    Reminiscences on the Revolution

    No full text
Marc Slonim, Reminiscences on the revolution. In the extracts from his Memoirs (unfortunately unfinished) the critic Marc Slonim (1894-1976), who had been the youngest députée to the Constituent Assembly of 1917, tells of his initiation to the revolutionary ideas, then of his action as propagandist and educator in the workers' circles at the eve of the Revolution. He recalls the testimony of members of aristocracy about the discredit thrown by Rasputin on the Imperial family. Lastly, he describes his action as a member of the Petrograd committee of the S-R party, immediately after the February revolution, and the dissensions between the right and the left of the party on the subject of war. He stresses the efficiency of the Bolshevik slogans opposed to those of the S-R, and briefly evokes the figures of Kerenskij and Lenin, such as he had seen them in 1917.Marc Slonim, Souvenirs de la révolution. Reminiscences on the Revolution. (Mark Slonim at Sarah Lawrence College)

    No full text
(The article presents the story of Marc Slonim’s more than twenty-five-year affiliation with an American institution of higher learning uniquely devoted to progressive education. The author outlines the teacherly qualities that Slonim demonstrated well before his move to the U.S. prompted his career in higher education, as well as his reliance on communicative skills and emotional intelligence long before these topics became a focus of academic research. The problem of being aware of one’s pedagogical inclination is stated using the example of Slonim – an educator by nature who became aware of it only when he started teaching. The facts of Slonim’s biography indicate family educational traditions in Russia in the early XX century, while the archival documents cited in the paper are of textual and source study interest.

UKMARC AMC: Draft Rev 4.0: UK MARC format for archives and manuscripts control (UK MARC AMC)

    No full text
This draft is the first attempt to establish a UK MARC specifically for Archives and Manuscripts Control since the British Library indicated that it would countenance such extensions to the national UK MARC format. In order to keep consistency with the general UK MARC format, standard UK MARC subject fields are not included in this document, since they should be taken from the latest version of the UK MARC manual. {A note of them should perhaps be included in UK MARC AMC.} {NB Text in braces is intended to be explanatory material for readers of this draft}. Certain other fields have not been included that might occasionally be used in the cataloguing of archival materials but would generally only be used for such materials in organizations which were combining archive databases with library databases. This MARC version is intended for use with descriptions of archive or anuscript material that follow, or fit, the traditional style of cataloguing: we assume that these will normally relate to paper or parchment originals. It is not intended for use with descriptions of other kinds of material. For these, fields may be drawn from the appropriate UK MARC document. MARC versions for use with archives in special formats should be developed, in order to complete the full range of facilities available to archivists and curators
