No full text2015 Spring.Colorado State University Art and Art History Department capstone project.Capstone contains the artist's statement, a list of works, and images of works.The artist's statement: I am a mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend - but most of all I am a graphic designer. My work as a graphic designer, has really defined the person I am. Designing is something that is inside of me. Good design has always been something that I have been drawn too. I've always enjoyed noticing different logos and storefront designs for businesses. I grab mailers as they come in and I am enveloped in the design. I am attracted to good design within so many things; including clothing, labels on drinks and also food items. Sometimes I even pick the ones that I liked the best based on that design. (Not always the best rule of thumb!) Design is all around us - in and on everything, and my design is a culmination of years of absorbing those wonderful pieces and emotions. I am modern and classic at the same time. I can produce vintage designs, organic pieces, and sometimes like to air on the side of grunge. I relish in making announcements or invitations, I love branding a new client or rebranding an old, and I thoroughly enjoy working on marketing and advertising. I am both humbled and grateful when I see something that I have accomplished be published. My work is constantly evolving, and I believe this has to do with my ever-changing life and learning from individuals and experiences, and my eye for good design that is all around. A multi-stage genome-wide association study of bladder cancer identifies multiple susceptibility loci.
No full textWe conducted a multi-stage, genome-wide association study of bladder cancer with a primary scan of 591,637 SNPs in 3,532 affected individuals (cases) and 5,120 controls of European descent from five studies followed by a replication strategy, which included 8,382 cases and 48,275 controls from 16 studies. In a combined analysis, we identified three new regions associated with bladder cancer on chromosomes 22q13.1, 19q12 and 2q37.1: rs1014971, (P = 8 × 10⁻¹²) maps to a non-genic region of chromosome 22q13.1, rs8102137 (P = 2 × 10⁻¹¹) on 19q12 maps to CCNE1 and rs11892031 (P = 1 × 10⁻⁷) maps to the UGT1A cluster on 2q37.1. We confirmed four previously identified genome-wide associations on chromosomes 3q28, 4p16.3, 8q24.21 and 8q24.3, validated previous candidate associations for the GSTM1 deletion (P = 4 × 10⁻¹¹) and a tag SNP for NAT2 acetylation status (P = 4 × 10⁻¹¹), and found interactions with smoking in both regions. Our findings on common variants associated with bladder cancer risk should provide new insights into the mechanisms of carcinogenesis

When he finally read his first Philip K. Dick novel, while researching for his recent book The Devil Notebooks , it prompted a prolonged immersion in Dicks writing as well as a recognition of Rickelss own long-documented intellectual pursuits. Measuring Remoteness Using a Data-Driven Approach

Such partition is typically determined by subjective thresholds for a few variables, such as access to transportation and local population size, leaving aside relevant factors despite data availability. We propose to measure ‘remoteness’ by mapping a comprehensive set of covariates onto a scalar, and define an objective score of remoteness using a standard selection model. We apply the proposed method to data from Taiwanese public elementary schools. Our method replaces 35% and 47% respectively of the current official list of ‘remote’ and ‘extra-remote’ campuses, shifting the remoteness designation to those furthest from train stations, having the highest teacher vacancy percentages, and located in the least populous areas with the least well-educated populations. The campus- and district-level variables used are publicly available and periodically updated in most advanced economies, and the statistical model can be easily implemented.technical repor

Physicians Treating Physicians at the End of Life: The Relational Advantage in Treatment Choice

To address potential issues of patient selection, we compare treatment intensity between physician- versus nonphysician-patients attended by the same doctor in the same hospital, and control for patients previous choices of doctors. To identify the relational effect, we further compare the impacts of physician-patients specializing in the same area as their attending doctors versus those in different areas.
