Analisis buku teks kimia orgganik pada konsep amina berdasarkan kriteria keterhubungan representasi kimia
Penelitian bertujuan untuk menganalisis konten teks konsep amina berdasarkan struktur makro dan representasi kimia gambar. Analisis dilakukan terhadap buku teks kimia organik Fessenden (1986) dan buku teks kimia organik T.W. Graham Solomon (2014) menggunakan kriteria struktur makro Nelson Siregar yang didasarkan pada progresi dan elaborasi, dan kriteria keterhubungan representasi kimia Gkitzia yang terdiri dari C1: Jenis representasi, C2: Interpretasi surface feature, C3: Keterangan gambar, C4: Keterkaitan gambar dengan teks, C5: Derajat keterhubungan. Berdasarkan struktur makro, alur penyajian konten pada kedua buku teks kimia organik sebagian besar menggunakan alur induktif. Hasil analisis representasi gambar yang disajikan kedua buku teks, lebih banyak menampilkan gambar dengan representasi simbolik, persentase simbolik kedua buku yaitu 100% dan 99,04%. Makna yang terkandung dalam representasi dari kedua buku sebagian besar bersifat eksplisit dengan persentase masing-masing buku yaitu 71,01% dan 67,39%. Keterhubungan representasi dari kedua buku teks memiliki kriteria sepenuhnya terkait dan tidak terhubung dengan teks, persentase masing-masing buku yaitu 79,71% dan 68,47%. Conversion, continuity, and moral dilemmas among Christian Bidayuhs in Malaysian Borneo

Copyright @ 2012 by the American Anthropological Association.The nascent anthropology of Christianity highlights rupture as central to conversion. Yet thick ethnography of a Bidayuh village in Malaysian Borneo reveals how conversion can also foster modes of thinking and speaking about continuity between Christianity and “the old ways.” Through a study of the shifting moral and religious topography of a community in which three churches coexist alongside a few elderly animist practitioners, I argue that such discourses and practices of continuity highlight the pluralistic and sometimes contradictory nature of Christianization. A methodology for prospective operational design co-ordination
Engineering companies are continually faced with the challenge of how best to utilise their design team given some design project. Decisions regarding how to distribute the project workload amongst the members of the design team are the responsibility of a project manager who, in order to do this, often relies upon previous experience and/or the support of some planning tool. Furthermore, a project manager rarely has the opportunity to assess the capability of the design team against the current work load in order to determine what, if any, alterations couldbe made to the team to facilitate appropriate reductions in project time and cost.This paper proposes a mathematical-based methodology aimed at identifying shortfalls in design teams, which if remedied would result in a more efficient project in terms of time and cost. The methodology provides a means of identifying those skills within the design team,with respect to the outstanding work load, in which improvements would have the greatest influence on reducing time and cost. In addition, the methodology employs a genetic algorithm for the purpose of scheduling tasks to be undertaken by potential design teams. The methodology is applied to two practical case studies provided by engineering industry.The first case study involves the assessment of a multi-disciplined design team consisting of single-skilled engineers. In contrast, the second case study entails the assessment of multiskilled engineers within a multi-disciplined design team. As a result of applying the methodology to the case studies, potential improvement to the design teams are identified and, subsequently, evaluated by observing their effects
Can we predict community-wide effects of herbicides from toxicity tests on macrophyte species?
Macrophyte communities play an essential role in the way freshwater ecosystems function. It is thus of great concern to understand how environmental factors, especially anthropogenic ones, influence their composition and diversity. The aim of this study was to examine whether the effects of a herbicide mixture (50% atrazine, 35% isoproturon, 15% alachlor) on single macrophyte species can be used to predict its impact at a community level. In a first experiment we tested the sensitivity of six species (Azolla filiculoides, Ceratophyllum demersum, Elodea canadensis, Lemna minor, Myriophyllum spicatum and Vallisneria spiralis) grown separately and exposed to 0.6–600 gL−1 of the herbicide mixture. In a second experiment, conducted in microcosms, we tested the effects of herbicides on macrophyte assemblages composed of the same six species exposed to 0, 6 or 60 gL−1 of the herbicide mixture. Species grown separately exhibited growth inhibition at 60 and 600 gL−1. At 600 gL−1 the sensitivity differed significantly between species. V. spiralis was the most resistant species, C. demersum, M. spicatum and E. canadensis exhibited intermediate sensitivities, and A. filiculoides and L. minor were the most sensitive species. In microcosms, community biomass and Shannon evenness index were reduced after 8 weeks at 60 gL−1. Communities also exhibited changes in their composition: the relative and absolute abundance of C. demersum increased at 6 gL−1, while the relative abundance of V. spiralis increased at 60 gL−1. These results are in agreement with the individual responses of these species to the herbicides. It is therefore concluded that short-term effects of herbicides on simple macrophyte communities can be predicted from the sensitivity of individual species. However, further investigations are required to examine whether longer term effects can be predicted as well, especially in more complex communities

Discovery of a novel pathway for an SLE-related disease complex in the canine breed Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever
The dog is an excellent model to study inherited complex diseases, due to its unique population history and haplotype structure. In this thesis, dogs from the breed Nova Scotia duck tolling retriever (NSDTR) have been used as a model for defining the genetic factors controlling a systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)-related disorder called immune-mediated rheumatic disease (IMRD) and a steroid responsive meningitis-arteritis (SRMA).
IMRD is characterized by stiffness, mainly after resting, and pain from several joints of extremities and/or muscle pain. The majority of the affected dogs show anti-nuclear antibody (ANA)-positivity that can be divided either into a speckled (ANAS) or homogenous (ANAH) staining pattern. Dogs affected by SRMA display severe neck pain, fever and stiffness and an increased infiltration of immune cells in cerebrospinal fluid in the acute phase of disease. SRMA dogs show a negative ANA result.
We performed a candidate gene study to investigate if dog leukocyte antigen (DLA) class II is associated with the canine SLE-related disease. An increased risk for ANAS dogs was observed for a homozygous risk haplotype and a general homozygosity at DLA class II gives ANAH dogs an increased risk for developing disease.
Genome-wide association mapping identified additional susceptibility loci for the SLE-related disease on canine chromosomes (CFA) 3, 8, 11, 24 and 32. Further analysis revealed that most ANAS dogs homozygous for the DLA risk haplotype also have the genetic risk factors at CFA 11 and 32. Re-sequencing of the five associated regions was performed to identify specific genes and genetic variants involved in the disease.
Expression studies of the candidate genes for ANAS dogs revealed that the PTPN3 (CFA 11) gene is downregulated and that DDIT4L and BANK1 (CFA 32) is upregulated in dogs with the risk haplotype. The identified genes may be important in T-cells, B-cells and possibly macrophages.
This thesis describes the first successful mapping of a complex trait in the dog and shows that MHC class II together with two other identified genetic risk factors contribute to development of systemic autoimmune disease
Native vegetation of the southern forests : south-east highlands, Australian alps, south-west Slopes, and SE Corner bioregions
The Southern Forests study area covers an area of about six million hectares of south-eastern New South Wales, south of Oberon and Kiama and east of Albury and Boorowa (latitude 33° 02’–37 ° 06’ S; longitude 146° 56’ – 147° 06’ E). The total area of existing vegetation mapped was three million hectares (3 120 400 hectares) or about 50% of the study area. Terrestrial, wetland and estuarine vegetation of the Southern Forests region were classified into 206 vegetation groups and mapped at a scale between 1: 25 000 and 1: 100 000. The classification was based on a cluster analysis of detailed field surveys of vascular plants, as well as field knowledge in the absence of field survey data. The primary classification was based on 3740 vegetation samples with full floristics cover abundance data. Additional classifications of full floristics presence-absence and tree canopy data were carried out to guide mapping in areas with few full floristic samples. The mapping of extant vegetation was carried out by tagging vegetation polygons with vegetation codes, guided by expert knowledge, using field survey data classified into vegetation groups, remote sensing, and other environmental spatial data. The mapping of pre-1750 vegetation involved tagging of soils mapping with vegetation codes at 1: 100 000 scale, guided by spatial modelling of vegetation groups using generalised additive statistical models (GAMS), and expert knowledge. Profiles of each of the vegetation groups on the CD-ROM* provide key indicator species, descriptions, statistics and lists of informative plant species.
The 206 vegetation groups cover the full range of natural vegetation, including rainforests, moist eucalypt forests, dry shrub forests, grassy forests, mallee low forests, heathlands, shrublands, grasslands and wetlands. There are 138 groups of Eucalyptus forests or woodlands, 12 rainforest groups, and 46 non-forest groups. Of the 206 groups, 193 were classified and mapped in the study area. Thirteen vegetation groups were not mapped because of their small size and lack of samples, or because they fell outside the study area.
Updated regional extant and pre-1750 vegetation maps of southern New South Wales have been produced in 2005, based on those originally prepared in 2000 for the southern Regional Forest Agreement (RFA). Further validation and remapping of extant vegetation over 10% of the study area has subsequently improved the quality of the vegetation map, and removed some of the errors in the original version. The revised map provides a reasonable representation of native vegetation at a scale between 1: 25 000 and 1: 100 000 across the study area.
In 2005 native vegetation covers 50% of the study area. Environmental pressures on the remaining vegetation include clearing, habitat degradation from weeds and nutrification, severe droughts, changing fire regimes, and urbanisation. Grassy woodlands and forests, temperate grasslands, and coastal and riparian vegetation have been the most reduced in areal extent. Over 90% of the grassy woodlands and temperate grasslands have been lost. Conservation of the remaining vegetation in these formations is problematic because of the small, discontinuous, and degraded nature of the remaining patches of vegetation
