Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDFopenLa gestione del dolore rappresenta un aspetto critico nell'ambito sanitario, essenziale non solo per migliorare la qualità della vita dei pazienti ma anche per prevenire una serie di complicazioni fisiche ed emotive. Un'indagine regionale condotta in Friuli Venezia Giulia ha messo in luce una conoscenza subottimale e una non uniformità nella gestione del dolore tra i professionisti sanitari, evidenziando la necessità di interventi formativi mirati.
L'obiettivo principale di questo studio è valutare l'impatto di un intervento informativo sulla gestione del dolore tra i professionisti sanitari della regione, comprendendo medici, infermieri, ostetrici e fisioterapisti. Si prevede di distribuire materiale informativo costruito ad hoc basato sulle lacune evidenziate dalla rilevazione del 2023 e di valutare successivamente le conoscenze tramite un questionario somministrato in modalità online. Gli obiettivi secondari del studio includono l'analisi dell'utilizzo dello strumento informativo e della sua percezione di utilità tra i professionisti sanitari.
Il disegno dello studio prevede un'indagine di prevalenza pre e post intervento. Il questionario, basato su precedenti indagini e adattato per includere specifiche domande sull'intervento informativo, sarà somministrato due volte: prima dell'intervento informativo e dopo la sua implementazione, permettendo così di misurare le variazioni nelle conoscenze e nelle attitudini dei professionisti sanitari.
I dati saranno raccolti in forma anonima tramite la piattaforma EU-Survey e saranno gestiti e analizzati dal coordinamento della Rete Cure Sicure FVG. L'analisi statistica si avvarrà di tecniche descrittive e test non parametrici per valutare le differenze nelle risposte pre e post intervento. Valori di p<0,05 verranno considerati statisticamente significativi.
I risultati attesi dall'intervento informativo includono un miglioramento significativo delle conoscenze e competenze dei professionisti sanitari nella gestione del dolore, il che dovrebbe riflettersi in una migliore qualità delle cure erogate e una maggiore soddisfazione dei pazienti. La ricerca sottolinea l'importanza di interventi educativi continui e mirati nel settore sanitario per garantire un elevato standard di assistenza e aggiornamento professionale.Pain management is a critical aspect of healthcare, essential not only for improving patients' quality of life but also for preventing a range of physical and emotional complications. A regional survey conducted in Friuli Venezia Giulia highlighted suboptimal knowledge and inconsistencies in pain management among healthcare professionals, underscoring the need for targeted educational interventions.
The primary goal of this study is to assess the impact of an informational intervention on pain management among healthcare professionals in the region, including physicians, nurses, midwives, and physiotherapists. The plan is to distribute specially designed informational materials based on gaps identified in the 2023 survey and to subsequently evaluate knowledge through a questionnaire administered online. Secondary objectives of the study include analyzing the usage and perceived utility of the informational tool among healthcare professionals.
The study design involves a pre- and post-intervention prevalence survey. The questionnaire, based on previous surveys and adapted to include specific questions about the informational intervention, will be administered twice: before the informational intervention and after its implementation, thus measuring changes in the knowledge and attitudes of healthcare professionals.
Data will be collected anonymously via the EU-Survey platform and managed and analyzed by the Cure Sicure FVG Network coordination. Statistical analysis will employ descriptive techniques and non-parametric tests to assess differences in responses pre- and post-intervention. Values of p<0.05 will be considered statistically significant.
The expected results from the informational intervention include a significant improvement in the knowledge and skills of healthcare professionals regarding pain management, which should reflect in better quality of care provided and greater patient satisfaction. Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
