Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Taktisk urbanisme som verktøy for å skape gangvennlige byområder: En casestudie av Østre Gløshaugen
Get PDFFN anslår at over halvparten av verdens befolkning kommer til å bo i byer innen 2050 (FN-Sambandet, 2022). Samtidig står byer for 70% av verdens klimautslipp og 30% av disse kommer fra transportsektoren (Engedal og Bothner, 2019). For å kutte utslippene må menneskene som bor i byene bli mindre avhengig av transport som er basert på klimagasser. Derfor skal vi i denne oppgaven se på en metode for å forbedre gangvennlighet.
Byens utforming bidrar til å bestemme om byen er gangvennlig eller ikke. Byene er ofte tilrettelagt for biler fremfor mennesker. Slike strukturer kan være utfordrende å endre. I denne oppgaven blir det sett på hvordan en transformasjon av byrommet kan bidra til å skape bedre gangvennlighet. Dette skal gjøres gjennom å undersøke følgende problemstilling Hvordan kan taktisk urbanisme bidra til å bedre gangvennlighet?
Oppgaven er en case-studie hvor det vil bli tatt utgangspunkt i et område som er tilrettelagt for fotgjengere gjennom en asfaltert sti, men hvor stien ender i en parkeringsplass. Ved å omgjøre to parkeringsplasser til forlengelsen av gangstien vil oppgaven se på om dette kan bidra til å bedre gangvennligheten. Hensikten er å bedre flyten, men også sikkerheten til fotgjengerne. Oppgaven er også interessert i å undersøke perspektivene til bilistene som ikke profiterer på at parkeringsplasser transformeres til gangsti.
For å forstå om transformasjonen av case-området som skal undersøkes i denne oppgaven bedrer gangvennligheten, ble det gjort undersøkelser både før og under intervensjonen. Datainnsamlingen som ble gjort før intervensjonen viste at det var en konflikt mellom fotgjengerne og de parkerte bilene. Dataen viste også at parkeringsplassen sjeldent var helt full. Derfor er det også ut ifra bilistenes perspektiv greit å transformere to parkeringsplasser til å bedre gangvennligheten. Likevel sa mange bilister at det var vanskelig å finne parkeringsplass. Noe som var i konflikt med den innhentede dataen.
Intervensjonen bidro til å endre fotgjengeres adferd og opplevelse av gangstien. Fotgjengerne uttrykte på ulike måter at de likte transformasjonen. Flere mente at dette bidro til en mer positiv opplevelse av å gå. Det kom også frem at mange syntes det var fint å bli engasjert i sitt nærområde gjennom en fysisk installasjon.According to the United Nations, over half of the world's population is projected to live in cities by 2050 (FN-Sambandet, 2022). At the same time, cities account for 70% of global carbon emissions, with 30% of these emissions coming from the transportation sector (Engedal og Bothner, 2019). To reduce emissions, urban dwellers need to become less dependent on transportation that relies on greenhouse gases. Therefore, this study aims to explore a method for promoting walkability. The design of cities plays a significant role in determining their walkability. Often, cities are designed with a focus on accommodating cars rather than people. Such structures can be challenging to change. In this study, we will examine how a transformation of urban spaces can contribute to improving walkability. This will be done by investigating the following research question: How can tactical urbanism contribute to enhancing walkability?
The study takes the form of a case study, focusing on an area that is pedestrian-friendly due to the presence of a paved path, which, however, terminates in a parking lot. By converting two parking spaces into an extension of the pedestrian path, the study will assess whether this intervention can improve walkability. The aim is to enhance the flow and safety for pedestrians. The study is also interested in exploring the perspectives of drivers who do not benefit from the transformation of parking spaces into pedestrian paths.
To understand whether the transformation of the case study area, as examined in this study, improves walkability, surveys were conducted both before and during the intervention. The pre-intervention data revealed a conflict between pedestrians and parked cars. The data also indicated that the parking lot was rarely completely full. Therefore, from the perspective of drivers, it was acceptable to transform two parking spaces to improve walkability. However, many drivers expressed difficulty in finding parking spaces, which contradicted the collected data.
The intervention led to a change in pedestrians' behaviour and their experience of the pedestrian path. Pedestrians expressed, in various ways, that they liked the transformation. Many felt that it contributed to a more positive walking experience. It also became evident that many appreciated the opportunity to engage with their local area through a physical installation
