No full textIl recupero del medioevo, specie dell’età longobarda, è un tema emergente tra Otto e Novecento, che ha caratterizzato un acceso dibattito storiografico e politico dalla restaurazione ai decenni postunitari. Opere letterarie, studi storici, restauri monumentali, iniziative museografiche, ecc. ne hanno accompagnato il graduale processo che ha interessato i diversi settori culturali ed artistici, come mostrano i casi della Sagra di San Michele in Val di Susa, del monastero di Santa Giulia di Brescia, del tempietto di Santa Maria in Valle di Cividale del Friuli, del Tesoro di Monza o della chiesa di Santa Maria foris portas di Castelseprio per citare solo alcuni degli esempi maggiori esaminati con originalità nel contributo.The recovery of the Middle Ages, especially the Lombard age, is an emerging theme between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, which characterized a heated historiographical and political debate from the restoration to the post-unification decades. No full textLo snodo tra il XIII e il XIV secolo rappresenta per le strutture edilizie, le forme iconografiche e le immagini del potere a Brescia un momento di grande vivacità e di confronto con le maggiori maestranze artistiche presenti in Italia, anche in relazione al pensiero politico dantesco. In particolare, l’evoluzione istituzionale del comune cittadino nel governo signorile del vescovo Berardo Maggi, trova espressione in opere pubbliche che modificarono l’immagine del potere. Tra queste emblematiche furono la pace del Broletto, il sarcofago del Maggi in Duomo Vecchio e la sua statua per la fontana del convento di Sant’Agostino, monumenti che ebbero un ruolo centrale anche nella definizione dell’identità nazionale di Otto e Novecento.The junction between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries represents for the building structures, iconographic forms and images of power in Brescia a moment of great vivacity and confrontation with the major artistic workers present in Italy, also in relation to Dante's political thought. In particular, the institutional evolution of the common citizen in the stately government of Bishop Berardo Maggi finds expression in public works that changed the image of power. Among these emblematic were the peace of Broletto, the sarcophagus of Maggi in the Old Cathedral and the statue of him for the fountain of the convent of Sant'Agostino, monuments that also played a central role in defining the national identity of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries

Optimizing Real-Time Decision-Making in Sensor Networks
No full textThe rapid integration of digital technologies into physical systems has given rise to cyber-physical systems, where the interaction between the computational and physical components plays a crucial role. This study explores optimal decision-making in event detection and transmission scheduling within cyber-physical systems, emphasizing the crucial aspect of efficient decision-making. We consider the problem of monitoring and reporting about a single event taking place within a finite time window achieving a reward related to the timeliness of the status update. Thus, the objective corresponds to minimizing the age of information between the instant of the event x and the status update time t, with a further penalty for a missed event. The monitoring apparatus decides when to perform the status update without knowing the value of x, but only knowing its statistical distribution. We assume a triangular probability density function for the instant of the event taking place, with a variable average. We provide an analytical derivation of the optimal choice of the status update, highlighting interesting trends, such as the saturation in the value of t as x grows close to the limit of the observation window. This proposed problem and its analytical formalization may serve as a further foundation for the general analysis of optimal monitoring of cyber-physical systems

No full textFitting a polygon to a set of points is a task that finds application in many scientific fields. In particular, in robot-based neurorehabilitation, it would be interesting to retrieve the shape that best fits with the path followed by a patient, and evaluate the performance based on the accuracy of the drawing. However, when dealing with a dataset sampled by a drawn trajectory, the methods proposed by the literature may not be exhaustive. In this work we propose a method to define the distance between a set of points and a polygon, which is used as cost function of a Genetic Algorithm to solve the polygon fitting problem. This method involves a novel space separation metrics to retrieve the correct polygon edge to be compared with each point of the set, featuring linear time complexity. We compared the proposed approach with the metrics known in the literature, finding that our method performs significantly better in retrieving the original polygon. Finally, we present a robot-based rehabilitation application in which the proposed method is used to evaluate the performance of a group of subjects. The achievements of twenty healthy subjects were compared with three stroke patients. Results emphasize significant differences between the two categories of subjects, proving that the proposed algorithm can quantitatively determine the degree of impairment of a stroke survivor and be used in the future as reference for monitoring and enhancing the efficiency of robot-based therapies
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
