Professional practices utilized by psychologists and performance enhancement specialists in their work with performing artists:

No full text
Performance psychology can be considered as an emerging aspect of research and professional practice, nationally and internationally, with traditional focus and application having been largely upon athletics, being referred to as sport psychology. This dissertation examined the reported professional practices in providing services to performing artists in such disciplines as music, theater, and dance. This investigation is relevant to sport and performance psychology since empirical documentation of how individuals provide service to performing artists has been underreported in professional literature. This survey research investigation was undertaken to more specifically understand the current professional practices and services being offered to performing artists, including in the following areas: (a) exploration of typical referrals and presenting issues; (b) details regarding assessment, psychoeducation, personal support, and performance enhancement programs; (c) methods of monitoring client progress; intervention and consultation approaches and potential pitfalls; (d) recommended areas of specialized training and knowledge for professionals; and (e) other related matters. An internet survey and follow-up telephone interview protocol were administered to a sample of psychologists and self designated performance enhancement coaches/specialists to assess details of their professional work with performing artists, to explore the formal and informal preparatory training they received for working with such populations, to gather recommendations for future professionals interested in assisting performing artists, and more. Survey results indicated a unique set of psychological and educational needs and specific context-based methods of assistance being offered to performing artists. Based on these results and related understandings, a set of guidelines for training and professional practice are offered for professionals working with performing artists. These guidelines include, but are not limited to: (1) areas of specialized knowledge, such as treatment of performance anxiety, and, general performance enhancement techniques to address creative block, audition and role preparation, under-employment and career development, self-esteem, and eating disorders; (2) areas of training and education including general psychology, performance consultation, mental skills training and more; and, (3) benchmarks for practice including professional treatment cautions, areas for referral and consultation, basic human qualities desired in treatment providers, and more.Psy.DIncludes bibliographical references (p.152-157)by Greta Lynne Kugle

“There’s No Place Like Home”: How 21st Century Ecopoetics Cope With Ever-Changing Notions of Home Amidst Environmental Disaster

No full text
There is a long history of literature that invokes nature through imagery, symbolism, and metaphor. This thesis examines the difference between traditional forms of nature writing and ecopoetics, which is that the latter must make an inherently political argument about how humans should interact with the environment. Through an analysis of four 21st century ecopoetic collections—Iep Jaltok by Kathy Jetnil-Kijiner, Postcolonial Love Poem by Natalie Diaz, Flare Stacks in Full Bloom by Katherine Hoerth, and Trophic Cascade by Camille T. Dungy— it is evident that the genre of ecopoetry is uniquely equipped, as a literary form, to cope with various kinds of environmental disaster. The findings highlight that recent ecopoetry utilizes familiar literary themes and a common shared language so that it can be used as a coping mechanism. These themes include, but are not limited to, tradition and history, religion, and family. This research demonstrates the utility of ecopoetry because as a genre it is able to take the personal and amplify it to the level of the universal. Ecopoetry\u27s overlap with other fields of scholarship—postcolonial studies, ecotheology, and ecofeminism—is productive for incorporating multiple perspectives and forms of knowledge into environmental discourse

Kenstituent power: an exploration of feminist constitutional change in Barbie

No full text
\ua9 The Author(s) 2024. Greta Gerwig’s Barbie explores the influence of childhood dream worlds and toys over adult life, and the singular importance of a toy which represents an empowered woman. But this story plays out against the backdrop of deep societal challenges. That the subject matter of the film is light does not detract from its cultural significance; it enhances its reach and thereby its influence. Constitutional change, property, dissent, inequality and revolution are not the B-plot of the film, they suffuse every scene and motivate its major characters. In this article we explore the significance of Barbie Land as a supposed embodiment of a feminist utopia and the extent to which Gerwig is confronting viewers with difficult questions about authority and just governance in the Real World

Energy metrics is the development of a whole new theoretical framework for the conception and measurement of energy and economic performances, energy efficiency and productivity improvements with important political economy implications consistent with the best use of all natural and economic resources. The purpose of this research is to present some vital energy indicators based on magnitude and scale of energy weakness, GDP per barrel that is an indicator of energy productivity and barrels per capita that is an indicator of energy efficiency. Energy metrics can support policy maker to monitor energy system of countries in order to design effective strategy and political economy focused to increase the competitive advantage of countries in modern economies.Energy metrics, Energy productivity, Energy efficiency, Energy systems

An artificial neural network approach for assigning rating judgements to Italian Small Firms

No full text
Based on new regulations of Basel II Accord in 2004, banks and financial nstitutions have now the possibility to develop internal rating systems with the aim of correctly udging financial health status of firms. This study analyses the situation of Italian small firms that are difficult to judge because their economic and financial data are often not available. The intend of this work is to propose a simulation framework to give a rating judgements to firms presenting poor financial information. The model assigns a rating judgement that is a simulated counterpart of that done by Bureau van Dijk-K Finance (BvD). Assigning rating score to small firms with problem of poor availability of financial data is really problematic. Nevertheless, in Italy the majority of firms are small and there is not a law that requires to firms to deposit balance-sheet in a detailed form. For this reason the model proposed in this work is a three-layer framework that allows us to assign ating judgements to small enterprises using simple balance-sheet data.rating judgements, artificial neural networks, feature selection

Monsters of the Upside Down, beware!Travis Langley (author of the acclaimed Batman and Psychology) returns with a group of expert contributors to explore these and other questions to shine a light on true human nature through the Netflix series and cultural phenomenon, Stranger Things. When do feelings of grief, guilt, depression, fear, and isolation tear us down, and how do we transform them into hope, inspiration, forgiveness, acceptance, and motivation to do what\u27s right? Growing up is hard enough without metaphors for the dangers that lurk in life\u27s shadows springing to life in the form of monsters, villains, conspiracies, and enemy soldiers. How do we navigate friendships to unite against bullying and its many forms? What happens to missing persons\u27 families or those once lost upon their return? Can games and fantasy help us connect with others and make sense of real life? Stranger Things Psychology: Life Upside Down descends into the dark side of adolescence to find the light on the other side of the ultimate coming-of-age story.Contributors: Travis Adams * Jenna Busch * Shelly Clevenger * Erin Currie * Victor Dandridge Jr. * William Blake Erickson * Andrea Frantz * Larisa A. Zooid morphology and molecular phylogeny of the graptolite Rhabdopleura annulata (Hemichordata, Pterobranchia) from Heron Island, Australia

No full text
Rhabdopleura Allman, 1869 is one of the longest surviving animal genera. The five-known species are the only living Graptolithina, a group well known from their diverse Paleozoic fossil record. Here we add information on the soft-bodied zooids and molecular phylogenetics of Rhabdopleura annulata Norman, 1921, which was previously only known from its tubes. Tubes and zooids were collected from Heron Island, Queensland, Australia. Zooids have a single pair of tentaculated arms. Dark pigment granules are found throughout the body, and particularly dense in the pair of arms and the anterior lip of the cephalic shield. Colonies grow encrusted in and on coral debris. The tubes are either creeping or erect, but no stolon has been found. Inside of the coral matrix lacunae, the tube cortex formed a parchment-like wallpaper. Phylogenetic analysis based on combined 18S+16S rRNA sequences placed R. annulata as sister to the remaining rhabdopleurids, albeit with weak support. The biogeographic range of R. annulata extends from Indonesia to Tasmania, and New Zealand. Its occurrence on Heron Island does not extend this range, but highlights that rhabdopleurids may be more common, and in shallower waters, than previously appreciated, permitting further studies that may shed light on graptolite paleobiology. The presentation of the authors' names and (or) special characters in the title of the pdf file of the accepted manuscript may differ slightly from what is displayed on the item page. Satyra Tomo Pikoko koryboje („Kročeto pilis")

Thomas Love Peacock\u27s novels are marked with the specific blend of wit, humour and satire. They belong to what J. B. Priestley calls "novels of talk", or "novels of opinion". It is not through the plot or even characters themselves but through the whimsical confrontation of opinions that the reader\u27s interest is sustained. As a novelist Peacock may be linked to Carlyle, Meredith, and Butler. The article deals with "The Crotchet Castle". The very title of the novel points to the whimsicality of the author\u27s intentions. The opinions voiced by the characters are arranged with such clever constructional subtlety that it is not always easy to say what the author is driving at. The conflict of opinions is centred round the juxtaposition of romantic transcendentalism, on the one hand, and utilitarianism, on the other. The author presents the exponents of either doctrine as sheer crotcheteers. So both transcendentalism and utilitarianism are satirized. But the sting of Peacock\u27s satire is somewhat softened. His aim is not so much castigation as slyness. The fanciful arrangement of sly witticisms plentifully coined in the novel betrays, on the author\u27s part, a good-natured smile of self-resignation. In this respect Peacock follows the tradition of Sterne. Good-natured hedonistic humour is at the core of the author\u27s stylistic evaluation.omo Lavo Pikoko romanuose susipina sąmojus, humoras ir satyra.

Predicting strategic change of public research institutions under unstable negative growth

No full text
The purpose of this paper is to forecast and analyse, by a demographic perspective, the organizational behaviour of public research labs. The research focuses on the biggest Italian public research body. Demographic models of growth, based on different human resource policies, show the uncertain and retrogressive evolutionary change of Italian public research bodies that would halve their research personnel over the forecast horizon. These results provide vital information to the public management about the weaknesses and environmental threats in order to support decisions for improving the strategic change and survival of public research institutions over time.Organizational Studies, Forecasting, Public Research Institutions, Internal Demography
