No full textIl saggio propone un percorso argomentativo orientato da un duplice obiettivo. Il primo è quello di mettere a fuoco il ruolo che Pitirim Sorokin ha avuto nel creare un ponte tra sociologia europea e sociologia statunitense. Il secondo è quello di strutturare una riflessione sulla “sociologia umanistica”, a partire da quanto Sorokin ha scritto sulla “quantofrenia” come malattia comune a diversi settori scientifico-disciplinari, fra cui anche la sociologia. Cosa è scientifico? Per i maniaci della quantificazione – ha scritto Sorokin − sono validi scientificamente solo i lavori che utilizzano delle misurazioni. Problematizzando tale orientamento, che ancora oggi continua a suscitare consensi, l’Autrice richiama l’attenzione sul ruolo che la “sociologia umanistica” ha svolto e potrebbe svolgere in futuro

Chinese loanwords in the novel Blue Lard by Vladimir Sorokin
No full textThe article discusses the Chinese loanwords that appear in the novel Blue Lard by Vladimir Sorokin. The novel contains an allegory of the Russian language of the future. Most of the neologisms created by Sorokin in Blue Lard come from foreign words, including an abundance of Chinese loanwords. The author of the article analyzes the Chinese loanwords from the point of view of phonetics and semantics, points out the mistakes in pronunciation in the novel, when Sorokin uses Chinese words or expressions. The analysis also focuses on the aesthetics of the word “Mei guo”, which by pronunciation in Chinese refers to the United States, and the word “Hei long jiang”– as one of the provinces in China, or the Amur River, fl owing through the territory of three countries. Sorokin purposely changes their interpretation at the end of the novel to “beautiful country” and “Black Dragon River” in order to create the normal atmosphere of a dystopian society devoid of geopolitical boundaries. Sorokin introduces the word “dan huang”, which in the novel refers to the pro-China Russians and resembles the Chinese slangs “banana-man” and “egg-man” from the position of transcultural distribution. Moreover, in the course of the research, the author provides a
comparison of Chinese loanwords with other foreign-language words used in the novel. By using Chinese loanwords as swear words, Sorokin literally commits linguistic violence. The fi nal conclusion is that Chinese loanwords can be seen as a product of the overlap of cultures, which appear in the Russian-language fi ction text. In addition, the Chinese loanwords with other Chinese elements give the novel a mystical oriental fl avor and an absurd tone

No full textStudiare e leggere Sorokin nel XXI secolo non può prescindere da un inquadramento del suo pensiero nella realtà sociale e storica da lui vissuta, perché le sue esperienze hanno influenzato sia le scelte personali sia gli aspetti di innovazione e di conservatorismo della sua personalità e dei suoi studi. L’evoluzione del suo pensiero ha avuto diverse fasi che corrispondono alle sue vicende personali e familiari, e questo è vero per sua stessa ammissione. Alla luce di ciò, non è pensabile avviare una riflessione a partire dalle idee di Sorokin senza delineare una sorta di profilo della sua biografia intellettuale. Per semplicità dividerò la nota biografica in due grandi momenti: le esperienze russe – che lo hanno drammaticamente segnato – corrispondenti al periodo che va dalla sua nascita al 1922 (periodo non brevissimo) che coincide anche con i due momenti della rivoluzione russa (anni 1905-1906 e dal 1917 in poi), e le esperienze americane che vanno dal 1923 alla morte (riguardano prevalentemente la vita professionale) che, nella loro parte finale, sono caratterizzate da quella che Sorokin stesso ha chiamato la “rivoluzione sessuale”. Queste vicende professionali lo hanno reso prima un sociologo di fama internazionale, poi condannato all’oblio e successivamente in parte riabilitato poco prima della sua morte

No full textThe paper, based on a wide range of historical and literature sources, covers the problem of the relationship between two outstanding researchers of the 20th century – the sociologist Pitirim Alexandrovich Sorokin (1889–1968) and the historian Yakov Mikhailovich Zakher (1893–1963) at the Faculty of Law of the Imperial St. Petersburg (and later Petrograd) University during their studies in 1911–1914. The study of the documents dating back to the time of their formation, the reports on the state and activities of the Imperial St. Petersburg University have allowed to reveal the previously unexplored facts of their biographies, as well as to identify areas of their common scientific interests. The conclusion has been made that P.A. Sorokin and Ya.M. Zakher combined both active work in a number of areas of the Faculty of Law and specialization with Professor N.N. Rozin, a symbolic figure in the field of criminology and theory of punishment. The study of the problem has demonstrated that the scientists had similar scientific and research interests. Despite the fact that after graduation from the university their paths diverged, the influence of student years can be traced in their subsequent life and work

Get PDF(in English) The present thesis titled "Untranslatable from Sorokin", is applying both theoretical and empirical approach. Particular attention is paid especially to translations from Russian to Czech language. This thesis focuses on common translation problems while working with books of Russian writer Vladimir Sorokin. The introduction to the theoretical part of the present study is devoted to general theoretical framework of translatological analysis of specific translation problems. In next step the most common difficulties are defined and systemized in several groups like author's neologism, foreign language lexicon, etc.. Empirical part of this thesis focuses on solving of particular translation problems and its analysis. These problems are also explained using examples from works of Vladimir Sorokin. The main goal of the thesis is partly to simplify understanding of Sorokin's books, but mainly to ease the work for translators. Various ways of dealing with difficultly translatable or completely untranslatable parts of Sorokin's books can then also help translators who translate another works from different authors
