The Role of Smart city to Improve The Success of Surabaya City branding Based on Government’s Perspective

Promoting the city by adopting branding techniques is one way to create a competitive city. In some literature it is stated that smart city initiatives can be an effective strategy in determining the success of city branding. This study aims to identify the role of smart city strategy in supporting the success of Surabaya city branding, which is known for its transformation into a smart city in Indonesia. This research is a qualitative research using content analysis method. Data collection was carried out through interviews with the relevant government. Based on this research it was found that according to the government's perspective, the implementation of smart city has a role in supporting the successful implementation of city branding in Surabaya. Substantially, smart city innovation is input for the message that Surabaya wants to convey through city brand ing efforts. From the implementation side, smart city innovation plays a role in achieving the goals, objectives and functions of Surabaya city branding which are carried out with interrelated stakeholders. In this case, the success of Surabaya's city branding cannot be separated from the success of smart city implementation, which has been running relatively long in this city. This research provides a new perspective on the government's role in developing smart cities as an effective city branding strategy and how smart cities can act as city branding

Innovative Tourism Sustainability: Case Study of Three Thematic Villages in Semarang City

This study aims to identify supporting and inhibiting factors for the sustainability of thematic villages as one of the innovative tourism implementation programs in Semarang City. This study is qualitative. Data were collected through interviews with thematic village managers in Semarang City. This study was conducted in three thematic villages selected because of their categories as leading thematic villages with different products and representing various areas in Semarang City. Content analysis was used as an analysis technique in this study. The findings of this study indicate that several factors can support or inhibit the sustainability of thematic villages in Semarang City after the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of these supporting factors include the role of the community (i), informal networks (ii), Government assistance (iii), utilization of technology (iv), the ability to create new job opportunities (v), and product innovation/expansion (vi). In addition, several factors that can inhibit the sustainability of thematic villages include the number of visits (i), community initiation (ii), a sense of shared ownership (iii), involvement of related stakeholders (iv) and the younger generation (v), and management (vi). These results can be a reference for the Semarang City Government to develop sustainable thematic villages post-COVID-19 by considering the supporting and inhibiting factors successfully identified through this study

Bottom-Up Touristification in Yogyakarta after Pandemic Covid-19

This research was conducted to identify the bottom-up touristification phenomenon that occurred in the city of Yogyakarta  after the Covid-19 pandemic. This research is a qualitative research. Data was collected through a process of observation and secondary data survey. The analysis techniques used are spatial analysis and also qualitative descriptive. The results of this research show that the touristification phenomenon occurring in Yogyakarta can be identified through changes in function and environment both visually and non-visually as well as changes in mobility aspects. Changes in function and environment can be seen both visually from the development of spatial concentration and the spread of tourists, changing the function of the area into a tourist area, and also the increase in facilities for tourists. Changes in function and environment non-visually can be seen from the development and distribution of accommodation which increases community profits and encourages tourists to travel to places that were not originally tourist attractions. Changes in the mobility aspect can be seen from changes of roads function as part of attractions which can then encourage environmentally friendly habits in the community. In the end, this touristifcation phenomenon can indirectly help tourism activities to adapt after the Covid-19 pandemic. The government is expected to increase its support to ensure that this touristification phenomenon can run according to the carrying capacity and capacity of tourism in Yogyakarta city

Vulnerability Assesment of Tourism Village Communities in The Special Region of Yogyakarta during The Covid-19 Pandemic

This study aims to identify the vulnerabilities faced by tourist villages, especially the advanced tourist villages, during the Covid-19 pandemic. The research was conducted in five advanced tourist villages in different districts/municipalities in DIY. Basically, this study is a quantitative research. Data was collected through a questionnaire survey process among the village residents. The analysis technique used is descriptive statistics. The results of the study show that there are still several factors that remain vulnerable for the tourist villages' communities in DIY when facing Covid-19. These factors include financial conditions, the sustainability of tourism activities, the sustainability of social interactions, and the level of community adaptation. One way to reduce these vulnerabilities is through innovation. However, the vulnerabilities caused by Covid-19 are still greater compared to the efforts made by some other tourist villages. There are still several challenges faced by tourist villages for recovery, such as the lack of visitor enthusiasm, lack of innovation and attractiveness, lack of budget, and decreased visitor trust. In this regard, the preparedness and capacity of tourist village communities in facing disasters still need to be improved. Thus, efforts are still needed to prepare communities for possible future detrimental events and to enhance their capacity and resilience for recovery

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
