    No full text
The book brings together historical memories of the Xavier family, of which the author is a member, and includes everything from the heroic episode between members of the Xavier family and Lampião's gang, to a Xavier family tree and tributes to the members of this family, as well as photographic records of known members. The author rescues and preserves important memories of the family, reconstructing facts that, if told orally, could gradually be erased. The story told by Maria do Socorro Cardoso Xavier is also a way of preserving the memory of Ipueira, reporting on the social life and historical setting of the place, using family narrative.O livro reúne registros de memórias históricas da família Xavier, da qual a autora é membro, e traz desde o episódio heróico entre membros da família Xavier e o bando de Lampião, à uma árvore genealógica dos Xavier e homenagens aos membros dessa famílias, além de registros fotográficos dos membros conhecidos.

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Therefore, new tools are needed that allow us to better understand the great inter-individual variability to become seriously ill with this infection. The severity of COVID-19 has been associated with rare genetic variants in immune components that are involved in recognizing and signaling SARS-CoV-2. TLR7 is an innate immune receptor that recognizes ssRNA, such as the SARS-CoV-2 genome, and induces a rapid and powerful IFN response. In our first study, we have identified two new germline variants in the TLR7 gene that probably cause impaired function of the receptor and that could explain severe COVID-19 in patients who carry them. Severe forms of COVID-19 have been related to neutralizing autoantibodies against type I IFNs (NautoAbs), the phenocopy of inborn errors signaled by these IFNs (e.g. TLR7). In our second study, a 9.5% of the patients with COVID-19 admitted to intensive care at the HUB presented these NautoAbs. Mortality was similar both in the presence and absence of these autoantibodies. SARS-CoV-2 has the ability to interfere with the production of IFNs by the host, a mechanism that allows it to evade the immune response. This fact could affect the performance of tests such as the QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus (QFT-Plus). In our third study, one-third of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 had indeterminate results. This remarkably high prevalence casts doubt on the reliability of this test as a screening test for latent tuberculosis infection in these patients. A significantly higher proportion of indeterminate results was documented in patients hospitalized for COVID-19 who died. Finally, we conducted a randomized clinical trial that concluded that the combination of methylprednisolone and tacrolimus pulses, in addition to Standard of Care, did not significantly improve time to clinical stability or other secondary outcomes, compared to the Standard of Care only, in hospitalized patients with severe COVID-19
