The authors regret that one of the author was missing on the authors list, namely Dr. J.A. Wilschut. Dr Wilschut is the third author, so the order should be: Jan-Willem Groena, Sissi Grosfeldb, Janneke A. Wilschuta,…. Furthermore, the authors regret that the second initial of the last author Dr. Margriet Mullender was misspelled. This should be G. instead of M. So it should be Margriet G. Mullendera. The authors would like to sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused

Le troisième terme de la comparaison : la Révolution néerlandaise entre l'américaine et la française
After recalling the origins of the Dutch Revolution of 1782-1787, the author emphasizes the influence of the American Revolution on the « patriots » ideas and its importance as a model. In the series of Atlantic revolutions, they mainly refer to the American one. Schulte Nordholt Jan Willem. Biodynamic timber sheet pile – vegetation retaining structure
Timber sheet pile walls are widely used for the protection of stream banks in different parts of the world. However, there is tendency of creating more sustainable types of stream banks not only because exploitable wood is more difficult to obtain, but also because of disturbance to the natural habitat of plants and animals due to hard embankments. In The Netherlands alone, about 2500 km of engineered timber sheet pile wall embankments exist, primarily made with tropical hardwood, apart from an even much larger amount of ´non-engineered´ small size timber based embankments. As an alternative, the authors propose to use a mixed timber sheet pile-vegetation system, where locally available timber can be applied in combination with natural vegetation. Unlike the usual bioengineering scheme, vegetation is not seen as an element, which could replace the timber sheet piles. Instead a new perspective is tested, where the vegetation is included as a ´structural´ element which will reduce or even counteract the consequences time dependent biological degradation of the timber sheet pile. By doing so, both long term durability as well as reliability of the stream bank are improved. We have developed a comprehensive design model, based on well-established sub- models from the literature on plant growth as well as timber service life. The timber sheet pile wall-vegetation system is illustrated in an example case study. Preliminary analysis including only the mechanical reinforcement of vegetation shows that the durability of timber sheet piles is enhanced. Thus, using vegetation in combination with highly degradable timber could possibly negate the need for using hardwood timber, or more generally, save resources that are currently used for these structures
Willem de Sitter: Einstein's friend and opponent
This is a thorough, very readable and excellently illustrated biography of Willem de Sitter (1872-1934), one of the most influential astronomers of his time, and also a co-author and correspondent of Einstein. Authored by a physicist and skilled writer, the book gives a beautiful and accessible description of the physics debated by Einstein and de Sitter, as well as the latter's alternative cosmological model, later known as the De Sitter Universe. But this is just part of a fascinating and varied life story involving numerous contributions to astronomy, as well as many places and personalities of early 20th century physics. The book will appeal to all those interested in astronomy and physics and their history
Clustering of susceptible individuals within households can drive measles outbreaks: an individual-based model exploration
When estimating important measures such as the herd immunity threshold, and the corresponding efforts required to eliminate measles, it is often assumed that susceptible individuals are uniformly distributed throughout populations. However, unvaccinated individuals may be clustered in a variety of ways, including by geographic location, by age, in schools, or in households. Here, we investigate to which extent different levels of within-household clustering of susceptible individuals may impact the risk and persistence of measles outbreaks. To this end, we apply an individual-based model, Stride, to a population of 600,000 individuals, using data from Flanders, Belgium. We construct a metric to estimate the level of within-household susceptibility clustering in the population. Furthermore, we compare realistic scenarios regarding the distribution of susceptible individuals within households in terms of their impact on epidemiological measures for outbreak risk and persistence. We find that higher levels of within-household clustering of susceptible individuals increase the risk, size and persistence of measles outbreaks. Ignoring within-household clustering thus leads to underestimations of required measles elimination and outbreak mitigation efforts.EK, LW and PB acknowledge support of the Antwerp Study Centre for Infectious Diseases (ASCID) at the University of Antwerp, and the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO) (research project G043815N and a postdoctoral fellowship 1234620N (LW)).
