Altiero Spinelli e i movimenti per l’unità europea
Within the celebrations of the hundredth anniversary of the birth, the book studies the relationship between Spinelli and movements, associations, and men that fought in the post war period to the European unification. It is an impressive network of interpersonal connections, arising from the breadth and the duration of such efforts for Europe, which puts Spinelli at the centre of the process of unification of the Continent after World War II.
In the volume edited by Daniela Preda, the editor has published a critical introduction and a specific article on “The Congress of the European People”. It is a popular campaign, following the example of the Indian Congress of Gandhi, initiated by Spinelli, in collaboration with Mario Albertini, in Europe in 1957 and ended in the early Sixties. The aim of the campaign was the mobilization of all forces pro-Europe and the convening of a European Constituent Assembly
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
The unseen effect of pesticides: The impact on phytobiota structure and functions
In the last years, the diffusion and implementation of next-generation sequencing and the reduction of costs raised the interest in phytyobiome studies allowing to dissect the ecological interactions regulating the holobiont. Indeed, crop plants are associated with a wide diversity of microorganisms in all their parts. Crop microbiota influences plant phenotype, growth, yield and quality by contributing to plant resistance toward diseases, plant adaptation to abiotic stresses, and plant nutrition. The association between terrestrial plants and microbes developed at least 460 million years ago, as suggested by the fossil evidence of the earliest land plants, indicating the essential role of microbes for plants. Recent studies indicate that plants actively recruit beneficial microorganisms to facilitate their adaptation to environmental conditions. Cultivation methods and disease control measures can influence plant microbiome structure and functions. Both pesticide and biological control agent applications may alter the biodiversity inside the phytobiota and suppress beneficial functions. Nonetheless, to date, the effects of disease control measures on phytobiota and their possible side consequences on plant growth, crop productivity and quality remain a neglected field of study. The present work summarizes the known effects on phytobiota providing evidence about the role of plant microbial community in determining the overall efficacy of the applied control measure and suggests that future studies on plant disease control consider also the microbe-mediated effects on plant fitness
Multilingualism constitutes an urgent objective for education, which needs to involve teachers and researchers at all levels if we are to promote effective and autonomous learning in the young. Like Daniela Zorzi, the author considers herself a socially engaged linguist, and in memory of her friend’s work, offers a reflection on the key roles of languages and cultures and of multilingualism for professional success and social welfare today

Promoting Strawberry (<i>Fragaria</i> × <i>ananassa</i>) Stress Resistance, Growth, and Yield Using Native Bacterial Biostimulants
Strawberry production is challenged by several abiotic and biotic stresses, such as drought, soil salinity, and the angular leaf spot (ALS) disease caused by Xanthomonas fragariae. In recent decades, the development of commercial products containing combinations of different Plant-Growth-Promoting (PGP) microorganisms has been one of the main focuses of agricultural research. However, their results are often erratic depending on crop species, environmental conditions, and competition among the different strains or indigenous plant microbiota. The use of beneficial microorganisms selected from the crop-specific microbiota may help overcome this limitation, promoting their utilization for sustainable agriculture. The culturable bacteriota of strawberry plants was screened to identify PGP activities in vitro. Bacterial isolates were tested in vivo on strawberry plants in both optimal and stress (X. fragariae infection or salinity) conditions, allowing the selection of strains of Pseudomonas fluorescens, Stenotrophomonas rhizophila, and Agrobacterium rubi whose application showed a significant increase in plant growth and fruit production (up to seven-fold), even under stress conditions, and the ability to control ALS by over 50%. Potential synergistic effects among PGP isolates were tested by coordinated inoculation. However, plant growth and fruit quality were not promoted, except for fruit weight and size, by coordinate inoculation in comparison to m23 and m27 single-strain treatment
Reclamações ambientais em Aveiro, Portugal: atores, preocupações, padrão territorial e resoluções
This paper presents an environmental diagnosis based on public complaints on environmental
issues submitted to the Environmental Department of the Aveiro City Council, Portugal, between
2000 and 2005. It discusses the potential influences of these in local environmental planning
and governance. The paper has been organised into five sections. The first of these introduces
the study. The second section focuses on the conceptual approaches relating to environmental
grassroots movements, the main actors involved in these movements and the role played by
local government. It also contains a brief review of the most recent urban environmental
quality challenges in the European context together with a description of the main features of
the associated political and legal framework in Portugal. The third section describes the case
study and the methodology used. The results of the empirical study are detailed in the fourth
section. The final section critically analyses these results with emphases on the temporal
evolution of the submission of complaints, the actors involved, the local environmental problems
and their associated spatial pattern as well as the responses given by the City Council. This
information may then be used to provide a useful indicator for the perception of environmental
quality as well as a credible instrument for the visualisation and evaluation of local performance
in terms of environmental planning and management.AlBan Programme - n. E05M053040B
Jak rozumieć „historyczność” biblijnego Daniela? Różne kierunki wyjaśniania orędzia Księgi Daniela
The subject of this article is the issue of the historicity of the figure of Daniel, who is the main character of the biblical book bearing his name. The question of whether Daniel is a historical or just a literary figure is important because it influences the exegesis of the text of the Book of Daniel. First, the author will indicate the reasons for questioning the historicity of Daniel, and then he will present different approaches to interpreting the content of the Book of Daniel.
