    «La mujer que manda en casa» de Tirso de Molina: una descripción barroca de la Jezabel bíblica

    La mujer que manda en casa es una obra de multiplicidad renacentista, fruto de las lecturas bíblicas y hagiográficas de Tirso, de las lecciones de psicología de los místicos y de su fascinación por el modelo teatral diseñado por su maestro, Félix Lope de Vega, considerado el creador del teatro nacional español. Entre ellas se encuentran dos de las más importantes características del arte dramático de este autor: su interés por la religión y su gusto por la sátira política, inherente a su alto espíritu crítico y decisivo en el curso de su vida y de su obra. Este artículo, aparte del análisis argumental y estético de la obra, estudia el versionado de la historia de Jezabel, la psicología de los personajes en sus hechos, los elementos bíblicos que el autor conserva, elimina o modifica y sus objetivos en la elección de este tema en el momento de la Contrarreforma.      La mujer que manda en casa is a play of Renaissance multiplicity, a product of Tirso’s biblical and hagiographic readings, of the lessons of the mystics’ psychology and of his fascination with the theatrical model designed by his peer, Felix Lope de Vega, considered the creator of the Spanish national theatre. In it we find two of the greatest characteristics of the dramatic art of this author: his interest in religion and his taste for political satire, inherent in his overly critical spirit something decisive in his life and his work.     El presente trabajo de fin de máster consiste en la traducción, del español al croata, del libro infantil ¡Manda narices! del autor Paco Liván y un análisis, en el que se realizaron los problemas y dificultades de traducción, así como las estrategias que se han seguido para solventarlos. A su vez, este trabajo se inspiró en el proyecto Gender identity: Child readers and library collections (G-BOOK), cuya intención es acercar a los lectores más pequeños a la diversidad y libertad literaria sin estereotipos de género, con lo cual se explicará la conexión con el proyecto y sus múltiples objetivos, como promover una literatura infantil positiva. Por lo tanto, la estructura del trabajo se divide en tres partes principales. En la primera parte teórica se hace introducción a la literatura infantil y juvenil y se desarrolla el tema en el contexto de la traducción literaria. En la segunda parte, la parte práctica, se analiza el texto meta que cuenta con dos versiones – la traducción arcaica y la traducción moderna. Rad se temelji na projektu Gender identity: Child readers and library collections (G-BOOK), čiji je cilj približiti mladim čitateljima književnost koja je raznovrsna, otvorena i bez stereotipa. Shodno tome, predstaviti će se projekt i njegovi višestruki ciljevi poput promicanja dječje književnosti osviještene u smislu rodnih uloga i modela. Stoga je struktura rada podijeljena u tri dijela. U prvom teorijskom dijelu rada, predstavlja se dječja književnost i razvija se tema u kontekstu književnog prevođenja. U praktičnom se dijelu rada analizira ciljni tekst koji se sastoji od arhaične verzije i suvremene verzije prijevoda. Posljednji dio rada uključuje prijevod priče sa španjolskog na hrvatski jezik.The present thesis consists in the translation from Spanish into Croatian of the children's book Manda narices! by the author Paco Liván and an analysis showing the translation problems and difficulties, as well as the strategies that have been employed to solve them. Accordingly, this thesis is based on the Gender identity: Child readers and library collections project (GBOOK), whose intention is to bring young readers closer to open-minded, plural and gender free of stereotypes literary with which the project and its multiple objectives such as promoting positive children's literature will be presented. Therefore, the structure of the work is divided into three main parts. In the first theoretical part, children's literature is introduced and developed in the context of literary translation. In the practical part, both archaic and modern translations are analysed. The last part consists of the translation of the Spanish story into Croatian

    Short-term real-time prediction of total number of reported COVID-19 cases and deaths in South Africa: a data driven approach

    Background: The rising burden of the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic in South Africa has motivated the application of modeling strategies to predict the COVID-19 cases and deaths. Reliable and accurate short and long-term forecasts of COVID-19 cases and deaths, both at the national and provincial level, are a key aspect of the strategy to handle the COVID-19 epidemic in the country. Methods: In this paper we apply the previously validated approach of phenomenological models, fitting several non-linear growth curves (Richards, 3 and 4 parameter logistic, Weibull and Gompertz), to produce short term forecasts of COVID-19 cases and deaths at the national level as well as the provincial level. Using publicly available daily reported cumulative case and death data up until 22 June 2020, we report 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30-day ahead forecasts of cumulative cases and deaths. All predictions are compared to the actual observed values in the forecasting period. Results: We observed that all models for cases provided accurate and similar short-term forecasts for a period of 5 days ahead at the national level, and that the three and four parameter logistic growth models provided more accurate forecasts than that obtained from the Richards model 10 days ahead. However, beyond 10 days all models underestimated the cumulative cases. Our forecasts across the models predict an additional 23,551-26,702 cases in 5 days and an additional 47,449-57,358 cases in 10 days. While the three parameter logistic growth model provided the most accurate forecasts of cumulative deaths within the 10 day period, the Gompertz model was able to better capture the changes in cumulative deaths beyond this period. Our forecasts across the models predict an additional 145-437 COVID-19 deaths in 5 days and an additional 243-947 deaths in 10 days.     Procedural Tree Generation: Compressing 3D tree for faster rendering

    Trees are essential components of both real and digital environments. Therefore, it is important to have 3D models of trees that are of high quality and computationally efficient. One way to achieve this is by compressing a high-quality model using billboard rendering, which involves partitioning the tree into multiple planes to produce a similar result to the original. Our study explores the compression of 3D models using an optimization loop and adapting billboard rendering techniques. We use computer vision primitives to render basic models, which we then optimize by adjusting the texture to resemble the original tree. The models consist of multiple upright planes that are rotated around the central vertical axis of the original tree. We use different optimization functions, such as L1 and L2 losses, to determine the best approach. We can improve the initial models by bounding the billboards and limiting their heights and widths to that of the trees. Additionally, we can use double-sided textures for the billboards to allow more flexibility for optimizing different species of trees. However, optimizing multiple tree types performs differently for each species, leading to improvements that only benefit certain trees in specific scenarios. Using quantitative metrics, we determined which models perform best and how similar they are to the original after training.     Re-authoring life narratives of trauma survivors: Spiritual perspective

    Traditionally, the exploration of the impact of trauma on trauma survivors in South Africa has been focused mainly on the bio-psychosocial aspects. The bio-psychosocial approach recognises that trauma affects people biologically, socially and psychologically. In this article, the author explores a holistic understanding of the effects of trauma on people from communities historically affected by political violence in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Using a participatory action research design (PAR) as a way of working through trauma, a longitudinal study was conducted in Pietermaritzburg from 2009–2013. At the end of the study, life narratives were documented and published. The textual analysis of these life narratives reveals that, besides the bio-psychosocial effects that research participants experienced during and after the trauma, they also sustained moral and spiritual injuries. Trauma took its toll in their lives emotionally, psychologically, spiritually, morally and in their relationships with themselves, others and God. From these findings, the author argues that the bio-psychosocial approach is incomplete for understanding the holistic effects of trauma on the whole person. Therefore, he recommends the integration of the moral and spiritual aspects of trauma to come up with a holistic model of understanding the effects of trauma on traumatised individuals. The holistic model will enhance the treatment, healing and recovery of trauma survivors. This, in turn, will alleviate the severe disruption of many aspects of psychological functioning and well-being of trauma survivors caused by the effects of trauma
