de neurônios estriatais e corticais no cérebro. O mecanismo de neurodegeneração na DH parece estar relacionado com excitotoxicidade, disfunção mitocondrial e estresse oxidativo. O probucol (PB) é um composto fenólico antilipêmico, que apresenta propriedades anti-inflamatória e antioxidante em diferentes modelos experimentais de toxicidade/patologia. O objetivo deste estudo foi investigar o possível efeito protetor do PB sobre a neurotoxicidade e estresse oxidativo em modelos experimentais de DH in vitro e in vivo. Inicialmente, foi avaliada a relação entre prejuízo no metabolismo energético, excitotoxicidade e estresse oxidativo em fatias de estriado de ratos expostas ao ácido quinolínico (AQ), ácido 3-nitropropiônico (3-NP) e ao modelo combinado (AQ + 3-NP). Os dados sugerem que os modelos utilizados podem gerar um padrão complexo de dano, que envolve comprometimento metabólico, formação de espécies reativas de oxigênio (ERO) e estresse oxidativo. O PB preveniu o estresse oxidativo nas três condições experimentais e foi capaz de proteger contra disfunção mitocondrial induzida pelo AQ e AQ + 3-NP. Além disso, o potencial efeito protetor do probucol foi avaliado sobre a neurotoxicidade do 3-NP em ratos. O pré-tratamento com probucol (por 60 dias) aumentou a atividade da glutationa peroxidase (GPx) no estriado e no córtex e preveniu o prejuízo motor e o estresse oxidativo induzido pelo 3-NP em ratos. O efeito do PB sobre a GPx e suas propriedades antioxidantes estão provavelmente associados ao seu efeito benéfico neste modelo. Também foi verificado o possível efeito protetor do succinobucol, um análogo do PB, sobre a toxicidade induzida pelo 3-NP em preparações mitocondriais de cérebro de ratos in vitro. O probucol e o succinobucol preveniram o estresse oxidativo induzido pelo 3-NP, mas apenas o succinobucol foi capaz de prevenir a disfunção mitocondrial induzida pela toxina. Juntos este resultados sugerem um novo papel para o probucol e seu análogo succinobucol como potenciais agentes neuroprotetores em modelos de DH
A study of the surface finish produced by grinding
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University.A survey of the literature of grinding and surface texture shows the influence of dressing and wear on surfaces involved in the process and the advantages of stylus profilometry for data collection from both grinding wheels and ground surfaces. Statistical analysis is favoured for surface profile characterization and, of the various parameters used, power spectral density alone offers some prospect of effective
comparison between these surfaces. Work on grinding with single crystals of natural corundum was eventually discontinued in favour of experiments with conventional
bonded grinding wheels subjected to a dressing operation and some wear in grinding steel surfaces. Statistical parameters representing the surfaces are computed using data obtained from profilograms. Results in terms of power spectral density are presented showing progressive improvement following upon developments in apparatus and methods which facilitated the use of larger surface profile samples. Transfer functions are used to relate power spectra representing corresponding pairs of surfaces. The significance of power spectral density applied to surface profile characterization is discussed and, in this context, it is suggested that these should be described as variance spectra. Attention is drawn to certain disadvantages of variance spectra
applied to grinding wheel and ground surface profiles. Methods designed to improve presentation of variance spectra lead to development of a proposed new and more suitable spectrum in which density of standard deviation of surface profile
ordinates with respect to frequency is plotted against frequency. Transfer functions calculated from related pairs of these standard deviation spectra show a strong linear correlation with frequency and offer prospects of convenient comparison between the profiles of the various surfaces involved in grinding
