alimentar, à qualidade e ao acesso aos alimentos, valorizam a sustentabilidade da cadeia
agroalimentar. Os técnicos e os decisores estão atentos às tendências para irem ao
encontro das exigências dos consumidores.
O projeto BIOMA tem, como um dos objetivos, promover a avaliação da sustentabilidade
das empresas (produção primária, indústria transformadora e logística), através do
desenvolvimento de uma solução digital: Plataforma siBIO. Inclui questões iniciais de
caracterização das empresas e questões direcionadas aos indicadores relevantes para os
quatro pilares da sustentabilidade. As respostas são ponderadas e são definidos
indicadores que permitem classificar a sustentabilidade das empresas em “Excelente”,
“Bom”, “Razoável” e “Problemático”.
O siBIO foi aplicado a quatro empresas demonstradoras, parceiras do projeto, para
validação em contexto real. As médias das classificações foram de “Bom” para a
produção primária e para a logística e de “Razoável” para a indústria transformadora. Na
produção primária, os indicadores associados às práticas agrícolas alcançaram os
melhores resultados. Os indicadores da qualidade do ar foram os mais problemáticos, quer
na produção primária, quer na indústria transformadora. Na logística, constatou-se a
necessidade de melhoria no indicador da energia.
Assim, o siBIO orienta as empresas na identificação dos pontos críticos e confere-lhes

No full textAs a part of a coordinated EEC project to validate suitable assays for chemically induced genomic mutations, numerical chromosomal aberrations and spindle effects were studied in human lymphocyte cultures exposed to cadmium chloride, chloral hydrate, colchicine, diazepam, econazole, hydroquinone, pyrimethamine, thiabendazole, thimerosal and vinblastine. Chromosome number analysis was carried out after treatment for 48 and 72 h; spindle effects, i.e., increases in the mitotic indices and c-mitoses, were analyzed in cultures treated 5 h before fixation. Dose-related numerical chromosomal aberrations are induced by colchicine and vinblastine, the only chemicals that also induce c-mitotic effects in a wide range of doses. Hyperdiploidy is induced by chloral hydrate, cadmium chloride and thimerosal without dose-effect relationship; chloral hydrate and thimerosal affect spindle functions while only a weak spindle effect is produced by cadmium chloride. Tetraploid and/or endoreduplicated cells are induced without dose-effect relationship by hydroquinone, thiabendazole and thimerosal, all of them able to produce c-mitotic effects. Diazepam and econazole induce only hypodiploidy; pyrimethamine does not induce numerical chromosomal aberrations

No full textSolid pseudopapillary neoplasm of the pancreas is a low-grade malignant tumor that predominantly affects young women in their third and fourth decade. Etiology and risk factors are unknown. Clinical symptoms are aspecific and most commonly due to mass effect. Diagnosis is made by computed tomography scan or magnetic resonance imaging and histological characterization is obtained by endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle biopsy. Microscopically, these lesions are composed by both solid and pseudopapillary structures with necrotic and hemorrhagic areas. Occasionally, the biological behavior is aggressive with tumor recurrence and distant metastasis. Usually, curative R0 surgical resection is the best option able to provide long term survival even in advanced disease. Unresectable disease is the main predictor of poor prognosis. Chemotherapy and radiotherapy regimens are not well standardized. However, they could be effective in reducing tumor size as neoadjuvant treatment or disease control in palliative setting. Although complete surgical resection provides a cure rate of > 95%, considering young age of the patients and morbidity associated to pancreatic surgery, further studies are needed to better investigate risk factors and responsiveness to hormones in order to allow early diagnosis and follow up strategies that could avoid unnecessary surgery in less aggressive disease

No full textIntroduction: Acute abdomen is any acute abdominal condition requiring a quick response. The incidence varies according to age and disease aetiology. The abdominal discomfort associated with extra-abdominal pathophysiology and thoracic conditions could mimic acute abdomen. In this case we report a rare case of a young patient with cardiac tamponade masquerading as acute abdomen. Presentation of case: A 25-years-old African man presented to the Emergency Department with abdominal pain. An EKG was performed, which revealed sinus tachycardia, with electrical alternans and borderline reduced voltage. At the time of the admission to our unit, he had a clinical worsening and a CT scan of abdomen was performed, which demonstrated hepatomegaly, abundant pericardial effusion and thin right pleural effusion at the lung bases. An echocardiogram confirmed a circumferential pericardial effusion with initial collapse of the right ventricular free wall. It was decided to immediately transport the patient to the Cardiosurgery Unit of another hospital to undergo pericardiocentesis. Discussion: Our experience with this case underlines the important point that patients with a large pericardial effusion may present with the clinical features of acute abdomen and peritonitis. Abdominal pain was the primary symptom that prompted this patient to seek medical attention. Conclusion: Acute abdomen is any acute abdominal condition requiring a rapid, often surgical, treatment. Cardiac tamponade is a medical emergency. The differential diagnosis could be kept in mind by any emergency physician, surgeon and anaesthesiologist, because an incorrect diagnosis and therefore an incorrect treatment or a delay in pericardial evacuation can be life-threatening
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
No full textThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
