The Steven-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) is a rare immune complex mediated hypersensitivity condition. Here we report the case of Steven-Johnson Syndrome due to the co-administration of aceclofenac and cefixime. NSAIDs are the rare type of medication that causes SJS and cefixime is a traditional medication that causes the condition. A 22- years-old patient was admitted in the hospital with a complaint of fever for 15 days and he was treated by giving aceclofenac, cefixime and general symptomatic treatment. On the 4th day of treatment erythromatous patches were observed throughout the body. Laboratory investigations were performed and the case was identified as Steven-Johnson Syndrome. The treatment was withdrawn and he was administered with steroids, amoxicillin, metronidazole and general symptomatic treatment. The patient has recovered after a week

Ulcerative vesiculobullous disorders are common in Dermatology and Oral Medicine. Diagnosis of these conditions is pretty effortless if they give a classic appearance as described in the literature. Steven Johnson syndrome is one such condition which is a type of erythema multiforme. It is a disorder involving mucous membrane, skin and even the multiple organs in severe form. Multiple etiologies persist so be acquainted with the cause and prohibit the root is crucial. But still drugs are considered to be common cause. Early management is vital as complications are serious for this condition even leading to death. We hereby report a typical case with classic appearance of Steven Johnson syndrome

Steven-Johnson syndrome is rare occurance. In children, the incidence of Steven Johnson Syndrome (SJS) is lower than adults. Steven Johnson Syndrome is often caused by a hypersensitivity reaction to drugs, including carbamazepine. Correct and appropriate therapy management will support the improvement of conditions and reduce mortalit

ABSTRACT Tribulus terrestris is an ayurvedic medication which is traditionally used because of its aphrodisiac and antiurolithiatic activities with complete inhibition of stone formation. Steven-Johnson syndrome is a cytotoxic immune reaction to drugs and infections. This is a case report of Tribulus terrestris induced Steven-Johnson syndrome in geriatric women. KEYWORDS: Tribulus terrestris, Steven-Johnson syndrome, Adverse drug reaction

Acetaminophen induced Steven Johnson syndrome-toxic epidermal necrolysis overlap

Steven Johnson Syndrome and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis are rare but severe form of hypersensitivity inflammatory reactions to multiple offending agents including drugs. Acetaminophen is extensively used due to its analgesic and anti-pyretic properties. It is rendered to be relatively safe, with hepatotoxicity considered to be the major adverse effect. However, very few cases of Steven Johnson Syndrome and Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis have been reported with acetaminophen usage in the past. We present the case of a 40 years old lady who developed an overlap of the two condition after taking several doses of acetaminophen for fever. She presented with widespread maculopapular rash, stinging in the eyes, oral mucosal ulcerations and high grade fever. She was successfully treated with corticosteroid therapy along with the supportive treatment. This case addresses the fact, that severe hypersensitivity reactions can occur with acetaminophen which can be potentially life threatening

Corneal descemetocele following Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy in a patient with Steven Johnson syndrome: A case report

    No full text
Purpose: To report a challenging case of corneal descemetocele following Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy for posterior capsule opacification in a patient with Steven Johnson syndrome (SJS). Observations: A single-eye 52 year-old man, with a history of Steven Johnson syndrome, presented with severe eye pain and profound vision reduction in his left eye two days after undergoing Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy using the standard Abraham contact lens. A corneal descemetocele was identified and subsequently confirmed by anterior segment optical coherence tomography. He was promptly treated with the application of a therapeutic contact lens and sustained antibiotic regimen (preservative-free fluoroquinolone drops every 4 hours for 6 weeks) until healing of the corneal epithelium. Throughout the following eight weeks AS-OCT showed favorable anatomical and functional outcomes, achieving a substantial spontaneous healing. Conclusions and Importance: Corneal descemetocele may occur after Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy in patients with Steven Johnson syndrome. This case strengthens the critical importance of a careful preoperative assessment and meticulous postoperative management in high-risk patients, such as those with Steven Johnson syndrome, even after seemingly routine and safe ophthalmic procedures

Background: Steven-Johnson syndrome is a hypersensitivity disease was mediated by immune complexes caused by some drugs or infections. The incidence of Stevens-Johnson syndrome induced by drug allergy is increasing in Indonesia. Cefadroxil is a high risk Stevens-Johnson syndrome cause. Objective: To determine association between history of cefadroxil with the occurrence of Steven-Johnson syndrome at RSU dr.Soedarso Pontianak in period 2007- 2010.Method: This is an analytic observational with retrospective study. Ninety five samples were participated. Data was processed by chi square test.Result: Based on the history of the use of cefadroxil, 14 people were diagnosed with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and 18 people were diagnosed with other forms of Drug Eruption, while based on a history of drug use other types, 26 people were diagnosed with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome and 37 people were diagnosed Drug Eruption. The results show the value of p = 0.817, PR = 1,060, 95% confidence interval = 0.649 to 1.732.Conclusion: There is no significant association between history of consuming cefadroxil and Steven-Johnson syndrome occurrence. Keywords: Steven-Johnson syndrome cefadroxil RSU dr.Soedarso 2007-201
