Frank tried to be a proper Southern author and write about pickups and hound dogs, but trolls and magic kept creeping into his stories, so Frank is a fantasy author. Although hounds do make occasional appearances in his fiction. His Markhat series features a hard-boiled, wise-cracking detective in a world where magic works. He also has a Young Adult series called The Paths of Shadow, and has short stories published in numerous magazines

No full text"This is the first--and the only authorized--biography of Elbert Parr Tuttle (1897-1996), the judge who led the federal court with jurisdiction over most of the Deep South through the most tumultuous years of the civil rights revolution. By the time Tuttle became chief judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, he had already led an exceptional life. He had cofounded a prestigious law firm, earned a Purple Heart in the battle for Okinawa in World War II, and led Republican Party efforts in the early 1950s to establish a viable presence in the South. But it was the intersection of Tuttle's judicial career with the civil rights movement that thrust him onto history's stage. When Tuttle assumed the mantle of chief judge in 1960, six years had passed since Brown v. Board of Education had been decided but little had changed for black southerners. In landmark cases relating to voter registration, school desegregation, access to public transportation, and other basic civil liberties, Tuttle's determination to render justice and his swift, decisive rulings neutralized the delaying tactics of diehard segregationists--including voter registrars, school board members, and governors--who were determined to preserve Jim Crow laws throughout the South. Author Anne Emanuel maintains that without the support of the federal courts of the Fifth Circuit, the promise of Brown might have gone unrealized. Do Judô ao Gracie Jiu-jitsu: a influência do Judô Kodokan na idealização e no desenvolvimento do Jiu-jitsu Brasileiro

Curso de Graduação em Educação Física.Neste trabalho de revisão bibliográfica, procurou-se discutir as informações referentes às raízes e à idealização do Jiu-jitsu Brasileiro. Buscou-se dirimir as discordâncias existentes nos trabalhos relacionados a este tema, e discutir a origem da modalidade. A importância deste trabalho se destaca pela suspeita de que uma versão acima das outras possui maior propagação em nosso país. Com isso, é proposto neste estudo, a identificação da origem do Jiu-jitsu, a influência do Ju-Jutsu Japonês na idealização do Judô e as semelhanças entre o Judô e o Jiu-jitsu Brasileiro que os diferem da modalidade japonesa. Para tal busca-se a compreensão não somente dos fatos referentes à idealização do Jiu-jitsu Brasileiro, como também da influência do Judô criado por Jigoro Kano nesse processo. Foi feita uma revisão histórica das três artes marciais, bem como a identificação de suas características, divergentes e semelhantes entre si. A partir desta análise foi possível avaliar como alguns atributos desenvolvidos no Kodokan auxiliaram na idealização e desenvolvimento da arte marcial brasileira, ainda que não sejam observados os princípios e pressupostos filosóficos propostos por Kano. Além disso, foi possível discutir o efeito da esportivização sofrida pelo Judô após a Segunda Guerra Mundial, e como esse fato determinou algumas das diferenças que essa modalidade possui hoje quando comparada ao Jiu-jitsu Gracie. Finalizando, compreenderemos por este estudo as raízes das três artes marciais, e as diferenças em sua composição técnica, estratégica e filosófica

Recent developments in the field of morphogenesis, digital media, theories techniques and methods of digital design have contributed a new models of integration between structure, material and form in digital tectonics.
The objective of this paper is to propose and define tectonics as a model of morphogenetic process. The paper identifies and presents the manner in which theory and emerging concepts of morphogenesis as well as digital models of design are contributing to this new model. The paper first analyzes the historical evolution of tectonics as a concept and characterizes the emergence of theoretical framework reflected in concepts and terms related to morphogenesis.Oxman, R. The terms of reference were to poll a cohort of authors who had published on an open access basis and another cohort of authors who had published their work in conventional journals without making the article available on open access. The survey’s aims were to investigate the authors’ awareness of new open access possibilities, the ease of identification of and submission to open access outlets, their experiences of publishing their work in this way, their concerns about any implications open access publishing may have upon their careers, and the reasons why (or not) they chose to publish through an open access outlet

No full textNew Zealand writer Sabrina Malcolm’s 2017 novel Zeustian Logic is a contemporary school story about a family struggling to deal with grief. This text follows in a decades-long tradition of New Zealand YA literature employing Classical reception. The novel illustrates how Classical myth helps a contemporary New Zealand teenager (Tuttle) come to terms with his father’s death and his own feelings of helplessness, frustration and anger. This chapter examines the role of Classical reception in this novel, discussing how the author uses star mythology to underpin the depiction of the protagonist’s coming-of-age. More than that, Malcolm compares Tuttle’s feelings with ancient perceptions of anger and grief and skillfully casts Tuttle, in his quest for knowledge, as a modern-day Telemachus.
