Fernandes (Fernandes, E. H.: Modelling the Hydrodynamics of the Patos Lagoon, Brazil, Ph.D. thesis, University of Plymouth, 2001) aimed to calibrate the hydrodynamic model TELEMAC for the Patos Lagoon for the first time. The author executed SPM field measurements at 4 stations: Feitoria, Marambaia, and Praticagem (between 27-29 October, 1998), and at Porto Rei (between 05-06 November, 1998) and measurements were carried out at the surface, middle depth and bottom using horizontal bottle samplers. These consist of a simple PVC pipe closed at the ends by rubber stoppers and released by a messenger sent from the surface. Sub-samples were stored in plastic bottles for further filtration and determination of SPM content. Samples were filtered through CA filters of 45 μm pore size as in Baumgarten et al. (Baumgarten, M., Rocha, J., and Niencheski, L.: Manual de Análises em Oceanografia Química, FURG, Rio Grande, Brazil, 1996)

Tegument spinous, spines very small measuring 7,51µm–11,20µm (measured under confocal microscopy). Eye spot pigmentation diffuse dispersed in anterior region of body. Oral sucker subterminal, rounded, 75–175 (158), n= 16 by 100–230 (178), n= 16. Ventral sucker smaller than oral sucker, median, preequatorial and almost equatorial in smaller specimens, measuring 87–170 (128), n= 12 by 97–175 (133), n= 12. Sucker width ratio 1:0.6–0.8 (0.7), n= 12. Prepharynx short, 10–70 (35), n= 14 long. Pharynx 50–115 (81), n= 16 by 55–130 (85), n= 16. Oesophagus long, 140–450 (316), n= 13 long, bifurcating at level of ventral sucker or just posterior. Caeca short, extending almost to testis, or reaching anterior margin. Testis elongated longitudinally, situated near posterior end of body, measuring 105–410 x 115–230 (251 x 162), n= 13. In one specimen testis is elongated transversally. Hermaphroditic sac arcuate close to ventral sucker, 140–450 x 60–145 (238 x 107), n= 14, containing internal seminal vesicle 60–340 x 30–150 (184 x 69), n= 9, prostatic region, muscular metraterm and long hermaphroditic duct. Genital pore large, between pharynx and ventral sucker or very close to it. External seminal vesicle at intestinal bifurcation or just posterior, measuring 60–215 x 30–115 (110 x 61), n= 13. Seminal receptacle elongate, seen in only one specimen 105 x 40. Ovary median, between intestinal bifurcation and testis, measuring 45–215 x 30–110 (111 x 70), n= 10. Florestan Fernandes revisited

From acculturation to formation: the role of immigration studies in the work of Florestan Fernandes

    No full text
Having received little attention from the interpreters of Florestan Fernandes’ work until recently, the author’s migratory studies,  although revisited by specialists in this field, have been the object of implicit or explicit accusations of blame for the poor development of the theme in sociology, and especially at Escola Sociológica Paulista, from  the 1940s onwards. This work aims to respond to this “sociology of abandonment” in the  interpretation of Fernandes’ work, showing, through a systematic interpretation, that the author’s supposed departure from migratory studies did not happen without the provisions of an accumulative movement, characteristic of the formative model that the author fought for.
