Real-Time Angle-of-Arrival Estimation through phase interferometry: theory, techniques, applications, and hardware implementation
No full textQuesta tesi si concentra sullo studio e l’implementazione di metodi di stima dell’Angolo di Arrivo (AoA) in tempo reale. La stima AoA è un approccio di localizzazione che sfrutta le proprietà di propagazione dei segnali radio. Vengono analizzate le tecniche classiche per la localizzazione, con un confronto dei loro vantaggi e svantaggi. Vengono presentati i metodi per eseguire la stima AoA e la loro potenziale implementazione hardware in architetture hardware specializzate. L’interferometria di fase viene introdotta come un metodo a basso impatto in termini di risorse per stimare gli AoA. Viene descritto un metodo per stimare l’AoA utilizzando un approccio ispirato alla demodulazione coerente I/Q, anche in presenza di sorgenti multiple. Vengono affrontati anche i problemi di integrità di fase, con la proposta di un metodo per depurare i risultati finali della stima nel caso sia presente mutuo accopiamento tra gli elementi radianti e artefatti di realizzazione circuitali. Il nucleo di questo lavoro è la proposta di una nuova architettura digitale per la stima AoA in tempo reale basata sull’interferometria di fase eseguita interamente in hardware. Il prototipo di questa architettura è stato sintetizzato su un FPGA ed è stato utilizzato come base per un sistema di posizionamento coarse basato sulla stima AoA dei segnali delle opportunità dai satelliti in orbita terrestre bassa (LEO).This thesis focuses on the study and deployment of real-time Angle-of-Arrival (AoA) estimation methods. AoA estimation is a localization approach that exploits the propagation properties of radio signals. The classical techniques for localization are analyzed, with a comparison of their advantages and disadvantages. The methods for performing AoA estimation and their potential hardware implementation in specialized hardware architectures are presented. Phase interferometry is introduced as a lightweight way to estimate AoAs. A method for estimating AoA using an approach inspired by I/Q coherent demodulation is detailed, including in the presence of multiple sources. Phase integrity issues are also addressed, with the proposal of a method for unbiasing the final estimation results in the presence of mutual coupling and realization artifacts. The core of this work is the proposal of a novel digital architecture for real-time AoA estimation based on phase interferometry performed entirely in hardware. The prototype of this architecture was synthesized on a FPGA and used as the foundation for a coarse positioning system based on the AoA estimation of signals of opportunity from Low-Earth Orbit satellites

Detta ämnesfördjupande arbete har utförts enligt en deduktiv metod och en diskussion förs angående arbetets validitet och reliabilitet. Teori: Den teoretiska referensramen behandlar relevant teori gällande investeringar och uppföljning, vidare behandlas även kortfattat de metoder som används för att bedöma investeringars lönsamhet på Volvo Construction Equipment i Braås. Empiri: Det empiriska avsnittet redovisar data från de semistrukturerade intervjuerna som fördes med personal på anläggningen i Braås. Dessa bestod av ekonomichefen, controllern samt två projektledare. Slutsats: Resultaten som presenteras behandlar komplexiteten med att följa upp investeringar enligt dess faktiska kassaflöden och förkastar därmed en sådan uppföljning för Volvo Construction Equipment i Bråas. Vidare presenteras två konkreta förslag över hur rutiner och metoder för investeringar givet anläggningens förutsättningar kan organiseras. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

A man, burning : communicative suffering and the ethics of images
No full textThis paper assumes a relationship among life, death and power in order to underline the following: under certain conditions, self-sacrifice—or the form of death broadly associated with self-immolation—has the power to mobilise political life. This hypothesis has been theoretically supported by Biggs’ and Bradatan’s work on self-immolation at large, as well as Murray’s work on thanatopolitics and Mbembe’s thesis on necropolitics. On these grounds I argue that photographic imagery of people who set themselves on fire can perform a political function; such a performance is feasible insofar as the visibility of their ‘communicative suffering’ in the process, and not death itself, relies upon some constructive (‘positive’) instead of merely destructive (‘negative’) aspects of human mortality. Whether a desired (or sometimes undesired) transformation may occur depends upon the ethics of images: their capacity to implicate viewers into a common cause must invoke a ‘responsive gaze’: not only in terms of survivors’ sense of empathy but, first and foremost, guilt.peer-reviewe
