    No full text

The Strategic Approaches of Delivering Radical Innovations - A Case Study at F.H. Bertling AB

    No full text
Title: Innovation strategy at F.H. Bertling AB Authors: Matilda Ström and Anna Maria Pejic Supervisor: Madeleine Englund and Rick Middel Date: 2022-06-03 It has been seen how digitalization has shifted consumer behaviors and forced industries to follow the path of transformation. Traditional industries, like freight forwarding firms, have experienced challenges in doing so. It has been seen how these firms have a tendency to miss out being entrepreneurial and innovative, which puts them at risk of becoming irrelevant. This research had its aim to investigate what strategic approaches F.H. Bertling AB, being in this position, should implement to increase radical innovations, and mitigate the risk of being irrelevant. Conducting this research the purpose was to outline strategic approaches for how Bertling should work towards the strategic goal of producing radical innovations. On the basis of a theoretical framework, consisting of previous research, and a mixed-method empirical case study, the authors were able to answer the following research question: What strategic approaches should Bertling implement in order to achieve their strategic goal of producing radical innovations?. The research resulted in several strategic approaches F.H. Bertling AB should implement in order to produce radical innovations. It can be concluded that implementing the suggested strategic approaches will help F.H. Bertling AB to deliver radical innovations. The most crucial part of the strategic approach will be to enable more time for employees to work with developing radical innovations

Richardson, Barbauld, and the construction of an early modern fan club

MPhilMuch has been written about the life and long works of the eighteenth century epistolary novelist, Samuel Richardson, but the prospect of his position as the first celebrity novelist – responsible for courting his own fame as well as initiating his own fan club – has largely been ignored. The body of manuscripts housed at the National Art Library in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London provides the modern scholar with evidence of the skeletal beginnings of an early fan club. This thesis aims to show how these manuscripts were turned into a saleable commodity by the publisher and entrepreneur Richard Phillips, while under the guiding hand of another, slightly later, literary celebrity, Anna Laetitia Barbauld. In order to restore Richardson’s reputation amongst a new nineteenth century audience, Barbauld was required to construct her own idea of him as an eighteenth century celebrity author, and in doing so the insecurities of a self-professed, apparently diffident man, are revealed. Barbauld’s capacious, but heavily edited selection of letters is analyzed in this thesis, providing ample evidence that Richardson’s correspondents were more than just eager letter writers. By using Barbauld’s biography of Richardson this thesis aims to show how she manipulates the genre of life writing in her construction of him. This thesis offers an alternative reading of how the Richardson manuscripts are viewed, redefining them as not simply a collection of letters, but as a collective entity, deliberately selected and archived as evidence of an early modern fan club, and its celebrity managing director

Childbearing and psycho-social work life conditions in Sweden 1991-2000

In Sweden, a dramatic fall in fertility coincided with recession and high unemployment during the 1990s. Recent research has shown that the precarious labor market has been one factor contributing to women postponing family formation. Studies have also shown that during the 1990s, the degree of negative psycho-social stress in work life increased in certain trades (care and education, and commerce) which are dominated by female employees. In the present paper, I focus on the interaction between psycho-social work conditions as defined by Robert Karasek and the likelihood of childbearing. As data material, the Swedish Level of Living Surveys of 1991 and 2000 are used. The research questions are: (1) Does job strain affect the likelihood of having the first, second and third child? Are there any differences between women and men? (2) Are there any differences in the likelihood of having children between individuals employed in trades characterized by high levels of jobs strain vs low levels of job strain? Are there any differences between men and women? The results indicate that women working in high-strain jobs have a lower likelihood of having the first child compared with women working in low-strain jobs, even when several important factors are controlled for. No significant associations between job strain and the timing of the second and third child are found for women. For men, no significant associations between job strain and the births of children are found, at least not when relevant controls are made. Analyses of childbearing and trade indicate that women working in commerce are more likely to have their first child compared with women working in manufacturing. For men, the results indicated that those working in public service are more likely to enter fatherhood compared with men working in manufacturing.childbearing; psycho-social work life conditions; fertility - recession

BACHELOR’S THESIS Author: Anna Ström, Emelie Nygård-Snellman & Pernilla Sundström Degree Programme: Degree Programme in Social Services, Turku Title: The Employment Market for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities - How to Support Employers in the Hiring Process/ Arbetsmarknaden för personer med intellektuell funktionsnedsättning - Hur stöda arbetsgivaren vid anställning _________________________________________________________________________ Date: 9.5.2025 Number of pages: 41 Appendices: 3 _________________________________________________________________________ Abstract In Finland, there are approximately 30,000 people of working age with intellectual disabilities, yet few have paid employment despite having education and a willingness to work. This thesis examines employers' attitudes towards hiring individuals with intellectual disabilities and the factors influencing their recruitment decisions, focusing on the questions: Why do so few employers hire people with intellectual disabilities? And How can employers be supported in hiring individuals with intellectual disabilities? The aim of this study was to improve the conditions for employers to hire individuals with intellectual disabilities, thereby increasing their opportunities to participate in the labor market. The study was based on a literature review and an analysis of employers' experiences and perceptions. Legislation and support measures affecting employment decisions were reviewed and human centered design was used as a model, focusing on both employers and individuals with intellectual disabilities. The results indicate that employers' knowledge and attitudes are crucial for recruitment and that many lack information about available support and accommodation options. Financial incentives, clear support structures, and positive experiences from previous hires can enhance labor market inclusion. Our goal is that the informational brochure developed in this project will help bridge knowledge gaps and provide employers with practical tools to create a more inclusive labor market, enabling more individuals with intellectual disabilities to access paid employment. _________________________________________________________________________ Language: Swedish Key words: Intellectual Disability, Employment, Service design, Labor market, Attitudes
