Bridging the Gap Between Theory and Practice : Experiences from Statistics Sweden in Applying SDC Methodology
Statistics Sweden has identified a need to increase the level of knowl-edge in the SDC field among methodologists and also to develop a unified view and strategy on application of SDC methodology. A project was thus initiated with the goal to spread knowledge but also to collate current practices and ex-periences within the agency. The project resulted in a course on SDC given at Statistics Sweden and this paper provides a brief first report on the work so far, reviewing the background and describing the course and possible future activities. Furthermore, several practical examples were discussed during the course, two of which are briefly described here; the Industrial production index and Structure of wages and earnings in the private sector
Towards a methodology for statistical disclosure control
A seminal article in statistical disclosure limitation that is widely cited but nearly impossible to read due to a decision by Statistics Sweden to rename the journal as Journal of Official Statistics, and to begin curation in 1985. Editing statistical records by neural networks

Since the introduction of computers in statistical processing, development and use of automated editing have been important objectives. In this article, editing is reformulated as a neural network problem. The use of such a network is demonstrated and a preliminary evaluation is presented

Inflation Measurement with Scanner Data and an Ever‑Changing Fixed Basket
Statistics Sweden introduced scanner data into parts of the consumer price index several years ago, with the concern to ensure comparability over time and between countries. In this article, we discuss the issue of preserving the fixed basket approach and whether the traditional manual item replacement strategy, with quality and quantity adjustments, is still a relevant method to ensure comparability despite the change in data collection mode and extensiveness of data. Biases from improper quantity adjustments are discussed and illustrated through numeric examples based on real changes in the Swedish market of daily necessity products. Manual adjustments of quality and quantity are implemented by following a small random sample of representative items, i. e. a fixed basket, which therefore leads to imprecision or variance in the consumer price index. This may be a questionable approach given the availability of census-like scanner data, thus the bias-variance trade-off is addressed. The sample size related variance is estimated through a jackknife method and contrasted with quality/quantity adjustments.Tongur Can. Uncertainty analysis in statistical matching
Among the goals of statistical matching, a very important one is the estimation of the joint distribution of variables not jointly observed in a sample survey but separately available from independent sample surveys. The absence of joint information on the variables of interest leads to uncertainty about the data generating model. The present article reviews the concept of uncertainty in statistical matching and how to measure it by providing a unified framework for the parametric and nonparametric setting. Furthermore, the reduction of uncertainty due to the introduction of logical constraints is investigated and a simulation experiment is performed. © Statistics Sweden
