Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

No full textNiniejsza rozprawa jest poświęcona zagadnieniu prasy rosyjskiej oraz rosyjskojęzycznej wydawanej na obszarze II Rzeczypospolitej w latach 1918-1939. Zawiera ona wstęp, dwie części (liczące łącznie 10 rozdziałów), zakończenie, bibliografię adnotowaną czasopism, ilustrowany aneks oraz bibliografię. We wstępie zostały omówione cele badawcze, struktura pracy oraz metodologia).W części pierwszej omówiono prasę rosyjską wydawaną w II Rzeczypospolitej. Składa się ona z czterech rozdziałów. W rozdziale pierwszym omówiono tzw. prasę zadrutniczą (przeznaczoną dla jeńców i internowanych rosyjskich w obozach w Polsce w latach 1918-1923). Rozdział drugi poświęcono prasie przeznaczonej dla emigrantów rosyjskich, zaś rozdział trzeci mniejszości rosyjskiej (zamieszkałym w Polsce Rosjanom posiadającym polskie obywatelstwo). Z kolei rozdział czwarty dotyczy prasy w języku rosyjskim wydawanej przez Cerkiew prawosławną w Polsce.W części drugiej omówiono prasę rosyjskojęzyczną wydawaną w II Rzeczypospolitej (gazety i czasopisma w języku rosyjskim, które były w dużym stopniu wydawane przez nie-Rosjan i adresowane do przedstawicieli innych narodowości). W rozdziale piątym została omówiona prasa wydawana przez organizacje komunistyczne działające na obszarze państwa polskiego w omawianym okresie. Kolejny rozdział poświęcono tytułom prasowym przeznaczonym dla zrusyfikowanych Żydów zamieszkujących Polskę. W rozdziale siódmym poruszono kwestię prasy wydawanej przez polskie ugrupowania polityczne. W kolejnym rozdziale z kolei przez przedstawicieli emigracji północno-kaukaskiej oraz kozackiej. W rozdziale dziewiątym omówiono organy prasowe kościołów protestanckich w II Rzeczypospolitej (baptystów, ewangelicznych chrześcijan oraz adwentystów) Zaś ostatni rozdział dotyczy tytułów prasowych propagujących katolicki obrządek bizantyjsko-słowiański (tzw. neounię). W zakończeniu omówiono oraz podsumowano całość zagadnienia.Ponadto praca zawiera bibliografię adnotowaną czasopism (alfabetyczny spis wszystkich opisanych w tekście tytułów prasowych wraz ze skróconym opisem oraz informacją w jakich bibliotekach i archiwach zachowały się ich egzemplarze), ilustrowanym aneksem (zawierającym zdjęcia czołowych rosyjskich dziennikarzy, literatów oraz działaczy, jak również okładki najważniejszych tytułów prasowych omówionych w tekście).This dissertation subjects matter of Russian and Russian-language press edited in the territory of Second Republic of Poland in years 1918-1939. It consists introduction, two parts (including totally 10 chapters), annotate bibliography of periodicals, conclusion, illustrated appendix and bibliography. In introduction were presented research purposes, composition of dissertation and methodology. The topic of first part is Russian press in pre-war Poland. Its including four chapters. First chapter is about press titles intended for Russian POW’s and interned in prisoner-of-war camps in Poland in years 1918-1923. In second chapter was described press intended for Russian emigrants in Poland, and in third for Russian minority (Russians who held polish citizenship). In fourth chapter was described Russian press edited by Polish Orthodox Church. The topic of second part is Russian-language press edited in Second Republic of Poland (newspapers and magazines in Russian language edited mostly by non-Russians and addressed mostly to members of different nationalities). The topic of fifth chapter is press edited by communist organizations which operated in pre-war Poland. Another chapter was devoted to press titles addressed to Russified Jews who live in Poland. Seventh chapter is about Russian-language press titles edited by members of polish political parties. Another chapter describing press titles edited by members of North-Caucasian and Cossack emigration. In ninth chapter were described Russian-language press titles edited by protestant churches in Poland. Last chapter was about press titles which advertised Byzantine-Slavic Catholic Church (neo-union). In conclusion the whole topic was summarized. Additionally, dissertation consists annotate bibliography of periodicals (alphabetical list of all depicted in text press titles with short description and information in which archives and libraries they are kept), illustrated appendix (including photos of most important Russian journalists, writers and activists and covers of most significant Russian magazines and newspapers in Second Republic of Poland)

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
Get PDFWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

We wstępie scharakteryzowano sieć podziemnych drukarni KPZB oraz redakcji, a także nazwiska i pseudonimy działających w nich członków partii. W dalszej części opisano historię grupy rozłamowej (zwanej secesją) oraz wydawanych przez nią organów prasowych, a także historię rozprawienia się z tą grupą przez KC KPZB. Następnie opisano historię kolejnych organów prasowych KC KPZB wydawanych w języku rosyjskim, skład osobowy redakcji, okres wydawania gazet, sposób redagowania, poruszaną na ich łamach tematykę, skalę ich popularności wśród członków partii oraz ocenę ich poziomu merytorycznego przez Komitet Centralny partii.This article presents an overview of the illegal press publications of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Western Belarus (CC CPWB) written partly or entirely in Russian. The article begins by characterising the network of underground printing and editorial offices of the CC CPWB, as well as the names and pseudonyms of the party members active therein. The subsequent section recounts the splinter group (called „secession”) and its own press releases, as well as the aftermath of its conflict with the CC CPWB. And finally, the article describes the different Russian‑language press titles of the CC CPWB, the composition of their editorial boards, their periods of publication, their editing methods, the subjects raised, the scale of their popularity among party members and the substantive evaluation of their work by the Central Committee of the party
