TCC (graduação) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. Centro Sócio-Econômico. Economia.

This case study is intended to provide an overview of trade offsets and how these arrangements affect the domestic F/A-18 Strike Fighter program. The study defines trade offsets and interprets the existing Department of Defense (DOD) policy concerning these arrangements. Using the F/A-18 as a case study the researcher considered the impact of these offsets in a management analysis manner relative to the Program ManagerNANAhttp://archive.org/details/tradeoffsetsinfo109452284

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Interdiffusion of K and Na in Alkali Feldspars: Homogenization Experiment

    No full text
The rates of homogenization of coherent exsolution lamellaein cryptoperthites have been used to evaluate K-Na interdiffusion in alkali feldspars. An average interdiffusion coefficient (Ď) is between 2 and 4 x l0-17 cm2/sec for a synthetic cryptoperthite at 600°C in the composition range Or23-Or53, and between 6 and 12 x 10-16 cm2/sec for a natural cryptopertlite at 650°C in the composition range Or0-Or85. These values are for diffusion (801) at 1 atmosphere pressure. K-Na interdiffusion coefficients calculated from published K and Na self-diffusion coefficients and thermochemical solution data for alkali feldspars depend strongly on composition. The minimum Ď\u27s calculated are similar to the average Ď\u27s determined from the homogenization experiments. Finite-difference models of the homogenization experiments using the calculated,composition-dependent interdiffusion coefficients are in good agreement with our experimental results. Homogenization experiments appear to be successful in determining average interdiffusion coefficients which are consistent with diffusion data obtained using other techniques. The method is especially useful for determining Ď\u27s in the range of l0-16 to l0-19 cm2/sec

Characterization of optimized Na+ and Cl? liquid membranes for use with extracellular, self-referencing microelectrodes

Self-referencing with ion-selective microelectrodes (ISMs) is a useful approach for monitoring near-real-time ion flux near single cells and across epithelia. While ISMs for H+, Ca2+, and K+ have been optimized for use with self-referencing, ISMs for two other primary inorganic ions, Na+ and Cl-, have not. In this study, we have characterized ISMs based on three Na+ ionophores (I, VI, and X) and one Cl- ionophore to assess their suitability for use with self-referencing. ISMs constructed with Na+ ionophore VI have short response times (approximately 100 ms) but possess nearly an order of magnitude less selectivity for Na+ over K+ than ISMs constructed with Na+ ionophore X. The Na+ ionophore X mixture was enhanced to give it a shorter response time while not compromising its selectivity. A Cl(-)-selective microelectrode was constructed and characterized with superior anionic selectivity compared with previously reported Cl- ISMs used with self-referencing. This Cl(-)-selective microelectrode, however, has a relatively slow response time (approximately 3 s), thus requiring changes to the self-referencing protocol. Self-referencing with these ISMs will enable near-real-time ion flux measurements for Na+ and Cl-

Vestalenula cornelia Smith et al., 2006 Figures 31 B–C and 32. 2006 Vestalenula cornelia n. sp. — Smith et al.: 1570–1574, figs. 1–3. Material examined: Three females from SY3, one female (ECNU 20170414/HN42) dissected; one female from WN4, one female (ECNU 20170417/HN41) dissected. Dimension: Female, width 0.238 mm. LV, n = 2, length 0.433 –0.509 mm; height 0.217 –0.223 mm; RV n = 3, length 0.412 –0.487 mm, height 0.198 –0.204 mm. Distribution: This species has been reported from Japan (Smith et al. 2006) and Zhejiang (Ma & Yu 2018) in China. This species was found in Sanya and Wanning on Hainan Island. Remarks: The long keel on the RV indicates that it belongs to the danielopoli-group (Rossetti & Martens 1998), and it was identified as V. cornelia based on the carapace length/height ratio (smaller than 2.2) and the P-abd. The P-abd of specimens found on Hainan Island is longer than those found in Japan. The carapace is smaller than in previous reports (Smith et al. 2006).Published as part of Ma, Shunxin & Yu, Na, 2020, Freshwater ostracods (Crustacea) from Hainan Island, southern China, with description of a new species, pp. 201-243 in Zootaxa 4767 (2) on page 234, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4767.2.1, http://zenodo.org/record/377072

Vestalenula cornelia Smith et al., 2006 (Figure 25c,d) Vestalenula cornelia sp. nov. Smith et al., 2006: 1570; figs. 1–3. Material examined Three females (ECNU20150419/TT77-79) dissected. Dimensions (Female, n = 3) Length, 0.47–0.54 mm; height, 0.24–0.26 mm; width, 0.23 mm. Brief description In dorsal view, LV overlapping RV both anteriorly and posteriorly. Postero-ventral keel on RV equalling 19% of total length of carapace. In lateral view, posterior end wider than the anterior. A1 with one ventral-distal seta. Claw Gm on A2 long, slightly shorter than claw GM. P-abd without seta. Distribution This species was firstly reported from Japan (Smith et al. 2006). It is a new record for China. Remarks Only females were found in our samples, but males of V. cornelia have been reported from Japan (Smith et al. 2006). Our specimens are slightly longer than Japanese specimens. The keel on the RV of our specimens is located in a slightly more posterior position, and is not as smooth as the Japanese specimen.Published as part of Ma, Shunxin & Yu, Na, 2018, Freshwater ostracods (Crustacea) from Tiantong National Forest Park and Dongqian Lake, eastern China, with descriptions of two new species, pp. 1825-1868 in Journal of Natural History 52 (27 - 28) on page 1863, DOI: 10.1080/00222933.2018.1489085, http://zenodo.org/record/517515
