    Query fever is a zoonotic disease caused by Coxiella burnetii. This agent infects any kinds of animal including cattle. In many cases report, there are no clinical signs appear during the infection of C. burnetii. Then, it is also difficult to diagnose this disease. The study about infection of C. burnetii in cattle was carried out from February to October 2013 at Bogor Slaughterhouse. The aim of this study was to know the infection of C. burnetii and compare the histopathological finding of spleen and heart of infected cattle. A total of 50 samples of cattle spleen, heart, liver, kidney, and lung were collected, and processed for immunohistochemical and hematoxyllin and eosin staining. The result of immunohistochemical staining showed 5 samples were immunoreactive to polyclonal rabbit anti-Coxiella burnetii antibody FKH IPB in the spleen, liver, and kidney. The histopathological finding indicated hemosiderin pigment deposits, lymphoid follicle depletion, infiltration of lymphocyte, macrophage, neutrophil, and eosinophil cells, and oedema. No lesion appeared in heart with positive infection of C. burnetii, however myocardial degeneration, myocardial regeneration, and myocardial congestion were found in heart with negative infection of C. burnetii

    Swietenia Mahagoni Jacq yang dikenal dengan mahoni adalah tanaman obat yang banyak digunakan dalam mengobati berbagai penyakit, termasuk diabetes melitus. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengamati gambaran histopatologi pada organ hati dan ginjal tikus model diabetes dengan pemberian ekstrak etanol biji mahoni (Swietenia mahagoni Jacq.). Penelitian ini menggunakan 25 ekor tikus yang dibagi dalam 5 kelompok. Kelompok 1 sebagai kelompok kontrol negatif (K-), nondiabetes melitus (DM), tanpa pemberian ekstrak etanol biji mahoni. Kelompok 2 sebagai kelompok kontrol positif (K+)/kelompok DM tanpa pemberian ekstrak. Kelompok 3 sebagai kelompok DM dengan pemberian ekstrak (EM). Kelompok 4 sebagai kelompok DM dengan pemberian acarbose (KO). Kelompok 5 sebagai kelompok nondiabetes dengan pemberian ekstrak (KE). Pemberian ekstrak etanol biji mahoni dilakukan secara peroral dengan dosis 500 mg/kgBB/hari. Perlakuan DM dibuat dengan menggunakan induksi aloksan (110 mg/kgBB). Perlakuan dilakukan selama 28 hari. Hati dan ginjal di ambil pada akhir perlakuan dengan melakukan anastesi pada tikus. Jaringan kemudian di proses menggunakan standard paraffin embedding method dan pewarnaan Hematoksilin Eosin (HE). Pengamatan histopatologi berdasarkan terjadinya degenerasi hidropis, degenerasi lemak, karyomegali, piknosis, dan nekrosa sel disekitar vena porta sel hepatosit dan sel tubulus proksimal. Hasil menunjukan terjadi kerusakan ringan jaringan hati dan ginjal pada tikus diabetes dengan pemberian ekstrak. Hasil lain juga menunjukan persentase fungsional sitoplasma jaringan hati sebesar 73, 25 % pada tikus diabetes dengan perlakuan ekstrak

    Capsaicin is an active compound grouped in capsaicinoid in pepper plants. Capsaicin has many pharmacologic effect including cluster headcache therapy, postherpetic neuralgia, chronic pain, arthritis, diabeticneuropathic pain, and against a wide variety of tumor and cancer cells. The researcch was conducted to identify toxic effect of stomach and intestine that can be caused by capsaicin administered orally. Twelve mice straint C3H were divided into three groups: groups K1 (control), groups K2 (2 weeks treatment), and groups K3 (4 weeks treatment). Capsaicin was administered perorally for 2 weeks in K2 and 4 weeks in K3. The mice was necropsed, then the stomach and intestine were fixed in Buffer Neutral Formalin (BNF) for histopathological preparation. The results showed that capsaicin causes congestion, infiltration of inflammatory cell, and epithelium desquamation of the stomach and intestines. Based on these results, oral capsaicin is not safe for stomach and intestine

    Query fever is a zoonosis caused by Coxiella burnetii (C. burnetii). The aim of this research was to determine the histopathological changes of spleen of hamster (Mesoscricetus auratus) which were infected by C. burnetii using Haematoxylin-Eosin (HE) and Immunohistochemistry (IHC) methods. This research used 6 hamsters which were devided into two passage. The histopathological examination picture with HE staining of first passage in hamsters showed relatively similar results with those the second passage such as red pulp hemorrhage and infiltration of inflammatory cells. Histopathological observation of spleen from first passage hamster by using IHC staining showed the positivity was unclear compared to the second passage hamster

    This research was aimed to prove the wound healing activity of Piper betle leaves ethanol extract against Staphylococcus aureus infection in rat skin. Various parameters such as pathology anatomy, netrofil presence, and microscopic observation were studied to evaluate the wound healing activity of Piper betle. Nine rats Sprague Dawley strain were used through our the study and each rat was given four treatments. Treatments were control, commercial ointments, akuadest, and Piper betle leaves ethanol extract. The experiment were given for fourteen days. Each of rats was aseptically wounded with four wounds in 1x1 cm2 square shape at the back of rats. Every wound was spilled by Staphylococcus aureus at 1st, 4th, 7th, and 11th day. All data were analyzed with descriptive semiquantitative method. Scoring results show that the first week of wounds treated with piper betle leaves ethanol extract had shown proliferative phase, while the second week treated with betle leaves extract had shown maturation phase.     Probiotik merupakan mikroorganisme hidup yang dapat memberikan efek kesehatan dengan menyeimbangkan mikroba positif usus, serta mengendalikan mikroba patogen pada saluran pencernaan. Probiotik genus Lactobacillus merupakan jenis probiotik yang paling banyak digunakan. Selain uji efektivitas, pengembangan dan penelitian mengenai probiotik perlu dilengkapi dengan bukti dari data klinis dan nonklinis. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengoleksi data nonklinis dengan menguji efektivitas dan toksisitas kandidat probiotik Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus MG 5511 dari susu kuda BIma yang selanjutnya disingkat KRG dalam usus, serta efeknya terhadap mukosa usus. Penelitian di hewan dilakukan dengan memasukkan galur spesifik tersebut dalam kaldu MRS dengan konsentrasi 107 sampai 1010 CFU/mL ke mencit. Parameter yang diamati berupa pengamatan tanda toksik dan klinis, pengamatan berat badan secara harian, gross patologi organ, dan koleksi sampel isi usus untuk mengamati jumlah populasi bakteri yang tumbuh. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, galur murni Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus MG5511 mampu sintas sampai ke saluran pencernaan sampai 14 hari dan termasuk dalam kategori relatif tidak membahayakan berdasarkan hasil uji toksisitas.Probiotics are viable microorganisms that promote health benefits by balancing positive microbes in the gut, and controlling pathogenic microbes in the digestive tract. Probiotic from genus Lactobacillus is the most widely used.  In addition to effectiveness testing, development and research on probiotics need to be supplemented with evidence from clinical and non-clinical data. This study was aimed to collect non-clinical data by examining the effectivity and toxicity of a probiotic candidate Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus MG5511 from BIma horse milk (KRG) in the intestine and their effect on the intestinal mucosa. Animal study was conducted  with administration of the specific strain in MRS broth in 107 to 1010 CFU/mL concentrations to mice. Parameters observed were clinical signs, daily body weight measurement, gross organ pathology, and growth of bacterial populations. Based on the results, the strain Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus MG5511 was able to survive the gastrointestinal tract for 14 days and can be classified as relatively harmless based on the results of toxicity test

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
