Sustainability of retail store processes: an analytic model for economic and environmental evaluation
This study proposes a model to evaluate the economic and environmental sustainability of retail stores. The model was developed under Microsoft Excel and reproduces the main retail store processes (i.e. product receiving, backroom storage, sales area management and return management) in quantitative terms. As input, the model takes several data about these processes; as output, it provides an evaluation of the total cost and CO2 emissions of the store. The application of the model to a real case, referring to a large-scale retail store of Italy, and the discussion of the key results obtained is presented for all the processes considered. The outcomes show that the most relevant environmental impact and the highest total cost are generated by the sales area management process. Conversely, the return management process contributes to the total cost to a limited extent. A sensitivity analysis was carried out to highlight the key aspect managers should focus on to improve the sustainability of the retail store. The results obtained provide useful guidelines for store managers to optimize the sustainability of their internal processes
Law Books and Professional Law Libraries in the Roman Inventories and Catalogues of the Early 17th Century
The essay examines the private libraries of a group of judges active in the main criminal courts of the Papal State during the 17th century. Among them is Prospero Farinacci, one of the period’s most famous penologists. Based on new unpublished sources from Roman Archives (post-mortem and sales inventories, letters, guides), this article will examine the patrimony of a homogeneous professional group (in terms of their careers and family ties) and highlight the history of the individual or family collections, the relationships between libraries and scientific and professional activities with particular attention to the coexistence of printed books and manuscripts, social practices of display and use of the library itself, also in relation to other forms of patronage and cultural investment, the symbolic and economic value of the collections, and the relationship between libraries, individual reputations and family strategies during the accumulation and transmission phases
CONVENTIONAL AND UNCONVENTIONAL ROUNDABOUTS: A REVIEW OF GEOMETRIC FEATURES AND CAPACITY MODELS
Road intersections play a key role in traffic management. Modern roundabouts require entering vehicles
to yield to the circulating flow, and have proven highly effective in granting high performance levels
to both new and redesigned intersections; therefore, their use has widely spread around the world over
the years. The choice of the correct shape, size and signage of a roundabout is essential to accomplish
the desired results in terms of performance and safety. In order to achieve these goals, designers have
moved away from conventional layouts such as single-lane and multilane roundabouts, conceiving
more and more unconventional solutions (spiral, turbo and two-geometry roundabouts). Alongside
this design evolution, research has been conducted on functional analysis of roundabouts: several
authors and authorities have developed capacity assessment models that are suitable for the analysis of
unconventional roundabouts, but nowadays no complete review of such models is available. The aim of
this paper is to collect descriptions of the main types of conventional and unconventional roundabouts,
with a focus on their geometric features and applicable capacity assessment models
Economic and environmental sustainability of a large-scale retail store
This study investigates the issue of sustainability evaluation in a large-scale retail store (RS), which carries out four main different processes, i.e. Receiving, Backroom storage, Sales area management and Reverse logistics. A computational model is developed under Microsoft ExcelTM to assess the costs and the CO2 emissions of the RS. The application of the model is presented for a reference process (i.e. the Receiving process), while for the remaining processes, we present and discuss only the main results obtained. We found that the highest environmental impact and total cost are due to the Sales area management process, while Reverse logistics contributes to the total cost to a limited extent. The results obtained can provide useful guidelines for RS managers when pondering the optimization of sustainability
In this paper, the author analyses the dialogue Lovers or Rivals. Some scholars argue in favour of Plato’s authorship, while others agree on its inauthenticity. The thesis of its inauthenticity will be defended without reappraising and developing the most prevalent hypothesis, namely that the dialogue was composed in the third century BCE as a pamphlet against the Peripatetic school. In fact, the author advances the hypothesis that the Lovers were written by a disciple of Plato in the fourth century BCE, and that the dialogue clearly attacks Isocrates and, in particular, his conception of philosophy described for example in his Antidosis. The author will argue that the dialogue possesses a protreptic intent and perhaps addresses some of those issues that were most considered by Plato himself: finding a proper definition of philosophy and encouraging philosophers to engage in politics
The article is a reflection starting from the epistle 89b of the emperor Julian, which is presented as an illuminating document for the reconstruction of the values of the Hellenic civilisation, based on a precise paideutic-religious programme, which takes the form of a kind of canon of praiseworthy and/or inadvisable author
The present work embodies an introduction to the thoughts on accountancy developed by Argentinian professor Carlos Luis García-Casella, who has proposed the development of a general accounting theory departing from the work of Richard Matterssich, going beyond the idea of restraining accounting knowledge to areas such as economy, management or financing. The author establishes a wide connection for Accountancy, allowing it to support the financial, managerial, economical, social and political accounting models, using qualitative and quantitative, monetary and non-monetary representations.O presente trabalho constitui uma introdução ao pensamento contabilístico do professor argentino Carlos Luís García-Casella, quem propus o desenvolvimento duma teoria geral da contabilidade a partir dos trabalhos de Richard Mattessich. Claude Debussy.
Throughout his career, Alfredo Casella (1883-1947) seemed to make a particular case of French master Claude Debussy. During his training period in France (1896-1915), Debussy was a major source of inspiration to the young composer seeking his own personal style. Back in Italy, Casella encouraged young composers to inspire themselves of European techniques, including those of Debussy, to modernize the Italian instrumental music. However, with the promotion of the Italian musical past, aiming the creation of a national art, Casella gradually adopted a different position, event diametrically opposed, regarding Debussy’s music. Then the French composer is not considered as a model anymore, nor even, a “dream for the future generations,” but rather, according to Casella, the author of a language entirely incompatible with “the profoundly Italian spirit.” We propose a critical, historical and aesthetical study of Casella’s works from 1902 to 1930. We shall try establishing a methodological link between the assertions and opinions in Casella’s writings and their application in his musical works, by the means of the argumentation developed by the musician

In this study about the role of Antiochian imperial women I aim at investigating the interrelationship between law and society and at analysing the way social changes lead to birth of new laws, in the period marked by a gradual replacement inside the Mediterranean world. Leafing through the numerous pages dedicated to Antiochene society in the 4th century by an author such as Libanius, who has always set himself up as a strenuous defender of the Hellenic tradition and champion of the ancient civic ideal, and who was influenced less than anyone else by the attraction of the new ideas of Christianity, a pattern emerges thanks to which we can understand the degree of consideration to which women being was held in Late Antiquity, coinciding with a new morality of the couple, which tended to make marriage a conjugal community
