    Avaliação da presença de guia de desoclusão lateral e protrusiva da mandíbula

    Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Ciências da Saúde, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Odontologia, Florianópolis, 2014.Neste estudo avaliou-se a presença de guias de lateralidade e protrusão em alunos do curso de Odontologia da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina. Participaram da pesquisa, 187 voluntários, com idade média de 22 anos, de ambos os sexos. Os mesmos foram submetidos a questionamentos sobre tratamento ortodôntico prévio e disfunção têmporo-mandibular, ausência e/ou agenesia dentária, bem como foram submetidos ao exame clínico por um operador calibrado para observar a presença ou ausência das guias citadas, tanto do lado direito como do lado esquerdo. Os indivíduos foram classificados como guia de desoclusão oclusal do tipo canina, em grupo ou em outro tipo de guia. Do lado direito, possuíam guia em canino 43,3%; guia em grupo apenas 4,8% e o restante possuíam um outro dente como guia (41,2%). Já do lado esquerdo, 51,8% apresentavam guia em canino; 0,5% em grupo e o restante tinham outro dente como guia (34,8%). Guia lateral canina bilateral foi presente em 40,1%. Em relação à presença de guia anterior, 60,4% dos participantes a possuíam e esta obteve uma forte associação com a prévia realização de tratamento ortodôntico (pAbstract : In this study evaluated the presence of lateral and protrusive guidance in Dentistry students, from Federal University of Santa Catarina. The research involved 187 volunteers with an average age of 22 years, both gender. They were questioned about temporomandibular dysfunction and previous orthodontic treatment, absence and / or dental agenesis, and also underwent a clinical examination by a calibrated operator to observe the presence or absence of guidance, at both sides. The subjects were classified by their guidance occlusal protection type as canine, group or other type of guide . At the right side, canine guidance acquired 43,3%; guide group only 4,8% and another tooth as a guidance 41,2%. At the left side were found 51,8% with canine guidance , 0,5% group and another type of guide obtained 34,8%. Bilateral canine guidance was present in 40,1%. Regarding the presence of anterior guidance, 60,4% of participants leading a strong association with the prior execution of orthodontic treatment (p< 0,006) . No other association was found with types of orthodontic treatment and temporomandibular disorders, except for the presence of in the left canine guidance and make come true orthodontic treatment, which obtained a weak association (p<0,038 %). In addition, there was association between female gender and existence of any condition of dysfunction. Thus, there was no correlation between any type of guide and problems for patient, as well as presence of many different guides types in most of people surveyed

    Incidence and characterization of Staphylococcus aureus in fishery products marketed in Galicia (Northwest Spain)

    11 páginas, 5 figguras, 2 tablasA total of 298 fishery products purchased from retail outlets in Galicia (NW Spain) between January 2008 and May 2009 were analyzed for the presence of Staphylococcus aureus. S. aureus was detected in a significant proportion of products (~ 25%). Incidence was highest in fresh (43%) and frozen products (30%), but it was high in all other categories: salted fish (27%), smoked fish (26%), ready-to-cook products (25%), non-frozen surimis (20%), fish roes (17%) and other ready-to-eat products (10%). A significant proportion of smoked fish, surimis, fish roes and other ready-to-eat products did not comply with legal limits in force. RAPD-PCR of 125 S. aureus isolated from fishery products was carried out using three primers (AP-7, ERIC-2 and S). Isolates displayed 33 fingerprint patterns. Each pattern was attributed to a single bacterial clone. Cluster analysis based on similarity values between RAPD fingerprints did not find relationship between any RAPD pattern and any product category. Isolates were also tested for se genes and susceptibility to a range of antibiotics (cephalothin, clindamycin, chloramphenicol, erythromycin, gentamicin, oxacillin, penicillin G, tetracycline, vancomycin, methicillin, ciprofloxacin and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole). Most isolates (88%) were found to be sea positive. Putative enterotoxigenic strains counts reached high risk levels in 17 products. No relationship was found between the presence of se genes and RAPD patterns. All isolates were resistant to penicillin, chloramphenicol and ciprofloxacin, and most to tetracycline (82.4%), but none was methicillin-resistant. A revision of pre-requisite programs leading to improve hygienic practices in handling and processing operations from fishing or farming to retail is recommended to ensure fishery products safety.This work was financially supported by the Xunta de Galicia (PGIDIT 07 TAL 014402PR).     Biofilm-forming ability and resistance to industrial disinfectants of staphylococcus aureus isolated from fishery products

    9 páginas, 3 tablas, 5 figurasAdhesion and biofilm-forming ability of twenty six S. aureus strains previously isolated from fishery products on stainless steel was assessed. All strains reached counts higher than 104 CFU/cm2 after 5 h at 25 °C. Most strains also showed a biofilm-forming ability higher than S. aureus ATCC 6538 – reference strain in bactericidal standard tests – by crystal violet staining. In addition, it seems that food-processing could have produced a selective pressure and strains with a high biofilm-forming ability were more likely found in highly handled and processed products. The efficacy of the industrial disinfectants benzalkonium chloride (BAC), sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) and peracetic acid (PAA) against biofilms and planktonic counterparts was also examined in terms of minimum biofilm eradication concentration (MBEC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC), respectively. Biofilms showed an antimicrobial resistance higher than planktonic cells in all cases. However, no correlation was found between MBEC and MBC, likely due to differences in biofilm extracellular matrix (composition, content and architecture) between strains. BAC resistance increased as biofilms aged. Generally, biofilm formation seemed to attenuate the effect of low temperatures on BAC resistance. PAA was found to be most effective against both biofilms and planktonic cells, followed by NaClO and BAC. Resistance did not follow the same order for each biocide, which remarks the need of using a wide collection of strains in standard tests of bactericidal activity to ensure a proper application of disinfectants. Doses recommended by manufacturers for BAC, PAA and NaClO to disinfect food-contact surfaces were lower than doses for complete biofilm removal (i.e. MBEC) under some environmental conditions common in the food industry, which questions bactericidal standard tests and promotes the search for new strategies for biofilm removal.This work was financially supported by Xunta de Galicia (PGIDIT 07 TAL 014402PR).     Biribellus isabelae, sp. nov. (Figs 1–5) Description. Female. Integument mostly yellowish brown, irregularly more yellowish on some areas; part of frons, clypeus and labrum reddish brown; scape dark reddish-brown basally, black on remaining dorsal surface and on part of sides, reddish-brown on remaining surface; pedicel reddish brown basally, black on remaining surface; antennomeres III–XI black; mandibles black on inner margin and apex, yellowish-brown on remaining dorsal surface and ventrally, gradually from reddish-brown to black laterally; metanepisternum yellowish brown on basal and distal quarter, black on remaining surface; elytra pale yellow on basal 2/3 (slightly darker on circum-scutellar region), black on distal third; tibiae yellowish-brown basally, black on remaining surface. Head. Frons narrow, concave, moderately coarsely, abundantly punctate except sparser punctures close to median groove; glabrous. Vertex coarsely, abundantly, punctate (punctures coarser than on frons, confluent close to lower eye lobes), except impunctate central area between antennal tubercles and upper eye lobes; area along median groove slightly, longitudinally tumid; with a few, minute yellowish-white setae emerging from some punctures between antennal tubercles and upper eye lobes. Area behind eyes coarsely, abundantly punctate (punctures shallower, moderately coarser, partially confluent behind lower eye lobes); with a few, minute yellowish-white setae behind lower eye lobes. Genae moderately finely, sparsely punctate; with a few short, erect yellowish-white setae toward ventral side. Antennal tubercles with punctures as on frons basally and frontally, smooth on remaining surface. Median groove distinct from clypeus to near prothoracic margin. Postclypeus wide, concave, coarsely, abundantly, partially confluently punctate on sides of wide central area, smooth centrally and laterally; with a few short yellowish-white setae on sides of wide central area. Labrum coplanar with anteclypeus on posterior half, inclined on anterior half; with moderately long, erect, sparse yellowish-white setae laterally and on anterocentral area. Mandibles coarsely, abundantly punctate dorsally and laterally; with long yellowish-white setae directed inward on basal 2/3 of inner black area, glabrous on remaining surface except a few short, erect yellowish-white setae on basal third. Gulamentum transversely striate on posterior third, slightly depressed, coarsely, abundantly, confluently punctate on anterior 2/3; with minute, sparse yellowish-white setae on depressed area. Distance between upper eye lobes 1.13 times length of scape; in frontal view, distance between lower eye lobes 1.08 times length of scape. Antennae 0.76 times elytral length, slightly surpassing midlength of elytra. Scape slightly, gradually widened toward apex; moderately coarsely punctate dorsally and laterally, nearly smooth ventrally. Pedicel moderately coarsely punctate except smooth distal area. Antennomeres III–VI coarsely punctate dorsally; antennomere III with elongate sensorial area at distal third (nearly undivided); antennomere IV with sensorial area divided by carina, with inferior area depressed from base to apex and superior area depressed on distal 2/3; remaining antennomeres with sensorial area from base to apex, divided by carina; dorsal surface of antennomeres VII–XI somewhat rugose-punctate, more so toward XI; distal antennomeres with a few minute, whitish setae distally. Antennal formula (ratio) based on length of antennomere III: scape = 0.55; pedicel = 0.24; IV = 0.60; V = 0.55; VI = 0.47; VII = 0.43; VIII = 0.38; IX = 0.34; X = 0.30; XI = 0.40. Thorax. Prothorax transverse, 1.7 times wider than long (including laterocentral projection of pronotum). Pronotum convex except narrow flattened sides, glabrous; with five slightly elevated gibbosities, two on each side (both from dorsal surface to near lateral margin, posterior one larger), another somewhat triangular on center of posterior half; coarsely, sparsely punctate (punctures sparser on gibbosities); anterolateral angles rounded, posterolateral angles moderately acute, projected sideward; lateral projection triangular, moderately small, placed slightly after middle; anterior margin slightly sinuous, widely rounded and projected forward centrally; posterior margin sinuous, with central area rounded and distinctly projected backward. Hypomeron shallowly, coarsely punctate on anterior half, nearly smooth on distal half. Prosternum tumid centrally, slightly rugose-punctate (more so laterally); with a few minute yellowish-white setae laterally. Prosternal process coarsely, abundantly, confluently punctate; in lateral view, forming distinct, rounded projection (Fig. 3); with short, decumbent, sparse yellowishwhite setae centrally, and long, erect yellowish-white setae toward apex. Mesoventrite slightly rugose-punctate. Mesanepisternum and mesepimeron shallowly, densely rugose-punctate; with short, sparse yellowish-white setae. Mesoventral process strongly, obliquely inclined toward its apex; apex with distinct tab-shaped projection on each side; with long, erect yellowish-white setae toward apex. Metanepisternum shallowly, coarsely, abundantly punctate; with short, moderately abundant yellowish-white setae on basal third, gradually shorter, sparser toward apex. Metaventrite moderately coarsely, abundantly punctate (punctures denser laterally close to mesocoxal cavities); metaventral process reaching about middle of mesocoxal cavities, somewhat elevated (Fig. 3), tumid on each side of central discrimen, which reaches apex of metaventral process (Fig. 5); with short, moderately abundant yellowish-white setae, except nearly glabrous area close to central discrimen. Scutellum glabrous, smooth except sparse punctures laterally; apex rounded. Elytra. Coarsely, abundantly punctate throughout, becoming confluently, slightly rugose laterally and apically except nearly smooth explanate outer margin; elytral carinae slightly marked; apex rounded with small projection at sutural angle. Legs. Femora coarsely, shallowly, sparsely punctate; with short, decumbent very sparse yellowish-white dorsally and laterally, longer, erect, more abundant ventrally on basal 2/3, especially on meso- and metafemora. Tibiae coarsely, abundantly, partially confluent punctate; with short, bristly, moderately abundant yellowish-white setae. Abdomen. Ventrites finely, sparsely punctate; ventrite V slightly inclined at distal half, with posteriorly margin concave centrally; with moderately short, sparse, almost decumbent yellowish-white setae. Dimensions (mm). Total length, 16.40; prothoracic length, 2.80; anterior prothoracic width, 3.95; posterior prothoracic width, 4.60; maximum prothoracic width, 4.75; humeral width, 6.45; elytral length, 12.50. Type material. Holotype female from PERU, Loreto: Picuroyacu (Rio Amazonas; 3°37’S / 73°15’W), 11.V.2010, J.J.R. Hernandez col. (MUSM, former JJRH). Etymology. The new species is named to honor Isabel Hernandez, mother of the second author. Remarks. The general appearance of Biribellus isabelae sp. nov. is much similar to that of B. huedepohli (Galileo, 1987), but differs by the metasternal process distinctly wider, longitudinally sulcate by the central discrimen (Fig. 5), and not distinctly elevate when viewed sideways (Fig. 3).
