Dynamics of social trust and human capital in the learning process: The case of the Japan garment cluster in the period 1968-2005

    No full text
This paper examined how and the extent to which human capital and social trust are associated with the learning process of a manager in making operations decisions through experience. To this end, using a data set originally and purposively constructed by the author, I investigate the development and transformation of the garment industry cluster region of Kojima, Japan. The major findings through statistical estimations are as follows. (1) In the cluster development stage, the social trust of an enterprise and its manager’s experiences in firm operations could be regarded as forming a complimentary association. (2) In the stage following cluster development, however, a manager’s human capital as accumulated through schooling and personal experience becomes complimentary instead of social trust.Social trust, Human capital, Bayesian learning

Obestatin, acyl ghrelin, and des-acyl ghrelin responses to an oral glucose tolerance test in the restricting type of anorexia nervosa

Background: Obestatin is a recently identified peptide encoded by the same ghrelin gene. It has been reported that obestatin has anorexigenic and antigastroprokinetic activities as opposed toghrelin. We investigated simultaneously obestatin, acyl ghrelin, and des-acyl ghrelin in the restricting type of anorexia nervosa (AN-R) patients. Methods: Three hormonal responses to the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) were measured in 10 AN-R patients and 10 healthy women. Results: Plasma obestatin, acyl ghrelin, and des-acyl ghrelin levels were significantly higher in AN-R patients than in control subjects throughout the OGTT. All of the three hormones decreased after the OGTT in both groups. Conclusions: We found that AN-R patients exhibited increased plasma levels of obestatin, acyl ghirelin, and des-acyl ghrelin throughout the OGTT compared with control subjects. The hormonal differences between groups are statistically most significant in obestatin, suggesting obestatin may serve as a marker reflecting both acute and chronic changes of the nutritional state in AN-R patients

Sulfuriferula thiophila sp nov., a chemolithoautotrophic sulfur-oxidizing bacterium, and correction of the name Sulfuriferula plumbophilus Watanabe, Kojima and Fukui 2015 to Sulfuriferula plumbiphila corrig.

A novel sulfur-oxidizing bacterium designated strain mst6(T) was isolated from spring water of Masutomi hot spring in Japan. The cells were rod-shaped (1.2-4.0 x 0.5-0.7 mm) and Gram-stain-negative. The G+C content of genomic DNA was around 52.6 mol%. The isolate possessed summed feature 3 (C-16 : 1 omega 7c and/or C-16 : 1 omega 6c), C-16 : 0 and C-12 : 0 as major cellular fatty acids. Strain mst6(T) grew by inorganic carbon fixation and oxidation of inorganic sulfur compounds with oxygen as an electron acceptor. The isolate grew over a temperature range of 5-34 degrees C, a NaCl concentration range of 0-110 mM and a pH range of 4.6-8.1. Optimum growth occurred at 32 degrees C, in the absence of NaCl and at pH 5.9-6.2. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences indicated that strain mst6(T) belongs to the family Sulfuricellaceae in the class Betaproteobacteria. The closest cultured relative was Sulfuriferula multivorans TTNT with a 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity of 97.0 %. On the basis of the data obtained in this study, strain mst6(T) represents a novel species of the genus Sulfuriferula, for which the name Sulfuriferula thiophila sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is mst6(T) (=NBRC 111150(T) =DSM 101871(T)). In addition, we propose correcting the name Sulfuriferula plumbophilus Watanabe, Kojima and Fukui 2015 to Sulfuriferula plumbiphila corrig. based on Rule 12c, Rule 61 and Appendix 9 of the International Code of Nomenclature of Prokaryotes

Consideration about a tale of War named Taiheki and the author

    No full text
This paper examines the relationship between Taiheiki story (Taihei means peace) that is a tale of War In medieval times and the Ashikaga Shognate. There are three considerations about it. The first is about the author of Taiheiki named Kojima priest who was introduced in the diary of the lord Toin Kinsada in that time. Imagawa Ryoushun who was a relative of the Ashikaga farnily made cornments about the author of Taiheiki in his book “Nan Taiheiki\u22. And Kojima priest was introduced in Kouhukuji Temple chronicle. The second specified the term that Taiheiki was written by using chronological table. The third clanfied the reasons why the Ashikaga Shognate tried to decide Taiheiki story that was written by Kojima priest as the history of the Ashikaga Shognate and reorganaize it. The results of this study are as follows, (1) The author of Taiheiki story was Kojima priest as Toin Kinsada wrote in his diary. It had been thought that the priests of Rishu sect (one of the Buddihst groups) wrote Taiheiki. Kojima priest might get the information about Taiheiki from this priests group. (2) Taiheiki that was written by Kojima priest covered the term that was from the “Shouchu no hen\u22 that the Emperor Godaigo attempted to overthrow the Kamakura Shogunate to the time when the Ashikaga Shogunate got its power. (3) The Ashikaga Shogunate tried to adopt Taiheiki that was written by Kojima priest as the history of the Ashikaga Shougunate. Because Taiheiki included the process that the Ashikaga Shogunate came into power. It might be reorganized as the history of the Ashikaga Shougunate
