Robotic building: architecture in the age of automation Edition Detail./ Mollie Claypool, Manuel Jimenez Garcia, Gilles Retsin, Vicente Soler.

    No full text
In English.Includes bibliographical references. The use of robots in architecture is already commonplace: robots automate processes that were previously done manually. Complex shapes are created with the help of 3D printing while autonomous swarms of robots construct complex buildings. How does the use of robots affect the resulting structures; how does it affect the thinking of architects who work with robots? Robotic Building answers these questions with several practical examples. A final chapter explores the idea of architect as robot, the fully-automated home and similar concepts in which the robot merges with its environment and becomes part of our experience.Carpo, Mario -- Claypool, Mollie / Jimenez Garcia, Manuel / Retsin, Gilles / Soler, Vicente -- Claypool, Mollie / Jimenez Garcia, Manuel / Retsin, Gilles / Soler, Vicente -- Yuan, Philip -- Design, Matter / Clifford, Brandon / McGee, Wes / Stone, Quarra -- Menges, Achim / Dörstelmann, Moritz / Knippers, Jan / Auer, Thomas -- Claypool, Mollie / Jimenez Garcia, Manuel / Retsin, Gilles / Soler, Vicente -- Hansmeyer, Michael / Dillenburger, Benjamin -- Morel, Philippe -- Claypool, Mollie / Jimenez Garcia, Manuel / Retsin, Gilles / Soler, Vicente -- Jimenez Garcia, Manuel / Retsin, Gilles / Soler, Vicente -- Tan, Zoey / Tanskanen, Claudia / Li, Qianyi / Yin, Xiaolin -- Claypool, Mollie / Jimenez Garcia, Manuel / Retsin, Gilles / Soler, Vicente -- Tedbury, Ivo -- Yablonina, Maria / Menges, Achim -- Melenbrink, Nathan / Werfel, Justin -- Claypool, Mollie / Jimenez Garcia, Manuel / Retsin, Gilles / Soler, Vicente -- Rehm, M. FINANCING COMMUNITY FACILITIES: A CASE STUDY OF THE PARKS AND RECREATIONAL GENERAL OBLIGATION BOND MEASURE OF SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA

    No full text
This study of the City of San Jose’s Parks and Recreation General Obligation (GO) Bond Measure seeks to identify the politics-, management-, and planning-related lessons learned by the City as it developed its community facilities using the GO bonds proceeds. The study finds that these lessons include: be conservative in what you promise the residents; be prepared for changes in economic environment by identifying supplementary funding sources should the primary source not yield adequate funds; make sure that the jurisdiction is organizationally capable of handling the increased workload; and prepare detailed project plans prior to the bond issuance.Community Infrastructure and Services; Municipal Bonds; Public Finance

El yacimiento Neolítico del Arenal de la Virgen (Villena, Alicante): estudio de la colección de materiales de José María Soler

    No full text
In this paper, we present an updated revision of some archaeological materials (mainly pottery and ground stone tools) recovered by Jose Maria Soler in Arenal de la Virgen in the mid. 60’s of the XX century. This collection was deposited at the Archaeological Museum of Villena and has remained unpublished until now. Additionally, we will draw some comments regarding the lithic assemblage studied by Javier Fortea (1973), taking into account the current state of knowledge of Late Mesolithic and Early Neolithic lithic industries. In the light of recent fieldwork carried out and the revision of Jose Maria Soler materials collection, all data suggest that there is an occupational hiatus between the former Mesolithic phase (corresponding to the Notched and Denticulated Mesolithic), and the latter Early Neolithic phase.

    No full text
Jose Soler de la Fuente published in 1849 a collection of tales, Tradiciones granadinas. The work was intended to recreate numerous legends and traditions about the city of Granada. The theme relates the collection to Washington Irving's Tales of the Alhambra (1832), with the difference that, in this text, Soler de la Fuente tried to respond to Irving's work, which presented Spain as an oriental nation, influenced by Muslims. In Tradiciones granadinas Granada is portrayed as completely Christian, and the Islamic troops are portrayed only as enemies to be brought down, whose defeat fills the Christian hosts with feelings of honour and glory, signifying great pride for the imagined nation
