    No full text
This is a pre-copyedited, author-produced version of an article accepted for publication in Chemistry Letters following peer review. The version of record Yo Shimura, Shinji Tamura, Novel environmentally friendly inorganic orange pigments based on NaₓWO₃, Chemistry Letters, Volume 54, Issue 9, September 2025, upaf175, is available online at: https://doi.org/10.1093/chemle/upaf175.Lithium-doped NaWO₃ (Na₁−xLixWO₃, 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.20) was investigated as a novel environmentally friendly inorganic orange pigment. Li⁺ incorporation induced local structural distortions in WO₆ octahedra, modulating d–d transitions and bandgap absorption. The sample with x = 0.05 composition exhibited maximum red reflectance and vivid coloration due to minimized octahedral distortion. These results demonstrate that lattice-level control of symmetry offers a viable strategy to tune visible light absorption and color properties in lead- and cadmium-free pigment materials

At war with their bodies or at war with their minds? A glimpse into the lives and minds of female yo-yo dieters - the curtain has lifted in the UK

Yo-yo dieting is a common phenomenon yet little interdisciplinary research has been carried out on dieting, food and nutrition in the social context. This study investigated the effects of yo-yo dieting on social and psychological well-being using qualitative methods. Data were collected by conducting semi-structured interviews with women who yo-yo diet. A total of 9 participants, 20-51 years old, were recruited by purposive and snowball sampling techniques from the University of Roehampton, London, U.K., where the first author was a student at the time of the study. Thematic analysis derived four major themes: the physical and/or mental impact of yo-yo dieting, the similarity of reported symptoms with those associated with eating disorders, familial and sociocultural pressure for initiating diets and the struggle for control and/or identity. Furthermore, there appears to be a link between yo-yo dieting and interviewees’ references to depressive mood episodes. The implications of these findings for the risks of developing eating disorders are discussed

This work analyzes the fauna of Platero y yo and other texts by Juan Ramón Jiménez from the perspective of Animal Studies, a critical paradigm of interdisciplinary nature that has been scarcely explored within Hispanic philology. This paper examines the poet's animal world, taking into account current social issues and matters of utmost concern for animal rights and environmentalist sectors, such as the representation of animal abuse in Platero y yo and in other prose works by the author, the affectionate anthropomorphism of Platero, his role as a pet, Jiménez clear descriptions of animal behavior and his judgments on hunting, bullfighting, bird trapping and other practices that cause harm to animals. Lastly, the importance of Platero y yo for Spanish animal literature is emphasized, in connection with the development of protectionist and conservationist movements, highlighting the need to search for more works with animal rights content in the literary production of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Detecting Yo-Yo DoS attack in acontainer-based environment

Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks are an ever persistent treath to IT environ-ments and it occurs today at an ever-increasing rate from year to year. Asthe world develops and companies migrate their systems from private loc-ations to public clouds, cyber criminals continue to use their classic DoSmethods on cloud networks. Some clever cyber criminals also come upwith new ways of rendering services unavailable for the intended users byexploring vulnerabilities in novel technologies such as clouds are. Still, typ-ical attacks such as SYN floods and amplification attacks are the most popu-lar attack vectors. There have been a big number of research on these classicDoS approaches, but security firms that operate DoS mitigation solutionscontinue to observe new trends in the DoS environment. More novel trendsdiffers from the classic attacks by utilizing multiple attack vectors at thesame time, hoarding big botnets and low-and-slow attacks among other. Anovel DoS attack is the Yo-Yo attack which sends bursts of traffic in orderto exploit cloud provider’s auto-scaling functionalities. Auto-scaling is avery important line of defense against DoS attacks, but the Yo-Yo attack isspecialized at exploiting a mechanism that we first thought only as an ad-vantage that now could be a concern for cloud providers. The Yo-Yo attackis able to impact the victims web server with performance degradation aswell as economic loss. This research will try to contribute with a detectionmechanism against the Yo-Yo attack, as well as doing so in a container-based environment. This research has not been conducted earlier with acontainer-based environment as far as the author can tell, and it is highlyrelevant for the time being as more and more users are choosing contain-ers for their web services, due to their lightweight being. The hypothesisis that (a) the Yo-Yo attack will not be able to determine the scaling phaseor scaling policy due to rapid deployment of container instances or (b) thatthe Yo-Yo attack will induct rapid scaling of container instances and causefurther economic loss than previously

This paper focuses on the study by Juana de Vega, second generation of romanticism author, of two pieces of her work in the area of literature of the self, En honor de Mina (Memorias íntimas, 1805-1834) y Apuntes sobre la historia. For that purpose, links are established between both writings, with the egocentric spirit of philosophy and aesthetics of Romanticism. Likewise, both writings are analyzed from this literary genre, assigning En honor de Mina to autobiography, and Apuntes sobre la historia to memoirs.

    Koto Y Yo

At the same time an autobiography, experimental translation, prose poem, and travel journal, Koto Y Yo is a serial meditation upon the relationship between fathers and daughters. Set in Barcelona, this collection of interlinked, page-long pieces, is a structural and allusive referential translation of the canonical Spanish text Platero Y Yo, by Juan Ramon Jimenez. This translation method is a further development of experimental practices set out in Atkins' earlier 4* REF rated Atkins Collected Petrarch. The originality of the book is twofold. First, the production of an innovative hybrid text through the use of a source text develops translation methodologies and cross-genre writing to construct relationships between literary texts and relationships. The application of allusive translation methods, as expounded by bpNichol and Steve McCaffery, has, up to now, been applied to poetry. Koto Y Yo takes this method and transfers it to the prose fiction of Jiminez. Characters are shifted (a donkey becomes a baby) and the original Andalucian village setting is translated to a working-class neighbourhood of Barcelona. Jimenez’s stories are relocated according to the imperatives of the author-translator, with the emphasis being upon the translator as opposed to the source. The hybrid nature of the work, additionally, points to a new type of form which resists traditional forms of categorization and authorial authority. Second, the content of Koto Y Yo is original. It explores a virtually-unexplored (in English literature) aspect of human experience; that of the father-daughter relationship. Jimenez’s original relationship in Platero Y Yo is between a child and a donkey. This human-animal relationship is far more common in literature than the relationship between fathers and daughters. The translation method that I have used in Koto Y Yo is original. The subject matter is equally so: the father-daughter relationship is one of the major themes of many of my collections, and Koto Y Yo makes a significant contribution to this almost completely-unwritten subject in English writing. <br/

    No full text
Throughout Alejandra Pizarnik’s poetic work the presence of the ego transformed into poetic matter can be noticed. The ego is at the same time subject of the enunciation, subject matter of enunciation and addressee of it. Pizarnik’s poetry is not a monologue, it is a dialogue. Dialogue with oneself, but the ego is not a different one, it goes on being ego even outside of the own ego.In the author the poem is a permanent “display” of the ego in a state of being engrossed. Her poetry constructs the ego in an infinite play of the ego projecting itself towards the infinity of the ego. It is a multiple voice singing to itself. But it isalso silence that speaks, that “shows” but does not “demonstrate” because it is not its aim. Alejandra Pizarnik’s whole poetry is question: what/who am I? But the answer does not direct towards the where do I come from or where am I going to, but it installs itself in the present: The poem seems to be the answer.
