Codices Palatini latini – Französische Handschriften

    No full text
Here you can find the descriptions of the French Palatine manuscripts as published in the manuscripts catalog "Die französischen Handschriften der Codices Palatini Latini in der Vatikanischen Bibliothek (Pal. lat. 1957–1973, 1983–1984, 1988–1992, 1995) ", beschrieben von Uli Steiger und Thorsten Huthwelker, Heidelberg 2025 (Kataloge der Universitätsbibliothek Heidelberg 14). The description for each manuscript was subsequently recorded as TEI-XML file by XML encoding in accordance with TEI-P5 using GND standard vocabulary. These TEI files follow an outdated TEI schema originally developed at the Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel and contain some ad hoc solutions which were chosen pragmatically in Heidelberg and which do not always comply with the TEI Guidelines. A future migration of the dataset into a fully TEI-compliant format is considered as desirable

THE FAMOUS ODI CULTURAL FESTIVAL IN THE ANCIENT KINGDOM OF ULI

    No full text
The paper is on the “Odi” cultural festival of the ancient Uli kingdom. This festival is a cultural celebration that is as old as the town of Uli itself. Odi festival was given its preeminence because of its cultural importance to the people of Uli. It was a traditional and cultural festival celebrated to offer thanksgiving and honour to the great goddess of Atammiri River for the protection of the lives and property of community members. “Odi” was to be celebrated once every three years in Uli. It was a week-long activity which included Ibeyi Nzu, Itipia Nzu, Igbo Ehi Atammiri, Ugaliga Nzu, Icho mma anu ahu, Iti Nmanwu an Igba egwu. Although the above activities are in Igbo language, the present paper clearly explains what each represents to the understanding of the non-Igbo people who may come across and become interested in reading it. The author chooses to write about this festival because it has not been widely given enough academic publicity it deserves. This is in fact the first attempt to write the “Odi” festival for the outside world to read. The first ever major attempt was purely written in the Igbo language, titled “EMUME IGBA ODI N’ULI NKE DI OKPURU OCHICHI IME OBODO IHIALA,” meaning in English, the celebration of Odi in Uli in Ihiala Local Government Area. This Igbo version was written by Ojimba Glady Nnenna and published in 1991 by Alvana Press Owerri, Imo state. Therefore, this English language version will be significant and relevant not only to the people of the ancient Uli but to the generality of the people who are more interested in the culture and traditions of the Nigerian people. It is very important to note that this English version is not anywhere a translation of the Igbo version but should be regarded as a well-researched paper from the author and purely virgin as nowhere in the history of Nigeria can any come across any piece writtenabout “Odi festival in Uli.”

    No full text
The thesis is a response to critics who interpreted Uli as being too worldly. Specifically, it attempts to show, by way of exploring the role of a particular category of virtues present in the novel, how these critics misunderstood the novel as well as the intent of the author

Siegfried In The Interpretations Of The German Film Directors Of The Early 20th – Early 21st Century (Fritz Lang's "The Nibelungs" And Uli Edel`S "Ring Of The Nibelungs")

    No full text
Film experts and art historians studied German cinema in detail, however, movies based on “The Song of the Nibelungs” as well as on the German and Scandinavian heroic epic have not yet been investigated by means of modern interdisciplinary approaches. The author pays attention to Siegfried, one of the most important heroes of the German and Scandinavian epic, according to Fritz Lang's (1890 – 1976) and Uli Edel`s (1947) interpretations, divided by almost a century (1924 and 2004). The author analyzes various means of expression: visuality, scenery, actor's performance, credits/dialogues. As far as the Lang's movie is concerned, he concludes that one can interpret the figure of Sigfried on two levels of interpretation. The first is the visual one which includes the actor's performance and the work of support staff (e.g. dress makers, set dressers). It describes him as an extraordinary strong hero. The second one is the semantic level which is formed of credits and music. It creates a myth about Siegfried as the national hero. In Edel's movie, the dialogues between heroes and actor's performance are used as the main means of expression. In Lang’s interpretation, Siegfried is described as the neo-romantic superhero, the person possessing a special force. Uli Edel’s Siegfried obtains dialectic nature – he is the prince, the king, and he is also the commoner; courageous soldier, dragon slayer, and obedient vassal, servant; son of Christian parents, pagan's stepson. The author assumes that Fritz Lang and Uli Edel reacted to inquiries of the time. In the 1920s, Germany suffered a difficult period between the two World Wars, the German people were oppressed by military reparations. Powerful Siegfried, as the national hero and embodiment of the German people, was urged to remind Germans of their great heroic past, to return their self-confidence to them. In our era of globalization and multiculturalism, the idea of association, peaceful co-existence of various ideas and religions was embodied in Siegfried.</jats:p
