A New 4-DOF fully parallel robot with decoupled rotation for five-axis micromachining applications

    No full text
We present a novel 4-DOF (degrees of freedom) parallel robot designed for five-axis micromachining applications. Two of its five telescoping legs operate simultaneously, thus acting as an extensible parallelogram linkage, and in conjunction with two other legs control the position of the tooltip. The fifth leg controls the tilt of the end-effector (a spindle), while a turntable fixed at the base of the robot controls the swivel of the workpiece. The robot is capable of tilting its end-effector up to 90 deg, for any tooltip position. In this paper, we study the mobility of the new parallel kinematic machine (PKM), describe its inverse and direct kinematic models, then study its singularities, and analyze its workspace. Finally, we propose a potential mechanical design for this PKM utilizing telescopic actuators as well as the procedure for optimizing it. In addition, we discuss the possibility of using constant-length legs and base-mounted linear actuators in order to increase the volume of the workspace

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

FRACTAL DIMENSION AND VARIANT ANATOMY OF THE WHITE MATTER OF THE HUMAN CEREBELLAR HEMISPHERES Natalya Ivanivna Maryenko, Olexander Yuriyovych Stepanenko Kharkiv National Medical University, Department of Histology, Cytology and Embryology, Kharkiv, Ukraine Correspondence address: Ukraine, 61022, Kharkiv, Nauky Avenue, 4. Kharkiv National Medical University, Department of Histology, Cytology and Embryology Abstract Introduction. Morphological changes of the cerebellar lobules are found in many congenital and acquired diseases of the cerebellum, but the information on the normal structure of the cerebellar lobules do not take into account the peculiarities of individual anatomical variability, sex and age characteristics. Aim – to investigate anatomical variability and fractal dimension of the white matter of the human cerebellar hemispheres. Material and methods. The study involved 100 cerebella of people of both sexes, who died of causes unrelated to brain pathology (20–99 years old). Parasagittal sections of the cerebellar hemispheres were investigated. Results. On parasagittal sections number of main branches of white matter is very varied and depends on peculiarities of structure of the hemispheric lobules. It was found that there is individual variability of the structure of the human cerebellar hemispheres, namely white matter branching features. We described variants of the branching of the main branches of white matter of the human cerebellar hemispheres. Fractal dimension of the white matter was determined. The white matter of the cerebellum is typical quasi-fractal structure that can be objectively described using fractal dimension. Fractal index of the white matter of the cerebellar hemispheres varies from 1.119 to 1.519; average fractal index is 1.370. Fractal analysis can be used as an objective morphometric criterion for the diagnosis of various diseases of the cerebellum and other structures of the central nervous system. Conclusions. Described variants of the cerebellar lobules and fractal dimension can be used as criteria for modern diagnostic imaging techniques for the diagnosis of various diseases of the CNS. The data can be used as the basis for atlases of serial sections of the cerebellum. Key words: human, cerebellum, fractal dimension, white matter, anatomical variabilit

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

Stepanenko O. Reconciliation of the Parties as a Way to Solve the Criminal-Legal Conflict / O. Stepanenko, A. Stepanenko, A. Israielian // Amazonia Investiga. – Vol. 9. - Issue 28. – Editorial Primmate S. A. S., 2020. – P. ‏ 288-295.The article explores the problem of resolving a criminal-legal conflict (which involves a person who has committed a socially dangerous act) through reconciliation. The relevance of the research topic is due to the fact that the legal conflict requires a binding solution, as it affects the most important social values. The purpose of this article is to disclose the nature and importance of reconciliation as a way of resolving a criminal-legal conflict. The authors used an analysis method, a synthesis method, a logical method, a historical method, and a formal legal method to write this article. According to the results of the study, the authors concluded that the application of criminal liability for reconciliation of the perpetrator with the victim is effective for all parties to the criminal-legal conflict. Moreover, for the state as a party to the criminal-legal conflict, such a way of resolving, is also effective because of the fact that the achievement of the tasks of criminal responsibility with the minimum cost of resources is the restoration of the rights of the victim.
