Simultaneous Prediction of Actual and Average Values of Study Variable Using Stein-rule Estimators

    Get PDF
The simultaneous prediction of average and actual values of study variable in a linear regression model is considered in this paper. Generally, either of the ordinary least squares estimator or Stein-rule estimators are employed for the construction of predictors for the simultaneous prediction. A linear combination of ordinary least squares and Stein-rule predictors are utilized in this paper to construct an improved predictors. Their efficiency properties are derived using the small disturbance asymptotic theory and dominance conditions for the superiority of predictors over each other are analyzed

Seismic quality factors across a bottom simulating reflector in the Makran Accretionary Prism, Arabian Sea

The hydrate-bearing sediments above the bottom simulating reflector (BSR) are associated with low attenuation or high quality factor (Q), whereas underlying gas-bearing sediments exhibit high attenuation. Hence, estimation of Q can be important for qualifying whether a BSR is related to gas hydrates and free-gas. This property is also useful for identifying gas hydrates where detection of BSR is dubious. Here, we calculate the interval Q for three submarine sedimentary layers bounded by seafloor, BSR, one reflector above and another reflector below the BSR at three locations with moderate, strong and no BSR along a seismic line in the Makran accretionary prism, Arabian Sea for studying attenuation (Q−1) characteristics of sediments. Interval Q for hydrate-bearing sediments (layer B) above the BSR are estimated as 191 ± 11, 223 ± 12, and 117 ± 5, whereas interval Q for the underlying gas-bearing sediments (layer C) are calculated as 112 ± 7, 107 ± 8 and 124 ± 11 at moderate, strong and no BSR locations, respectively. The large variation in Q is observed at strong BSR. Thus Q can be used for ascertaining whether the observed BSR is due to gas hydrates, and for identifying gas hydrates at places where detection of BSR is rather doubtful. Interval Q of 98 ± 4, 108 ± 5, and 102 ± 5, respectively, at moderate, strong and no BSR locations for the layer immediately beneath the seafloor (layer A) show almost uniform attenuation

Regional Disparities in Non-Performing Assets of Self- Help Groups: Analysing The NRLM-Bank Linkage Programme in Regions Of Uttar Pradesh

    Get PDF
The Government of India started the NRLM bank linkage scheme to give financial assistance to the rural poor via Self Help Groups (SHGs). The study examines the non-performing assets (NPAs) of the bank linkage project of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) in Uttar Pradesh. The findings indicate that, in comparison to Western Uttar Pradesh, the NPA levels of the NRLM bank linkage scheme in Eastern Uttar Pradesh are lower. The study highlights that there are various reasons such as insufficient loan monitoring and appraisal, insufficient SHG member training, and delayed loan disbursements that are responsible for the higher NPA ratios.  Furthermore, the research indicates that Eastern Uttar Pradesh has a greater loan recovery rate in spite of somewhat poorer economic conditions and a higher frequency of natural disasters. Several policy implications for the NRLM bank linkage programme are also highlighted in the study. In addition to routinely providing training to SHG members to enhance their financial literacy and management abilities, the study makes the case for improved loan evaluation and monitoring in order to lower the risk of non-performing assets (NPAs)

PHARMACOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF ANTI-HYPERLIPIDAEMIC ACTIVITY OF VACHA CHURNA (ACORUS CALAMUS LINN.) AND MUSTA CHURNA (CYPERUS ROTUNDUS LINN.)

Vacha is identified botanically as Acorus calmus Linn belongs to the family Araceae. In Pharmacological study was carried out on Wistar strain albino rats. The activity of the drug was analyzed under the following groups: Group I - Water control, Group II - Cholesterol control, Group III - Vacha Churna and Group IV - Musta Churna. Parameters like ponderal changes, histopathological study of organs, and biochemical parameters mainly the lipid profile were studied. In present study animals administered with hyperlipidaemic diet have shown increase in body weight in comparison to normal rats, however the observed increase is found to be statistically non-significant. Both the test drugs non-significantly attenuated the body weight, among them the magnitude of decreased bodyweight is more in Vacha treated group. In present study administration of hyperlipidaemic diet did not affect the weight if heart, liver and kidney to significant extent in comparison to normal rats. In test drug treated groups also the weight of these organs not affected to significant extent. Administration of Vacha churna and Musta churna did not affect serum lipid parameters in comparison to cholesterol control rats except on serum HDL cholesterol in which moderate attenuation was observed. The test drugs contrary to the expectation did not significantly lower neither the cholesterol nor the triglyceride level in the serum

Analysing Research Trends in the Indian Hospitality and Tourism Sector: A Bibliometric Analysis for the Period 2000-21

The purpose of the study was to have an overview of the popular themes studied by Indian researchers from 2000 to 2021. The paper helped to identify the trends and development in the research area in the context of the Indian hospitality and tourism sector. The study selected 1821 research papers of Indian origin from the Scopus database published in 22 years (2000-2021). The selected publications were analysed using different bibliometric methods of analysis using biblioshiny and VOS viewer within the scope of several parameters. The entire period was divided into three distinct timeframes to study the research trends during that time frame. The maximum number of articles have been published in recent years, i.e., 2020, while the minimum number of article publications was observed in 2001. 1241 citations were received in 2019 and received only 110 citations were seen in 2005. "Worldwide Hospitality and Tourism Themes" and "International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management" have been reported to be the most productive journals. At the same time, 'Singh S.' is the most effective author with a maximum number of articles, while 'Jauhari V' has the most citations for the work. Sustainability and Conservation are the themes of common interest irrespective of timeframe, while the role of social media, covid 19, are recent trending topics for researchers. Despite contributing significantly to the hospitality and tourism literature in the Indian context, the study has a few limitations. The present study did not include publications other than articles like conference proceedings, book chapters, dissertations, etc. Selection of tools used and the keywords chosen for the study also limit the outcome. The findings of the analysis are helpful in better understanding the direction of research themes in the hotel and tourism sector. Evaluation of prominent authors and their work helps to focus on the trending themes in the sector among researchers. Additionally, it aids future researchers in determining the trends in the hospitality and tourism sector. To the best of the author’s knowledge, the sample used for this study was the most extensive group of publications published in India’s hospitality and tourism sector. By outlining the current research orientations and trends in hospitality and tourism, this study significantly contributes to the existing literature
