Negociando la (no) pertenencia en la «patria (imaginada)» desde la perspectiva transnacional de una mujer de color surasiática: estudio de caso sobre la novela French Lover, de Taslima Nasreen
“Border” beyond its geographical logic becomes a topic of discussion in the transnational studies from the late twentieth century which challenges the established notion of the nation-state. The rhetoric of border as Anzaldúa (1987) calls “borderlands” and “Nueva Conciencia Mestiza” allow transnational feminists to enter into the new discourse to re-think the terms such as nation, homeland and border in a transnational writing. Fundamentally using the transnational and feminist approach, the paper will look into the negotiation of un/belongingness of a South Asian, transnational brown woman between the “imagined homelands” through a fictional novel French Lover (2002) written by Taslima Nasreen. In this piece of study, the term “imagined homeland” is an experiment but at the same time, it explains the meaning of the space which this term tries to explain. These “imagined homelands” are not merely spatial homelands which could be a land of origin or land of residence. These homelands are metaphorically constructed on the ideology of the collective groups in a “borderless” and “post-national” world. The paper will critically examine the construction of different “imagined homelands” calling them, global feminist group and brown community in this case study, and the negotiation of a south Asian transnational brown woman between these "imagined homelands.”El concepto de «frontera», más allá de su sentido geográfico, se ha convertido en un tema de debate en los estudios transnacionales a partir de finales del siglo veinte.

Determining the transfer function of a reconstructive spectrometer using measurements at two wavelengths
The transfer function is the characteristic function of the dispersive element of a reconstructive spectrometer. It maps the transmitted spatial intensity profile to the incident spectral intensity profile of an input. Typically, a widely tunable and narrowband source is required to determine the transfer function across the entire operating wavelength range, which increases the developmental cost of these reconstructive spectrometers. In this Letter, we utilize the parabolic dispersion relation of a planar one-dimensional photonic crystal cavity, which acts as the dispersive element, to determine the entire transfer function of the spectrometer using measurements made at only two wavelengths. Using this approach, we demonstrate reliable reconstruction of input spectra in simulations, even in the presence of noise. The experimentally reconstructed spectra also follow the spectra measured using a commercial spectrometer.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository 'You share, we take care!' - Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.ImPhys/Esmaeil Zadeh grou
Postoperative nausea and vomiting prophylaxis: A comparative study of ondansetron, granisetron and granisetron and dexamethasone combination after modified radical mastectomy
Background: Post-operative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is commonly seen after modified radical mastectomy (MRM). In this randomized double-blind prospective study we compared the efficacy of ondansetron, granisetron and granisetron and dexamethasone combination for prevention of PONV following MRM in female patients. Materials and Methods: A total of 75 patients (20-60 years of age) undergoing elective MRM were randomly allocated to one of the three groups of 25 patients each. Group O received ondansetron 4 mg, Group G received granisetron 40 mcg/kg and group granisetron and dexamethasone (G + D) received granisetron 40 mcg/kg + dexamethasone 8 mg prior to induction. All episodes of PONV within 24 h after induction of anesthesia were recorded. Statistical Analysis: Statistical analysis was done using Kruskal-Wallis test (nonparametric ANOVA). Results: The incidence of complete response (no PONV, no rescue medication) was 96% with G+D, as compared with 86% with granisetron and 4% with ondansetron during 0-3h after surgery which was clinically significant (P < 0.05). Similarly clinically significant response was seen during 3-6, 6-9, 9-12 and 12-24 h of surgery. Conclusion: Granisetron and dexamethasone combination is more effective for prevention of PONV in comparison to individual ondansetron and granisetron in MRM

Making of a unique birth control vaccine against hCG with additional potential of therapy of advanced stage cancers and prevention of obesity and insulin resistance
Reviewed is the work which led to the development of a unique vaccine that prevents pregnancy in sexually active women without impairment of ovulation and block of their making normally their sex steroid hormones. Being given that hCG is not expressed by non-pregnant females, immunization with the vaccine is devoid of any crossreaction with any tissue of the body. It is totally reversible and women regained fertility on decline of antibodies. A recombinant vaccine has been developed which is highly immunogenic in mice. It is undergoing extensive toxicology under GLP conditions in rodents and a primate species, the marmosets, before resumption of clinical trials. Ectopic expression of hCG or its subunits takes place in a variety of cancers, particularly at advanced stage with adverse survival and poor prognosis. Anti-hCG antibodies exercise therapeutic action against such cancers as indicated by in vitro culture and in vivo studies in nude mice. Transgenic hCG β mice put on weight and manifest insulin resistance. Immunization of these mice with the recombinant hCG β-LTB vaccine prevents obesity and insulin resistance.Fil: Talwar, G. P.. Does strict employment protection discourage job creation? Evidence from Croatia
Employment protection legislation in Croatia is among the most strict in Europe. Firing is difficult and costly, and flexible forms of employment are limited. Is this apparent rigidity reflected-as one would expect based on standard economic theory-in low labor market dynamics? Is job creation low and hiring limited? Is the job security of insiders achieved at the cost of outsiders not being able to enter thelabor market? The author attempts to answer these questions by examining job flows. If the employment protection legislation is binding, then job and worker turnover should be low. He shows that this is indeed the case. Hiring is limited and the average job tenure is very long in Croatia. Job destruction is low, however job creation is still lower. The result is accumulation of unemployment, in large part due to new labor market entrants not being able to find a job. The high degree of job protection also seems to strengthen the bargaining position of insiders and results in relatively high wages. So, wages in Croatia are higher than among its competitors, even after adjusting for productivity. These high labor costs are likely to contribute to limited job creation in existing firms, but also are likely to discourage the entry of-and thus job creation in-new firms. The author presents evidence that firm growth has been indeed limited in Croatia, contributing to the low employment level. The author examines other potential causes of high unemployment in Croatia (the unemployment benefit system, labor taxation, the wage structure, and skill and spatial mismatches). He argues that they do not play a substantial part in accounting for poor labor market outcomes in Croatia. The author concludes that the stringent employment protection legislation is the key labor market institution behind low job creation and high unemployment. Based on this he recommends specific measures aimed at liberalizing the labor market to foster job creation and employment.Labor Management and Relations,Labor Policies,Labor Markets,Environmental Economics&Policies,Trade Finance and Investment,Labor Markets,Labor Management and Relations,Labor Standards,Banks&Banking Reform,Environmental Economics&Policies
