    Get PDF
Background: Inactivity is associated with health challenges, and studies show that many kindergarten children do not meet the recommendations for physical activity. More than 97% of 3-5 year olds in Norway attend kindergarten. Since kindergarten is one of the first learning arenas children encounter in their lives, the kindergarten has a great opportunity to promote good health and play a preventative role for the children. Good habits and the joy of movement are created at a young age, and the framework plan for the kindergartens requires to facilitate physical activity play both inside and outside the kindergarten. Then it is important that the local environment is suitable for physical activity play. Topic: Is the local environment of a selection of the municipal kindergartens in Bydel Bjerke suitable for physical activity play? Method: This thesis is a comparative case study of six kindergartens in Bydel Bjerke. The selected kindergartens were ranked from 1-6 where 6 is the most rural location. The data collection is quantitative using geographic information systems (GIS). The main tool is QGIS and a circular buffer of 200m from the kindergartens property boundary was implemented. To be included, the accessible areas had to be at least 2500m2, and to fulfill the recommendations of the Norwegian Environment Agency, the total area of all available areas had to be at least 5000m2. To look at suitability for physical activity play, the included areas were analysed based on a modified affordance taxonomy consisting of 6 categories. Results: The included kindergartens had available area ranging from 6,754m2 to 60,703m2. Every kindergartens had 1-3 accessible areas in their local environment, which contained 3-6 categories in the modified affordance taxonomy. The kindergartens had from 0m2 to 47 025m2 of accessible green structure. The results show that more accessible area makes the local environment more suitable for physical activity play. In this study more rural kindergarten doesn`t necessary indicate more accessible area and more suitable for physical activity play, although the least suitable is the most urban kindergarten, and the most suitable is the most rural kindergarten. Conclusion: All the kindergartens included in this thesis have sufficient area in their local environment for physical activity play, but it is variable how suitable this area actually is for physical activity play. The kindergarten with the most rural location has the largest available area, and is also best suited for physical activity play. The most urban kindergarten, on the other hand, has the least area and is least suitable for physical activity play

Abstract Background: The climate change contributes to increasing temperature and causes severe heatwaves; at the same time, we see increased urbanization worldwide. Every year many people die from cardiovascular disease (CVD) and respiratory disease (RD), in some places there is increased mortality due to extreme temperatures. The cities must adapt to climate change and prevent the health issues following. In many places nature-based solutions are implemented as climate adaption strategy, where green vegetation contributes to lower temperatures. In Norway we can expect more extreme temperatures in the future. Objective: The aim with this study is to investigate if people living near urban green areas are protected against premature cardiopulmonary mortality in Norway’s capital and biggest city, Oslo. Method: This study has used data from HUBRO cohort (Oslo Health survey), merged with temperature data and NDVI values at individual level. The study period is 1st January 2000 till 31st December 2018. Persons who died from all-cause mortality, ICD-10 code A00-R99 was extracted, it was created groups for CVD and RD mortality for the analysis. The method of case crossover using conditional logistic regression to estimate the effect of daily mean air temperature on cardiopulmonary mortality was used as statistical method. With use of lag days delayed outcome was captured. NDVI was used as an effect modifier, divided by the median, 0.43, in two categories. Both warm and cold effect was measured. Measures of association was produced in odds ratio (OR). Main findings: The total number of participants was 3527 people from the HUBRO cohort who died in Oslo due to natural causes, 1070 people died due to CVD, and 302 due to RD. The analyze gave two statistically significant results: use of 3 lag days on warm effect the OR was 4.92 (95%CI: 1.48-16.4) for RD mortality, and in the interaction analysis CVD mortality had OR 4.82 (95%CI:1.6-14.43) on cold effect in areas with high NDVI. The other results in the interaction analysis indicate people living in areas with high NDVI have reduced risk of premature mortality due to CPD, none of those results showed statistical significance. Conclusion: There was too few participants to get results with good precision. But the result indicates surrounding greenness have impact on CPD mortality in Oslo. There is need for further investigations on the health issues due to climate change in Oslo, and to investigate the use of nature-based solutions as climate adaption strategies to improve the public health in Oslo

Kvinner hadde høyere OR av heteeffekter (respiratorisk dødelighet), mens menn hadde høyere OR av kulde. Background: Climate change is the greatest public health threat of our time. Increasing temperatures may increase mortality related to CRDs, particularly in urban areas. People of lower socioeconomic status may be more vulnerable to temperature related health impacts. In Oslo, there are large social health inequalities, including prevalence of CRDs. The role of socioeconomic conditions on temperature related mortality in Oslo is little explored, and research is needed to develop equitable climate adaptation strategies. Objective: Investigate the association between ambient high and low temperature exposure and cardiorespiratory mortality in Oslo, and how this association may be modified by socioeconomic conditions. Methods: This study used a time-stratified case-crossover design with cohort and -registry based data. Daily mortality and temperature data for the period 2000-2018 were used to model the temperature-mortality association for CVD and respiratory mortality, and household income and education level were used as effect modifiers. I estimated the OR of mortality for cold and heat effects and interaction of effect modifiers using conditional logistic regression and distributed lag non-linear model (DLNM) including various lag-structures. Additional analyses were conducted, stratified by lag-structures, age, sex and seasonality. Results: The results showed no statistically significant association of exposure to extreme cold and hot temperatures on CVD or respiratory mortality except for respiratory mortality when including lag days 0-3. However, the results indicated higher ORs of respiratory mortality from heat effects, while CVD seemed to have higher ORs from cold effects. Females had higher ORs from heat effects (respiratory mortality), while males had higher ORs of mortality from cod effects. No statistically significant effect modification of education or income were found. Though, it indicated a tendency to a trend of increasing risk of CVD mortality from heat effects with lower levels of education. There were similar tendencies for the respiratory mortality, however with extremely wide confidence intervals. Conclusion: Further research on this topic is needed for Oslo, with a larger population sample. Nevertheless, it will be important to consider socioeconomic conditions when developing climate adaptation strategies for Oslo considering the existing and increasing social health inequalities in the population

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
